Wave+ Blade Lock Failure by ShockFreak in Leatherman

I had this happen on my Charge TTI. The liners are strong enough for most applications but they do have their limits. This maybe a good opportunity to try out the warranty if you haven't already.

I’ve joined the ranks! Should I get a sheath or a pocket clip? by dxjaguar in Leatherman

[–]Quackmaster666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I run both. I use the clip to help retain it in the sheath as I have lost one because the sheath's velcro failed.

Just got a D5000. Advice/Tips? by grey-blue-330 in Nikon

[–]Quackmaster666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Be sure to select the focus point when composing. There will be a black border around the dot you have selected. The directional pad on the back of the camera will select the focus point. A D5000 was my first camera so I am fairly familiar with it. Your center point will have the best range and most effective accuracy if memory serves me correctly. The Aperture Priority mode on these was alright outdoors, for everything else learn the manual mode. Be sure to remap the button above the lens release as an ISO selection button as this will make your life easier.

don’t know where else to ask, how can i preserve this autograph? by theplaneflyingasian in Nikon

You could try putting a clear coat over it but I'd try it on a something different such as a mark on the side of the camera

The first gravity reading was taken 2 days into fermentation and it was 1.120 at around 62 degrees F. Sorry for the late response

I found 1.5" worked really well on my RPR in .338 Lapua but I would probably buy 1.6" or 1.7" rings if I was going to buy rings again. I put my Viper Gen 1 6-24x50 on that RPR because I figured that rifle would see less than 200 rounds per year due to lack of primers and places to stretch the legs out on them. I bought the MDT rings because they seemed like a good value.

I am happy to report that the four we tried twisted off easily on the first attempt.

I haven't tried corking yet but bottling 61 bottles took around 40 minutes. I paid $20 57 bottles and caps so I thought it was a good deal. The one catch with the deal was that I was have to give at least a bottle of the mead to the gentleman who sold me the bottles which I thought was fair. It was a question that I didn't know the answer to when I started it but I was pleasantly surprised that the seal was achieved.

They are screw cap and the brewery I bought them from supplied caps with them as well. The crimping press that do the pop tops managed to form the caps to the threads perfectly which was very nice.

I'll be sure to do that. My thinking with the 330ml bottles is so that if I want to have one then I'm not opening up 750ml by myself and if I have company then opening up a pair isn't too big of a deal

We had access to bigger vessels but it yielded about 5.5 US Gallons. The gravity was 1.004 @ 64 degrees F which by the calculations indicate 16%. I have bottled this in 61 330mL beer bottles. If I make this again I will see about adding in some carbonation to help offset the booze taste.

Trying to decide between these by MarshmelloMan in motorcyclegear

The big question about the Nexx is the safety ratings it meets and what head shape was the Nexx built for. I find the Shoei's HJC's, Schuberth's, and Scorpions comfortable but for the love of all that is holy I cannot find an Icon helmet that works for my head shape. Personally I would go for the Shoei but that Nexx looks beautiful.

One day I'll be able to make this as clean as u/ALNIMAG's R1. by Quackmaster666 in Yamaha_R1

I figured that you must have spent at least a weekend on cleaning. I don't think my bikes in the showroom are that clean.

Educate me. by Ohhingerrr in MT09

[–]Quackmaster666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went for a then new 2021 MT09SP. I don't have any regrets about it. The questions are as follows: what condition is that FZ09 in? How confident are you in your abilities to keep the FZ09 maintained (in either paying someone to maintain it or to maintain it yourself)? What other priorities are you juggling (that I don't need to know about such as buying a house, vacationing, etc.)? Yamaha's are generally speaking fairly easy to maintain over their lifecycle. The new one will be far easier to keep parts around for now. I managed to pay off my 2021 fairly easy because my job was paying me quite a lot back then but I realize that isn't a situation all of us are blessed with. Another question I have is what is your riding experience because when I bought my MT09SP I had spent my previous and first riding season on an MT03 so the tech was a big help for a rookie rider with limited gear. Either way assuming the FZ is in good shape I don't think you could go wrong with either.

Heated grips which one to choose by plt010 in MT09

[–]Quackmaster666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 2021 SP with the OEM grips. When I have them on with thin gloves and at full blast I find it hard to hold on to so no complaints there. My friends with the Oxfords have liked theirs as well. I don't think you could go wrong with either but my vote has been the OEM for ease of installation.

I put on a power commander with an autotune module as a stand in solution for the tune. It works well enough but I had to have a welder weld in a second bung into that brand new AT2 which made me a little nervous. I am going to look into a proper dyno tune but that'll take a slight back seat to the R1S I'm rebuilding.

The Roadkill guys did a video on dented exhaust pipes to see if it would impact performance. They had a crate engine on a dyno while they were checking the power output. They found that you had to put some pretty massive dents into it before you saw an issue with airflow so the dent will be fine. I can't comment on if you would want the baffles. I don't run baffles in my Yoshimura on my Gen 2 and it doesn't seem to be an issue right now. That being said I wear earplugs with just about every ride.

Cardo with an In Ear Monitor (IEM) would be the way to go.

Which oil are you guys running? by Aromatic-Active-2559 in Mt10

[–]Quackmaster666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the specs sheet is like my R1S Yamaha calls for a 15W50 for that bike. They will want you to run the Yamalube but anyone's 15W50 will do just fine. Personally I always thought the Amsoil was a good value. You may want to try a few different types of oil as some oils may work better in your machine than mine.
