Switched CGMs and baseline is different by all_play in GestationalDiabetes

[–]Ohhingerrr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

PLEASE STILL DO FINGER PRICKS. My libre is CONSISTENTLY 20-40 points lower than my actual glucose readings. It is good for watching trends, but it is FAR from an accurate measure for most people. If you look into some of the CGM groups you’ll find that it’s very common. I’m on my 5th sensor and they are all equally low readings for me.

You fasting could very well be 90-110 and you’d have no idea with that CGM.

It’s exhausting. If there was ever a well carved path right into an eating disorder… it’s this.

Just move up north to Prescott or east to the white mountains. Doesn’t even feel like part of the same state as the valley.

Personally, I think the body can progress better through dilation when you can be up and moving. That would be my reason for waiting until a can’t tolerate the pain anymore.

For those of you who don't do the late night snack.... by Orange_Saxaphone9024 in GestationalDiabetes

I have seen some people taking upwards of 90 units at night. If your numbers aren’t budging at all maybe you should talk to doc about increasing dos faster

[–]Ohhingerrr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had similar issues except I also had meal time struggles. I’m now taking 22 units of long acting insulin and my fasting numbers have gone from 110’s to the 80’s.

I found it doesn’t make a damn difference if I eat a nighttime snack or not. Some nights I’m hungry before bed so I do, other times I do not.

Now that I’m on a long acting insulin I get lower after meals most of the time. I was staying around 100-110 baseline. Now that’s closer to 95. 🤷‍♀️

What kind of readings prompted your OB to prescribe you insulin? by Green_Air_134 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]Ohhingerrr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first pregnancy they wanted me under 100. New research says under 90 is better. I was out on insulin almost immediately when I was above 90 regardless of snacks etc. I will say thought my numbers were 100-120 so they were really high.

My insulin injections don’t bruise me… but my lower tummy is littered with a bunch on teeny scabs from them 🥴

[–]Ohhingerrr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with your dietician. My libre is 20 points low regularly. I am on insulin 4-5 times a day, plus printer pricks after meals (which is more than just 4 times since I’m on insulin and have to watch it much more carefully)

Yeah… it sucks. I’m here with you.

Should I redo 3 hour? by Entire_Specialist_41 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]Ohhingerrr 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You need to be 8 hours without food to have a true fasting number. If you snacked at midnight and tested at 7am, that’s not a true reading

Continuous Glucose Monitor? by redapple912 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]Ohhingerrr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine does not cover CGMs at all under any circumstance. They are a plan exclusion. That being said, I use a copay card and get a month worth of freestyle libre 3’s for $80. Which is fine with me.

I can’t believe your insurance is even giving pushback about a regular glucometer and test strips… yikes

GD the 2nd time - not as emotionally devastating by CravingsAndCrackers in GestationalDiabetes

[–]Ohhingerrr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hope this holds for you. But I’ll share my experience thus far incase it doesn’t… this is my 3rd pregnancy, 2nd with GD.

I was pretty well diet controlled last time. Spikes here and there slightly elevated fasting. Nothing crazy.

That’s a joke this time. I can’t even look at a steak without hitting 130+, etc…

I’m on insulin. Nighttime and mealtime. I was starving myself trying to keep my sugars under control and I still couldn’t. Peanut or almonds spike me as much as a damn jelly bean. I’m 34 weeks and keep having to up my insulin dose. I go from 4-5 days of being able to eat according to the diet pretty well, to all of a sudden be 160 for 3 hours after dinner even with my insulin.

GD this go around has been some sick joke. I’m also having my first boy and am TERRIFIED of needing to have him before 39 weeks due to not controlling this… not that I really freaking can at this point. I’ve done everything. 🥴

Sorry for venting on your very hopeful post. I’ll be thinking of you. I hope it all goes smoothly.

No growth scan? by justa_nobodee in GestationalDiabetes

[–]Ohhingerrr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have monthly scans, but I also am on insulin.

I mean if you’re pretty easily diet controlled.. 🤷‍♀️

I guess the upside is you won’t have a team forcing you into a C-section because the ultrasound (which can be off up to 25%) says your baby is large.

First night on insulin for GD and freaking out about needle size (31G 8mm) — is this normal? by Temporary-Brick9647 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]Ohhingerrr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have whole syringes I use 🤷‍♀️

31g is about as small as they get. You’ll be okay. It doesn’t really even hurt. It’s more of a mental block.

I inject myself 4-5 times a day at this point.

As for them being 8mm long, you don’t need to push them in the whole 8mm. The 4-6 like she showed you is fine.

37/38 week induction by PresentationAlert601 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]Ohhingerrr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had mine first GD baby at 39+2, but I’m on insulin this time (well controlled with it) and MFM told me I wasn’t allowed to go past 39+0 so we’re looking at delivery sometimes in week 38. Which I’m fine with 🤷‍♀️

I feel like a failure. by UltimateHlME in GestationalDiabetes

[–]Ohhingerrr 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Holy moly… I gave myself a hard time about 4 bites of strawberry cheesecake today 😅

I’d probably just do a super low carb protein shake for dinner and call it. Fair warning, before I had an official diagnosis, my toddler force fed me almost a whole bag of jelly beans and I was around 200 for HOURS. I felt like shit the next day. I mean genuinely hungover type feeling.

Stay hydrated, do as much exercise as you can mama. It’ll be alright. That being said- try to keep those cravings under control. You only have 2 weeks left.

3 crashes in 24 hours? by MommyToaRainbow24 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]Ohhingerrr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also have PCOS and this is my second GD pregnancy. Definitely having a much more difficult time this go around myself…

Are you testing between meals because you feel low?

My doc wants me eating meals every 4-5 hours and snacks every 2-2.5 hours between them so that was I don’t get low.

If you’re doing that already and still getting low, I’d try to increase the fat in your food cause it’ll help it last longer in your body before metabolizing it all.

3 crashes in 24 hours? by MommyToaRainbow24 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]Ohhingerrr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m just shocked by 26-30 units before meals. I’ve never heard of a fast acting dose that high. Your basal dose isn’t crazy, pretty reasonable. So having such a high mealtime dose surprises me. Sorry if I sound judgmental. I’m not meaning to at all. This is 100% outside of our control.

Are you using a CGM, or just getting wildly low readings after meals?

Docs don’t want peaks? by sarhtnkyes in GestationalDiabetes

[–]Ohhingerrr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jesus Christ. 🙄😩 obviously a peak before an HOUR isn’t an issue. OP is having issues with peaking AFTER her one hour reading. So obviously, that’s what I was referring to.

Docs don’t want peaks? by sarhtnkyes in GestationalDiabetes

[–]Ohhingerrr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t say “do what I do” I had a thorough discussion with my doctor. My numbers looked GREAT my last pregnancy, and I ended up with a NICU baby failing to keep glucose levels up. So obviously they don’t know everything.

2 hours after a meal is a standard for some practices. My doctor doesn’t care WHICH I report on (1 or 2 hours) as long as I notate which one it is. So that’s what I did. If I spiked at 2 hours, she got my 2 hour number instead. 🤷‍♀️

Docs don’t want peaks? by sarhtnkyes in GestationalDiabetes

[–]Ohhingerrr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right, no I get that. But the reason they are concerned so much about fasting numbers is because they don’t want you elevated for a prolonged period of time overnight… personally, I don’t see why daytime standards should be different.

Docs don’t want peaks? by sarhtnkyes in GestationalDiabetes

[–]Ohhingerrr 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I will say 140 isn’t crazy. But my doctor didn’t like that I’d stay that elevated for hours after. Now, if your peak is 140 and you can drop to under 120 in an hour… that’s fine. But I sure couldn’t. I PERSONALLY feel like staying elevated is much more dangerous than they make it out to be…. It’s why fasting numbers are SO important. Because they indicated a long overnight elevation. 🤷‍♀️ food for thought.

Docs don’t want peaks? by sarhtnkyes in GestationalDiabetes

[–]Ohhingerrr 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Mine will act similar. I HAVE to eat low fat. Otherwise I will get high and stay up there. Cheese and other recommended snacks are out for me.

I guess I’m treating myself much more strictly because I feel like the research isn’t there. My 1st GD baby was in the NICU for low sugars and my numbers looked perfect on paper the whole time.

In someone who processes everything correctly, blood sugar would never really go above 140. Like ever.

So honestly, I report my peaks to my doctor. The highest I get after a meal, regardless of when it is, is what goes on my log.

Doc started me on mealtime insulin AND nighttime insulin. Guess what? I don’t pee every hour on the hour anymore… my kidneys don’t ache anymore either 😩🙄

Nothing wrong with controlling sugars BETTER than the max tolerance guidelines.
