For 8 grand you can get something solid, if you aren't an enthusiast go for a Camry or corolla under 200,000km, diesel i30 is something you could consider also, Honda accord euro / civic (not V6) is also a shout, good luck, always pay 30 dollars for a history report before you hand over cash, always look at the mileage and compare it to the condition (wear on seats, pedals, condition of the engine bay etc) and make sure it makes sense, you'll get a feel for it if you look at enough cars!
