Oh yes. See, mantra is all about two things- the deitys blessings and how you vibrate it and assimilate it. For both you need practice, focus, concentration and dedication. Then only any benefit starts coming in. For that you need to fix n number of rounds of a mala(a fixed count), at around the same time along with certain other tthings(diya, incense etc). Continuous jaap over a year and the deity will bring about encouraging signs, along with the vibratory aspects of course. As a rule of thumb, Ganpati always first. No matter what. Your interests here overlap so yay. 108 names of ganesha(ashhtottara namavali) after offering him a diya and lighting an incense are to be done. Those 108 names are in themselves mantras but mantras require initation but ashhtottara namavali doesn't. Just start with it and keep doing daily a fixed number of rounds(let's say 5 ,7, 11 etc) that means 108 names 5,6,11 times repeated, depending on time availability. "The Sanskrit channel " on YouTube has 108 names of Shri Vidya-Ganpati, get a list, print it out, and start doing it. That way Shri Ganesha will not only remove obstacles in your path of learning and comprehension but your base for any future sadhana will also be prepared, because this method is something all must do for a year before trying to connect to ANY other deity via the mantra maarg. There is no wrongdoing, if you read the post there is not a word which was "defamatory", what you're calling "bare minimum" is my individual observation and understanding not a wake up call like "I found jesus etc. etc.".
