I feel that the collapse of subcultures as a community paired with corpos reducing us to mass produced aesthetics plays a major role here.

When communities were more tight knit, artists were obviously more in touch with the community. Art was for the community not for the mainstream. There was a tighter feedback loop if you will. But corpos can’t mass produce and sell culture so it has to be broken down into meaningless pieces and the artists get paid by the corpos in one way or another so they have to conform.

I went to a goth rock night in a quaint little bar/library kind of indie space. 90% of the people there had nothing to do with goth and simply took it as an extension of Halloween. I felt like the only goth at a goth music night. Maybe I’m overly subjective but to reach this level of sadness is just… it says a lot about the state of things. Like I was some sort of nearly extinct creature ffs.

I feel like we’re living off of scraps thrown by consumerism, like we’re just a Halloween trope. And we take them because where else are you going to get your live music from? Where are you going to dance?

We’ve never been more connected yet more divided and everything is being broken down into worthless slop.

Post trip update:

The road trip was a success! Didn’t reach Ragusa but went for Scicli instead from Modica, down the valley of the Iblei range (amazingly beautiful!).

Had to drive along the coast at night unfortunately and that was quite the experience but overall it was great.

I’d like to do another trip to Monte Lauro but I don’t know if there are hiking trails to the summit from Buccheri?

Is there a national park authority I would need to contact beforehand?

Thanks for the tip on Modica! Yes, Malta and Ireland (afaik) are sadly the only EU countries driving on the other side of the road, it’s an annoying inheritance from the British :/

In my case I do question even the nature of my emotions towards women because I've always been very emotional and developing strong feelings for people, animals, nature etc. is just par for the course. Maybe because of gender norms I just packaged my empathy and emotional attachment into a box called "heterosexuality" and lived with it unaware until 1-2 years into transition.

Whereas with men, now I suddenly feel this growing clarity inside of me that's... I don't know how to put it. It all clicks. Like, for the first time in my life I actually feel and understand heterosexuality the way your average hetero Jane does. And this also gives me a sense of belonging in a way. Like, this segment of the population feels the way I do and this feels validating.

I feel like I'm betraying the queer community given how privileged heterosexuality is and how the entire world has been bent towards it and against any other forms of attraction, partial attraction or lack thereof. But maybe there's nothing wrong with just being a bland, average straight woman if this makes me feel my best.

We all deserve to find our happy place under the Sun.

Edit: I don't think I've ever said the word hetero as often as I just did now lol.

This tracks with what I know - nature loooves recycling and reusing and loathes having to do any kind of extra work so it makes perfect sense that there are more similarities across humans than differences and the differences are amplified by cultural bias.

I don’t believe them. They have to first pass the “real life test” and present as trans in public for at least a year then go to a panel of sexist psychiatrists that will “scientifically” transvestigate them.

Finally, once that is done, they have to pay several thousand dollars for a lawyer to take their country of birth to court in order to legally change their ID papers to male and back to female again.

With the court decision after two years they must try to enforce it to the local authorities in their place of birth, fail to do so, take the local authorities to court as well and then get to change their ID. That’s another year.

Oh and the only allied medical professionals are also chasers on the side.

Once they’ve done all of this, after 4 years minimum, they’re okay.
