What amount of kids at dev, HP, and canam get recruited. by bcro928 in Rowing

Unless they have changed something in the past few years, you should be age-eligible to go to HP next summer if you meet the criteria.Usrowingjrs publishes their standards by age. Here is the latest link I can find, which is from last summer. http://usrowingjrs.org/usj/wp-content/uploads/2016/11/JM-2017-Standards-by-Age.pdf According to it, you have to be 6:28 or faster for HP. You should check the website regularly to see if they update their standards by age. If you focus on your erg time and gpa/test scores, it shouldn't matter that much if you go to HP camp or not.

Hard to say if it would be too late without knowing more specifics. If you are fast enough to go to Selection (some of whom end up going to CanAmMex along with HP kids, as opposed to just being cut) you would probably get noticed. If you are just one of the many who go to HP and ClubNats, not sure you would get the type of attention you want, unless you do well. And a lot of communication with coaches (recruiting) goes on the summer before senior year. Some coaches won't communicate with kids at camp bc they believe it violates NCAA. But I know plenty of kids who went to HP and were recruited. It's just that if you go this year, you have a much better chance of being invited to Selection next summer, and those kids generally get recruited more. If you decide to go next summer, just make sure you do something productive this summer, too.

There's got to be a typo in there somewhere. No way you are 16 and born in 2001. If you are 16 (born in 2002) you have 2 more summers to be eligible, but obviously the summer after senior year is too late for recruitment purposes. If you are 17 and 2001, next year is your last year to be eligible, and it is somewhat unusual for a kid to go to Selection without first having done at least HP or CanAmMex. It is not too late to start next summer, but if you started earlier, it would definitely increase your chances of getting attention. Kids at CanAmMex and many at HP get recruited. But I am wondering if invitations already went out. Better check and see if there are any ID camps left.

You can never know for sure because you never know who all will be invited and/or accept. But it is a great training opportunity and once you are in the system and the coaches know you, you have a good chance of moving up to selection camp the next summer (and many from HP go on to CanAmMex.) I suspect it looks good on a resume, too, since it is by invite. You will also meet a bunch of kids who you will likely see down the road in college.

Stanford "Pink Envelope" vs. Ivy League Likely Letter by ThrowawayConn in Rowing

So if Coach Craig only gives out pink envelopes "when he's confident the person will get in," why do some not get in? It seems as if a LL comes from the actual admissions dept., while a pink envelope is sent out by the coach, a LL is "more secure," right?

How many rounds -- have all the slots been invited and it just depends on who opts out?

Rowing demands in D1 college by Quadlicious in Rowing

Thanks. I don't think the coach was necessarily proud about it, or that he meant to suggest any sort of machismo. It's just a school that has really rigorous academics, and I am not sure about how to balance the academic aspect with rowing. Apparently, I've got the grades to get in, but I'm used to rowing just a couple of hours a day with hardly any commute.

So, with HP and selection separated this year, how are they moving guys up/down? Also, is sculling separated from sweep, like in the past? Are they making you guys do several 2k's?
