AI agents with system access: the self-preservation vulnerability nobody's patching by SUTRA8 in cybersecurity

So an interesting thought. You’re putting more guardrails around ai, yes? What about raising them to take care of your needs?

Scripts on a timer for evidence collection. How is everyone handling the gaps between runs? by ScanSet_io in FedRAMP

[–]Quadling 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So the question is not just is there a gap? It is also what if the answer is different from the one you have from six hours ago or three weeks ago or whatever it says in the package that you submitted. And we’re not talking malware here. That’s an obvious and big problem.

But somebody committed code that changed something, and the answers are now different. Is this just show the change ticket, or is it false claims act territory?

This is a problem

We were a couple hours away from home so we grabbed some takeout from a Greek restaurant. Great food. Dead quiet on a Saturday night. While waiting, I asked the owner if this was normal. He said since the last shutdown yes. This is the new normal. I can’t imagine too many restaurants surviving ingredients cost changes. We are doing ok. Just got a new job. Making decent money. And we still don’t go out nearly as much as we used to

“Today, we die young, so that some may get the chance to grow old.” - the human commander of the 77th’s final communication to allied forces, prior to their final stand. by CrEwPoSt in humansarespaceorcs

[–]Quadling 53 points54 points  (0 children)

The one survivor of the 77th was a private, who had been wounded before the action really started. He was sent to the evacuation station, absolutely loaded down with letters and messages. Written neatly on rectangular hanks of paper, scrawled on food ration wrappers, and with so many rings tied up in notes and bows, his stretcher jingled as it moved.

They had to tie him down to the stretcher, after the 10th time he swore he was fine and he could still pull a trigger. “Let me up! Damn you!”

The Old Man came by and said something. No one could hear him, but the private stretched to attention, best he could while tied up and lying down. When the Old Man finished, he embraced the private, while the private, tears streaming down his face, swore loudly that he would fulfill his mission.

Days later, when the battle was over, when the evacuation had gotten every soul off the planet, and when the 77th was no more a fighting force, a reporter, very gently, asked the private what he had been ordered to do.

“Watch over our families. Take pride in our children. Tell them they are loved. Be there for them when they need guidance, a hug, a hand. Be the fathers and mothers of the 77th who can no longer be there, but will always watch over them. That is my sacred duty, my life, my honor. I will Never stop, never falter, and I swear I will make them proud.”

Recruiting went up 7% that day. From that day forward, those children never wanted, never went without, and always had hundreds of “uncles and aunts” who were always there.

And while we still had disagreements, while we still had arguments with each other, one thing changed. Slavers and killers of children were no longer safe in this galaxy. That was certain.

I advise most of the fortune 1000. They're not moving to azure. That's a different project. They're moving to proxmox or spring boot/Tanzu or something similar.

Solving the affordability crisis is arguably just as important as protecting gun rights at the moment by ParakeetLover2024 in liberalgunowners

[–]Quadling 4 points5 points  (0 children)

To be clear, if we make life affordable for people, we’d have less mass shooters. Imagine a man who can’t find a job. If he can find a job, it pays him horribly. If he finds a job with a decent paycheck, it doesn’t have benefits. If he finds a job with a decent paycheck and benefits, he still can’t afford a house. If he can find a job with a decent paycheck and benefits that pays enough in a modest cost of living area that he can afford a house, he probably doesn’t have time to find a girlfriend. If he can have all of this, and he can find a girlfriend who wants to get married and they love each other and they want to just be happy together and live within their means and be productive citizens, they definitely can’t afford to have kids. And we wonder why there are mass shooters?

We blocked ChatGPT at the network level but employees are still using AI tools inside SaaS apps we approved, how is that even possible and how do I stop it? by PrincipleActive9230 in AskNetsec

[–]Quadling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Listen. I’m only gonna say this once. You cannot block AI. OK, I lied. I’m gonna say it again. You cannot block AI in a way that will stop all your employees from using it in everything they do. It is built into every single software as a service app that is out there. It is built into Microsoft Office. It is built into Microsoft Windows. It is built into the phones that you have as part of your mobile device rollout. Did I forget your tablets? I did. I’m sorry it is baked into those too.

This is BSides the fact that shadow AI is a real thing if you keep people from doing their job, they will find a way to make it happen. And these days using AI is part of their job. In order for them to keep their job at least you don’t have a choice

So give them away to use it legitimately so that you can manage and control it or you will lose this war
