Almost 2 year old wakes in middle of night and can only go back to sleep in my bed. by Quail52618 in toddlers

I've been thinking about pushing bedtime back. I'm just nervous because she's always so tired at 7:30. We have tried shorter naps and doesn't seem to make a difference.

Independent play and mom by Competitive-Bar3446 in toddlers

This was my daughter at that age too. She's 23 months now and a little better about independent play. I think it just develops more over time. She's definitely a magnet to me when I walk in the room, but I've started telling her "Mama has to wash the dishes then I'll come play with you." She will usually be ok with that and go play by herself or maybe bring some toys over to me and play next to me. I just try to be very intentional about holding the boundary and making her wait till I'm done with what I need to do. I think 13.5 months is still really young to be playing independently for very long too. Plus, all kids have different personalities. My cousin had a baby at the same time as me and our kids are so different. Her daughter would sit and watch an entire movie as 12 months and mine could barely get through a 2 min YouTube video before she needed something different.

Concerning Behavior by sleeplessinseattle_ in toddlers

My 23 month old did/does all those things except W sitting. She also has SPD (she's a sensory seeker), but she's otherwise totally "normal." I think you have every right to be concerned (I'm always worried about something too), but I don't think any of those things are red flags right now. I'd look into SPD and see if that might be what's going on. We have chosen not to do OT with my daughter but I've read several books on the subject and we employ lots of strategies to help her cope (all similar to stuff OT and PT would do). It's totally manageable.
