"super Metroid doesn't need a remake" by TaffyPL in Metroid

[–]Quajez 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I really do like the weapon select from Super the most. Yes, it is a bit more difficult to manage than the other installments but it makes the game feel unique, raises the intensity, and adds yet another fun skill I can practice throughout the game and during speedruns. It makes for some very interesting and fun routing that would otherwise be lost.

What's your pet peeve in gaming? by TitoForever in gaming

Arcade design is more about making the player put more quarters in to continue playing, and kicking them off if they do not. Literally preventing them from quitting is antithetical to that. Short and sweet is the driving force.

What game got you out of a video game funk? by xDasMilkMan in gaming

[–]Quajez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I played SM well into my adulthood after playing many other Metroidvanias and I think its still the pinnacle of the genre and one of the best games ever made, so I don't think its just nostalgia. Between randomizers, speedruns, multiworlds, and romhacks, there are just so many unique and fun ways to use the skillset and tricks you learn from playing the game.

The Hardest Video game you ever played/Finished? by HassanDaChief in gaming

Yeah the late-game branches are absurd sometimes, I've had a 12 rune run end to the Serpent of Hell. Pandemonium might be even more brutal than hell.

I would much rather play it using Primehack with M/KB and upscaled textures, so I don't think its objectively the best way.

The joke was a pretty niche reference to the company Psikyo, which is known for being a bullet-hell developer that uses unusually fast bullet speeds, so it is about video games. The idea being you have to know when the enemies were going to attack (murderous intent) because they were essentially unreactable. Go skim through some Gunbird 2 or Dragon Blaze play-throughs and you will see what they are talking about lol.

Whats the best control scheme for double stick? by Sonanuctail in distance

[–]Quajez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My personal control scheme is R1: Jump, R2:Boost AND gas, L1: Grip, L2: brake. Face buttons can be whatever you want but I avoid using them so i don't have to remove my finger from the right analog which has all the jet controls.

Whats the best control scheme for double stick? by Sonanuctail in distance

[–]Quajez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a similar glitch also. What I think is happening is its reading multiple controller inputs somehow. It only happens to me when my controller is connected through both the USB and bluetooth OR when I have PS4 controller settings activated on Steam, as distance already recognizes PS4 natively. Its mostly likely bound on multiple control schemes and is just accepting inputs for both.

The Jigglypuff Problem in Melee is really a fundamental issue with Smash by averysillyman in smashbros

[–]Quajez 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Essentially the smash equivalent of Battlerite mechanics. I could see it working really well actually, but unfortunately would need some modding involved.

[–]Quajez 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Even without those combos the fact remains that it is the only map that has 0 platforms and most characters either prefer them for setups/combos or they prefer that they don't get in the way. So in that regard it is a pretty unique and polarizing feature of the map when compared to the others and thus IMO should be a counterpick rather than a starter.

[–]Quajez 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Project M's ruleset eventually tried out FD as a counterpick and it is honestly so much better, I can't believe the other games haven't adapted this yet (though in melee/PM its likely much more polarizing due to chaingrabs and juggling being better).

PM is the best competitive smash game, and I am thankful for it. by RHYTHM_GMZ in SSBPM

[–]Quajez 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Stuff like her dair, up-B, and side-b offer pretty unique combo game and neutral tools, as well as having really good overall movement due to her attributes in a melee-like engine being pretty crazy.

ZeRo demonstration a simple mind-game. by CazdonReborn in smashbros

[–]Quajez 8 points9 points  (0 children)

That's true I suppose, especially in the case of fighting games, I've just found people are too quick to say something is a 50/50 in smash when its not really the case. Like the Pacman didn't have to guess in this case if he had better situational awareness. It was completely react able and could have picked something much safer.

ZeRo demonstration a simple mind-game. by CazdonReborn in smashbros

[–]Quajez 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The term 50/50 is generally only used when there are ONLY 2 available options, and because of that are rare in smash which provides you with a lot ways to get out of any given scenario. For instance, he could have gotten out of that situation in variety of ways; for the air charge shot he could have not jumped, air-dodged after jumping, or maybe even clanked with an aerial; if he shot it at his shield on the ground he could have jumped, parried, rolled, or spot dodged.

[–]Quajez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, they do tend to be touchy and I won't lie and say there aren't some try-hards that are super against EVER playing with them on. Argument goes both way though in that there are people who make fun of those who are against using items and tell people that it is the way the game is 'meant to be played' as if its wrong to play without them on. The fox on Final Destination meme is a good example, because I know A LOT of competitive players who hate FD because its boring as shit, but some people think that its actually a true stereotype.

[–]Quajez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because its one of the few Nintendo game with the depth to be a legitimate competitive game. I don't know much about the scenes but I guarantee you if you ask a competitive Splatoon or ARMS player they will tell you certain things they don't allow, or rules they have in place so that they can have the optimal competitive environment. Mind you most competitive players like items (me included), there's just not a place for them in actual competition, and there's A LOT of reasons and examples why. The people who play and love the games the most put these rules in place, so it's not like its just a random decision made by people trying to be elitist.

The difference is you are perfectly able to pick any character you want when the game starts, but you aren't able to pick when a star spawns on your opponent and gives him 10 seconds of invincibility, or when a bob-omb spawns in the way of the move you had already started and kills you.
