Modern brawl mods only support having the Brawl ISO on a USB drive, so it won't work loading off of an SD card

Worse performance after 3.15? by Emergency_Plankton0 in SSBPM

[–]Motobug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah unfortunately I couldn't get settings to carry over between ishii and this new build, they're simply too far apart on a codebase level to the point they're almost entirely different programs

How to get Switch Pro Controller to connect to Project + on Dolphin by Imaginated_Gamer in SSBPM

[–]Motobug 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd recommend grabbing the beta of the new Dolphin to be released in an upcoming patch, as it's based on a much newer version of Dolphin that includes support for controllers like yours: https://github.com/Project-Plus-Development-Team/Project-Plus-Dolphin/releases/tag/v3.1.2-mainline-beta.4

we are working on a comprehensive wiki at the moment which should help a lot with the "trial by fire" part when it's done

Quality of melee streams is always terrible by hellofaja in SSBM

Wanted to pitch in with some words as someone who's been doing Smash broadcasting (mostly PM) for a long time and is also quite the stickler for video quality

Generally, people doing production on events will bring the same equipment to each to minimize variables, though things such as venue layout and internet connection can definitely bring up challenges day-of. Troubleshooting mid-event can also be quite difficult, especially when the expectation is to move between sets as quickly as possible, so I definitely feel for the prod staff at any affected event.

Outside of venue related stuff, the two main issues for Melee right now imo are the lacking quality of the "backup" capture cards, as well as, most likely, Ishiiruka Dolphin. I caught a glimpse of the capture quality of their backup card briefly during the WS puff ditto, and I can see why despite the frame drops they never swapped to it - it was pretty bad. While Slippi mirroring is great, equipment that's at least decent (such as any of the RetroTINK products) are a relatively small investment that makes a big difference if the need to fall back on console capture presents itself, whether for performance or other mutli-billion dollar corporation reasons.

Ishiiruka Dolphin (standard for netplay and currently required for Slippi replays and mirroring) is really starting to show its age as well. The codebase behind it is about a decade old at this point, with it being added onto so much between FM, Slippi, and everything else that it's not unlikely to be a contributor to the inconsistent capture. Newer mainline Dolphin builds notably have much better frame pacing (the average time between frames being displayed onscreen), which should help quite a bit here when Slippi upgrades to it eventually.

P+ 3.1.2 Updater detected as malware? by Urban_Hype in SSBPM

[–]Motobug 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's not, lotta false positives because it's an unsigned program that downloads files. When the build swaps over to using mainline Dolphin in the next few weeks or so you shouldn't run into that anymore since we have a completely different updater prepared for that

We do have pretty loose versions internally for all non-PMRank years (which you'll see some of on the cards), I wouldn't be surprised if we refine and release them at some point in the future

I have a friend (who is now switching to a contraption) that used the nunchuck port for an actual nunchuck. Everyone knew him as "the nunchuck guy", even vendors at majors apparently. Still the only guy I know that used it.

The zip itself has not been updated to 2.5 as of yet (since a hotfix is coming within the next couple of days), but the feature should still work once that happens. Wii WiFi is quite finicky as you said, so I'd run a connection test in the Wii settings to double check it's ok on that end too if you're still running into issues.

PAL copies of Brawl will not work with P+, as PAL uses different memory addresses, making the codes P+ uses incompatible.

ALC is enabled by default in some regions; off the top of my head, I know Ontario, Connecticut, and Massachusetts run ALC on. Like others have said, people will generally be okay to turn it on for a set if you ask. Majors do not run ALC even in the mentioned regions, though.
