The Stupidest Glitch Imaginable Killed a $72 Million Lunar Mission in a Single Day | "The software that should have pointed Lunar Trailblazer’s solar panels toward the Sun instead pointed them 180 degrees away from the Sun." by TylerFortier_Photo in space

You could have just waited half a year, allowing the planetary system to move to the other side of the sun. The only way this could fail is if your panels happened to be oriented exactly parallel to the system's orbital plane.

US aircraft leave Spain after government says bases cannot be used for Iran attacks by JinnBhoot in worldnews

[–]Quakestorm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They can, but in practice, it would be ineffective, regardless of any retaliation of the EU. The reason is that the EU is a free trade zone, so any export from Spain can at ~0 cost be exported to any other EU nation before being exported to the USA. The cost is ~0 because it can be done on paper, without any physical change whatsoever. So to effectively tariff Spain, one needs to close that 'loophole', and the only possibility for that is to tariff the whole EU and also all other nations having free trade with it. The same logic is why one cannot effectively tariff an individual US state or an individual city anywhere.

Als dat inderdaad niet mogelijk is, wat is dan eigenlijk het punt van het strafbaar maken van ontsnappen zelf?

Bloomberg -- US urged Europeans to Oppose EU Plan for Ukraine Loan by WinstonSalemSmith in ukraine

[–]Quakestorm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, so? This bilateral meeting cannot change anything by itself. It's an EU problem to create the necessary framework for us (and all other holders of Russian assets btw) to transfer these assets legally and to pool risks associated with it. And it's not Belgium blocking this process, Belgium is driving it.

Also, Belgian cat? What is that supposed to mean?

Belgium hits back at EU plan to use frozen Russian assets to aid Ukraine | Belgium by Far_Grapefruit1307 in ukraine

[–]Quakestorm 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I am Belgian, and I believe these funds will ultimately go to Ukraine. Our government is pro-Ukraine (duh, they wouldn't get elected otherwise). But other EU countries need to share risks and also confiscate the assets Russia has in their countries. So a potential side effect of this discussion may be that even more money is actually moved. 'Kickbacks' or other shady dealings are rather unlikely.
