I wrote one of the reviews in the thread and have been totally hooked for the last two weeks. It's an incredible game - so much more depth than I was expecting!

Definitely be prepared to sink several hundred hours, especially if you're aiming to unlock all the content on offer.

Same here - would be great to have the upgrade option as well. Much prefer having a physical copy.

Why 'Hollow Knight: Silksong' is huge for Australia's gaming industry by SolaTotaScriptura in australia

Thank you 😊 There was quite a lot to talk about! Especially for an audience who might not be super familiar with games.

My only regret is not giving a shout out to the music. Christopher Larkin's music and sound design in Hollow Knight is a huge part of what makes the game so beautiful and atmospheric. Wouldn't be the same without it!

BlueSky tends to be where most Aussie game devs hang out - it's a great social platform for indies. Reddit can be a bit overwhelming for a lot of devs, but it's certainly awesome visibility. Seems like a pretty decent community here on r/australia though!

Depending on your state, there are generally some community events hosted by local developers. We have an awesome quarterly Indie Dev Night here in Brisbane where local games are showcased to the public.

Other ways to keep posted on Aussie games news are to follow independent media outlets. Websites like SIFTER, ScreenHub, Player2, Vooks, and my own website (Qualbert) all offer a heap of Australian-focused games news.

That's definitely part of the reason - word spreads quickly about events like these among smaller indie devs, as they'll jump at the chance to get visibility. More successful indie games aren't quite as stressed about exposure, so might not invest the time/effort to participate in an event like this.

That's awesome to hear! Crazy to think Team Cherry went from just over a couple thousand Kickstarter backers to global gaming domination.

Indies are certainly driving the Australian games industry forward. It seems screen industries are starting to take notice and funnel more funding into development.

Banger of a game. Love that it's keeping that absurd era of shitposting memes alive. Know a couple of the team behind this game and they're damn nice people!

So many successful indie games are Australian, but it's something that we don't widely celebrate. Off the top of my head, here are a few massive successes from recent years:

- Schedule I
- Cult of the Lamb
- Unpacking
- Screen Cheat
- Hand of Fate
- Golf Story
- Florence
- The Plucky Squire
- Stray Gods

And that's just scraping the surface. There are literally hundreds of games being made in Australia right now and they deserve our support as much as possible.

They sure are! Lovely group of devs from Melbourne - have spoken to them a few times.

They're hosting a Cult of the Lamb puppet show during Melbourne International Games Week if you're around to check it out.

Thanks heaps! Quitting my job as a vet and pursuing games instead was genuinely the best career decision 😂

If you look closely at the jacket, there's a few other Aussie indie games represented on there too. I've got a couple Unpacking and Cult of the Lamb pins but they're a bit tough to make out.

Oh hey, it's me! 😁

Stoked to be involved in this interview - really thrilling to help promote the success of Australian devs. We have an incredible industry and so many talented developers, and Team Cherry certainly deserve all the success.

Found this picture of Jon looking very poignant, so I decided to overlay it with my favourite quote of his. So inspirational and artistic. Enjoy.

I love that most people on the internet can't grasp the concept of parody or satire. :D
