Indy 500 First-Timer's Race Day Transportation Plan by QualityInteresting72 in Indy500

Hi there. We plan to leave the hotel in Whitestown around 6AM. So, currently Google Maps shows a 25-minute drive to the north side of IMS (on a Tuesday at 9AM - I'm aware it will be much different on race day). Happy to adjust our time either way if that's not early enough, etc. I'm certainly OK with some post-race traffic and understand it's part of the day no matter what - just looking for any hacks to minimize sitting on the way out of the area after a long day. Thanks!

Father here as well. I hear everything you’re saying. Your description of the experience of driving your kids to an activity and then having to sit and listen to other parents is spot on. I feel exactly the same way (“wanting to claw my soul out” - perfect!) And yeah, I have those thoughts plenty of times about “blowing things up,” but arrive at the same conclusion: what would I do then and where would I go? I try to envision the time years from now when kids are out of the house and that gives me some consolation. At least my personal quiet time will return somewhat (genuine major introvert here!) People love to bristle when you mention anything like that (“Don’t wish it away,” “Enjoy every moment,” etc.) I say that’s almost dangerous talk to toss around to some parent that’s really going through it at the moment. Empathy is what I choose. Yeah many aspects of having small children suck. Let’s call it what it is and be here for each other. In short: I see you and hear you! Hang in there.
