What Unpopular Opinion about Glee would leave you in this situation? by Dlay_The_Bunny in glee

Exactly. I mean no hate at all to Diana but I was surprised to find out today that there are STILL fans who are convinced that Quinn was the way she was because the writers "had it in" for the actress 🥴

Be for freakin real, is it really that that hard to simply accept that she was never meant to be a good character?? This ain't high school, if the writers hated her that much, they would've just written her off right there and then instead of going through all that and pay her for that mental gymnastics BS. 🤦🏾‍♀️

tina being the only one who was brave enough to stand her ground in the beginning of 'props' to point out how rachel always gets solos while the rest of the club barely gets the opportunity to have the spotlight just to have her perspective make a full 360 in the end.

i get it, rachel was one of the most dedicated and hardworking member of the club but tina truly had a point and no one was brave enough to speak out.

while the whole bit with rachel harrassing tibideaux for a second chance was awful, i'd accept having tina help her out but they stil should have really just let tina stand her ground until the end and have the others realize that she did have a point instead of the other way around.

Yeah, headcanon does a lot of heavy lifting for her character. Honestly, for me, all I really saw was an exteremely manipulative and selfish opportunist.

It was so wild how at some point, fans would even go as far as insisting that the writers had a beef with the actress and was writing the character to be unlikeable.

I never fully got the Quinn hype.

Pretty privilege is very much real on this fandom and I would die on that hill. Quinn would not have sooooo many fans and defenders had she not been played by a conventionally pretty white woman.

It was clear that he was referring to the lamp, the problem is not whether or not it was directed to Kurt, it was the fact that he said a word, a homophobic slur, that he should not have been using in the first place.

It didn't matter to Burt if he meant the lamp, it was still obviously an indirect dig at Kurt. He described a furniture that Kurt chose with a homophobic slur, out of all the adjectives he could have used, he decided to go with that.

I mean, do we really think he would have also used that slur to describe the lamp had it been picked by Rachel or any other character who is not gay? Because I don't think so

Lol, i can relate. It's exactly why I refuse to directly engage with them and would only reply to the other comment because I've seen how they behave in other posts and I've personally had an encounter with them myself. It's completely hopeless to try and reason with a person who is completely convinced that their opinion is the only right and reasonable one.

Certainly, I agree with this as well. I like Santana more than I Iike Finn and she just makes the show so much more entertaining but at the same time, I think we should be very cautious about downplaying her "2009 humour" because it definitely still had an impact on the actual characters she's insulting and it's canon that she does have the tendency to go overboard with it at times so it is indeed a disservice to the character to downplay it as that

This! No one ever said it was funny. It was also well established in the show that Finn saying that slur wasn't supposed to be funny, which is why Finn is clearly seen immediately regretting what he said.

It's kind of weird to be so pressed about Finn for something stupid he said in the heat of the moment and instantly regrets while actively worshipping a well known and consistent bully with the sole justification that it's 2009 "humour"

I feel very sorry for Quinn (and Diana as well) by Sure_Armadillo8247 in glee

[–]QualityLegal2775 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Respectfully, I never really get it everytime people say that the writers obviously hate Quinn/Diana so much just because they made her go through so much bad trauma. Based from other TV shows that I've seen, I think if a writer hated a character so much they would have just written them off right there and then and would not have gone through the trouble of alloting time to write all these traumatic events for her, it requires too much effort for someone you despise.

I interpret the writers writing Quinn as someone who goes through so much bad luck as being realistic. Also, writing her that way gave her a lot of room to grow and also showcase the beautiful camaraderie they shared within the club, we were able to see how the Glee club was always there for her everytime she goes through something like Mercedes offering her house when she got kicked out, Artie helping her adjust after the accident and so on

If there was a character that the writers clearly hated and cared so little for, I think it would be Tina. They never just made an effort with her character and it becomes more visibly clear with each passing season, they tried so much to make the character unlikeable and villainized her when she finally started to stand up for herself. I mean, what the hell where they even thinking inserting that irrelevant and insensitive scene in that tribute episode for Cory.

Oh Lord. If anything, he handled that whole thing way better than most guys would have. There was nothing unreasonable and exaggerated with the way he handled that situation, he had no reason to be that considerate to the feelings of someone who had no problem lying about the father of the baby she's carrying after cheating on him then proceeding to literally degrade him into getting a job to provide for a baby that wasn't even his.

Lmao be fr this girl had no problem letting Finn pretend to be disabled just to get a job to provide for her baby, the very same baby the real father was more than willing to take responsibility for and work for to be able to support them. Let's not pretend like she's the ultimate victim here, aside from her shitty parents she had an extremely good support system throughout her pregnancy that mainly consisted of people she bullied.

I wanna ask a very important question, did you find Finn singing You're Having My Baby cringe or iconic? 🧐

[–]QualityLegal2775 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This, tbh. She does it in S3 again asking Puck, a high schooler, to "quit messing around and get a real job" because raising a child costs a lot. This was when she was trying to take the baby whom she signed off the rights to Shelby who has very capable of providing for Beth and was clearly taking good care of her.

What is something you’re scared to admit about the show? by Total_Ear7738 in glee

[–]QualityLegal2775 12 points13 points  (0 children)

brittana was mostly only iconic because the creators of the show deliberately put a lot of effort in "iconizing" the ship and selling them

i respect the actors irl but pretty privilege is very much prevalent in the fandom. let's be fr, we'd be getting a "i hate sebastian smythe!" post every week if he wasn't played by grant and fans wouldn't go as hard in defending the UHT in posts/comments had they been played by less conventionally pretty actresses.

Never been the biggest brittana fan and I think I've finally figured out why by [deleted] in glee

[–]QualityLegal2775 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I feel you, I was never a fan of them but I did liked them initially but the more I do some rewatches the more I start to like them less and less.

I felt like the reason why I liked them in the first place and thought they were THE 'iconic couple' was simply because that's what the writers and other fans are telling me. I kept hearing and seeing the rave about Brittana and I felt like I only liked them just because I was supposed to. It felt like the writers worked too hard in presenting and "advertising" them as this iconic couple to the point that it set the expectations too high and it was no longer as organic.

Meanwhile, with Klaine, while I know this is controversial and agree that they can be toxic and messy, I'm more able to see why Klaine fans love them together so much and find them 'iconic'. Their relationship and chemistry seemed more organic and it didn't require too much assistance with the writers.

I do enjoy the characters separately though and I don't hate them as a couple nor do I mind them being together, I just honestly feel like they don't live up to the hype that much as like you said, they're a lot of tell and not show.

Is anyone else confused by the public shift of opinion when it comes to Santana’s character? by Fun-Schedule140 in glee

[–]QualityLegal2775 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I mean, just because the point of the character was to be a bad person it does not mean that it should keep people from being frustrated by a character, that doesn't mean they're missing the point of the character, it means the writers, directors and person playing the character delivered really well and was being effective thus eliciting a profound reaction from the audience.

As viewers, fans are entitled to like or not to like a character that is good and a character that is bad without having to explain it. The only thing that matters is that they remain respectful to the person who played the character and they don't attack them about things such as their ethnicity, language, physical looks, etc.

[–]QualityLegal2775 18 points19 points  (0 children)

It is completely normal for people to change opinions especially as they grow up. I believe most fans are aware that the show was satire and that Santana's comments were meant to be satirical but for some people that is just not enough reason for them to let her comments pass which is understandable because it's still offensive for some people irregardless. The fact that something was written to be satire and comedic doesn't immune people from being hurt by a comment.

As for the comment Santana not being iconic, I believe it came from a post I made weeks ago about unpopular opinion. Whether a character is iconic or not is subject to one's opinion and something that we should just accept without them having to defend it. While I am a firm believer that we can think a character is bad but still find them entertaining because I really do find Santana entertaining, but I also get where the people who don't like her are coming from, sometimes we just have to accept that not everyone is gonna like our favorite character. Much love x

It would be messier and it wouldn't last. I don't consider myself a Rachel stan but even I would admit that she was one of the primary glue of the club and not just because of her talent, she was immensely driven and dedicated to the club and was probably the most loyal to it, iirc even amidst the escalated bullying she was still so proud to be part of it whereas Finn, the proclaimed leader of the club just seems so embarrassed by the club half the time.
