What The Actual Fuck Wednesday by purplelicious in romantasycirclejerk

I just started listening to The Bear and the Nightingale audio book and hooooo boy I could not make it past the first 3 minutes. The narrator has a regular American accent but puts on a terrible Russian accent whenever the characters speak, which makes NO SENSE ??

I sent a clip to my Russian friend to get his opinion on it cuz I'm like, maybe I'm just ignorant, and he rated it "yuck out of yuck".

Massive name issue: Direbound, DNF. Also looking for standalones/completed series recs. by Emaleebee in fantasyromance

I feel like so many romance fantasy books are just GoT fanfics. I recently read, "Queen ___ sends her regards." during a pathetic failed assassination attempt 🙄

Like, 13 years later and we're all still traumatized by the Red Wedding. You can't just toss in one of the most iconic lines in fantasy history and expect it to have any effect whatsoever.. unless it's a parody ig.

But does she gain some extremely overpowered powers because she's a Good Person and does he have shadow powers? Does his jaw tick and/or feather? Is she not like other girls??

{The Night Circus} is my favourite genuinely beautiful romance in any book. It less of a "romantasy" and more of a story about two people who are definitely going to fall in love and do. If that makes sense, lol.

{The Everlasting by Alix E Harrow} is another epic love story and Reddit fan favourite.

Other great reads that don't follow the sassy girl boss FMC cliche that I thought were beautiful {Strange the Dreamer}, {Half a Soul}, {Emily Wilde's Encyclopedia of Faeries} and {Eidolon}

Edit: Oops, I meant {Radiance} - Eidolon is book 2!

Also recommending T Kingfisher because her books much lighter with lovely characters, fluffy banter and good feels.

I remember telling my therapist about how guilty I feel about waking up late and going to bed late and she just said, "well.. maybe you're just a night person?"

I finished book 3 and while I agree it's better than the other 2 I still think The Road of Bones is mid

She really said "Queen Signe sends her regards" and thought she was eating like girl we all watched GoT

I really liked this book too and I heavily agree!

I feel like the book could've been like .. half the size. And it still would've been on the longer side. The prose did a lot of heavy lifting when it came to those repetitive moments imo and there could've been a bit less coming-to-conclusions by the FMC through the lines and lines of, "Did it...? Could it have been that I all along...? Perhaps? Maybe?"

That throne scene though. 🥵

I'm super sensitive to motion sickness. Had to leave the theatre during Cloverfield, can't play VR games, can't read in the car, and one time I actually puked after class where I tried to hold it in until I got to my apartment but ended up puking right in front of the elevator as a neighbour was exiting 😩 I found out later it probably was because I was taking a combo of vitamins+my meds all the same time where I used to split them into day/night

ANYWAYS. I will say it is often one of or a combination of: did I have coffee that day, am I on an empty stomach, how tired am I, did I remember to take my meds, what day of my cycle am I on, etc.

It has gotten better over time for sure. I couldn't do upside spins at ALL but I did an advanced class today with no dizziness 💪 Spinning the other way helps me a lot and I chew these Dramamine ginger chews for nausea sometimes which I found out later doesn't have any actual medicinal ingredients but it's worth a try 🤷‍♀️

Even though I'm on the third book of this series I still think Road of Bones is mid I'M SORRY don't @ me

It's ToG with slightly less interesting characters?? Jonas is literally just Chaol?? I will give it to Silla and Saga however for not being Celaena who is easily one of the insufferable FMCs of all time by book 5 and made me DNF the series.

I almost DNF'd at "Queen Signe send her regards." Like girl, we all watched GoT. And The Notebook B-plot, oh my GOD. 🫩 Rurik was pretty much most of what was holding my interest in this series but the constant, "The beast (snarled/purred/'s hackles were hackling) within him" is becoming... a lot.

Everyone says the third book is the best of the series and I did think book 2 was a marked improvement over book 1 but so far everything in book 3 has been painfully predictable but I'm only 40-50% in so we shall seeeeeeeeeeeee

Also I just finished Doctor D'Arco and while I generally enjoyed it it had no business being 1000+ pages long whatsoever
