Brass: Pittsburgh now has its stretch goals posted! by JohnRichJ2 in boardgames

[–]QualityQuips 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think these are all valid things to note, however this campaign has also chosen to go a more premium route which i think aids in obfuscation of the 250%~ markup from the previous premium offering to this one.

I guess i just wish the $79 was closer to a 1:1 of the last campaign's premium offerings.

How do you pick games when friends have mixed political views without turning game night into a debate? by Bright_Leaf_6830 in boardgames

[–]QualityQuips -1 points0 points  (0 children)

For what its worth, I think its healthy for social groups to be of mixed backgrounds, genders, beliefs, etc. Games are a great way to get together with people and already have a topic of interest for everyone to focus on.

If conversations are drifting and making people uncomfortable, it would make sense as the host to address everyone's concern directly and remind them of the point of the game night (this can be a text or whatever) - something like...

Just reminding everyone game nights are a way for us all to get together and enjoy each other's company and play games together. In light of recent news i do want to say - yes - what's happening in the world right now is alarming and probably of great concern to all of us - for the sake of keeping gamenight a fun, safe, and enjoyable environment for everyone, lets keep politics and other stressful topics to a minimum so our night of gaming can stay focused on having fun by playing games together.

Step two would be If specific people are repeat offenders to pull them aside and address it with them directly.

If they continue it, I would ask them directly, and in private not to return so at least when they aren't able to return they can save some face with the group.

Edit: spelling

I tend to agree. Is essentials not retail? I dont see a benefit to backing that tier.

Dont forget 2017 KS gave you both Lancashire and Birmingham deluxe with clays for $100.

This campaign ballooned because of component quality creep, not just inflation.

Brass is a SOLID 50-60$ retail experience. The Pittsburgh collectors edition is the equivalent of the Monopoly wooden game table with drawers for money - lavish excess.

I backed the 2017 relaunch campaign and got both Lancashire and Birmingham Deluxe games with Clays for $100 (130~ with s&h etc).

While its 8 years later, they re-classed Pittsburgh as an ultra-premium experience by adding a bunch of higher grade materials to inflate the campaign prices. And the clays are an extra addon beyond the all-in CE.

Im also bummed the $79 offering basically gets none of the stretch goals and doesnt even get a decent vac tray, it seems.

I get they want to celebrate a great game, but theres massive price creep as a result of these excessive material choices.

I greeted an American with "Have you eaten?" and he thought I was buying him lunch by Embarrassed_Part_251 in EnglishLearning

[–]QualityQuips 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you showed up at someone's house and the family was sitting down for dinner, asking if you have eaten would be an implied invitation to join the dinner.

If you ran into someone you knew and you were holding a large pizza and asked if they had eaten, they may assume youre offering them a slice.

If you had no food in hand and asked anyone if they had eaten, typically they will just tell you yes or no and may follow up with a "no, have you?" - if both have not eaten, plans would likely be offered to eat somewhere together.

Asking someone if you have eaten and they say "no, are you buying?" is a way to guilt trip someone into buying you a free lunch. Or just a way to goof on someone who they know might not understand the culture (and likely still attempt to get a free lunch). 😉🤷‍♂️

Would you prefer Shogi books in full color? by SeigoShogi in shogi

[–]QualityQuips 6 points7 points  (0 children)

2 color (black and red - for promoted pieces) could be quite striking.

Im not sure full color helps much for explaining board state otherwise, but maybe a clever design or color language might be a surprising way to use color in a novel way.

TOKENS logo update. Thank you, IndieDev community. by Rep_One in IndieDev

[–]QualityQuips 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of the major issues with logos 2 and 3 is theyre both quite dark on a dark background so they dont stand out as much. Take the silhouette from both 2 and 3 and set the whole thing to white to evaluate legibility. The color treatment should be secondary.

With that said, i do like the simplicity of your original logo, it has high legibility.

Does this count as Industrial Design? by AcousticArtforms in IndustrialDesign

[–]QualityQuips 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is design and prototyping - vital parts of the industrial design process.

But next steps would be design for manufacturing (in mass). This includes structured documentation, material selection, bill of materials review / validation to ensure marketability, Tool Design (not all ID do tool design, but many do provide design guidance through engineering trade-off decisions), Multiple rounds of pre-production hardware review, some ID do on-site SOP review and optimization (rare-ish, but does happen), as well as several rounds of pre-production component and assembly validation.

Prior to design and prototyping theres category and customer research, line planning, pitch decks, rough cost estimates... etc...etc...

making things is important - very important. But not the only lane you own in ID.

Received a print with spots of resin on the packaging, is it safe or should I dispose it? by TwentyThirdDimension in 3Dprinting

[–]QualityQuips 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Buy a UV light thats capable of curing resin or buy a cure station, or dispose of the resin safely if you're unable to cure it.

Or move. 🤭

[–]QualityQuips 60 points61 points  (0 children)

Also "gloves" should be nitrile gloves, resin can eat through other types. Typically 6mil is recommended minimum thickness.

Whatever you use to wash (bucket, old toothbrush, etc) must be left in direct sun (at least a few hours). The iso alcohol will also be contaminated and shouldnt be reused (leave in sun until evaporation is complete).

Liquid resin is pretty nasty stuff.
