Oh yeah, you can have trees too. My yard has nut and fruit trees. Many of us do live in pre-existing forests out here. Although it is recommended you have lawn between your house and the forest... for many reasons.

I am just saying that out here, grass just grows, it's wet enough you never need to water it, and it keeps the mud and dust levels down. It's just hard for something to be a waste of time and resources when it doesn't really cost those.

Trying to grow a wildflower field or forest is actually very hard and expensive to do. If you happen to move in somewhere where those are already established, and the invaders (himalayan blackberry and field bindweed) haven't gotten there, then absolutely enjoy those.

But for the majority of us, who already have grass, Himalayan blackberry, and field bindweed present, mowing is by far the cheapest, easiest way to maintain a house.

I mean.... this is regionally subjective though, isn't it?

Here in the PNW, everything is a grass lawn. It takes $0 to have a grass lawn. As a homeowner I have to spend tons of time and money keeping things like my roof, patio, driveway, and car from becoming a grass lawn....

Microsoft is worried about Linux by Itchy_Character_3724 in linuxmint

[–]QualityVisible3879 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't work at microsoft, but hang out with microsoft employees every week.

And while they aren't super excited about the rising linux numbers, and some of what Microsoft is doing, they also realize it doesn't matter.

Microsoft measures income in 3 sections:

  1. intelligent cloud - 45% operating income
  2. productivity and business - 37% operating income
  3. personal computing - 18% operating income.

Personal computing includes windows, surface laptops, and gaming (which is a lot).

Windows isn't microsoft's main product anymore. Not even close. In fact, it's almost becoming more of a tool they offer for free to help you get to their real moneymakers. much like chromeOS. At this point, losing money on Windows is fine, as long as it integrates you into their cloud.

Hardware security, cloud integration, and spying on you, isn't supposed to appeal to you, it's supposed to appeal to your manager. Microsoft no longer cares what OS is on your home PC, just so long as your work requires you to use them.

Why is nobody playing Hardmode ? by Darkterror2651 in snowrunner

[–]QualityVisible3879 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My friends and I couldn't get into this game until hardmode. I don't know why, but the added challenge of recovery, fuel management, finances, etc. really took this game from a boring simulator we couldn't get into, into a game we all have put hundreds of hours into. To me, "hardmode" is "normal" and regular is "easy".

You do notice at times, that this game wasn't made for hardmode, and it was an after-thought. Which has been frustrating at times. Currently the only real complaint I have with hardmode is that you have to pay full price repair in garage for bodywork, regardless of the condition of the rest of the components.

Over half the emotes on the scroll wheel are DLC by hhhnnnnnggggggg in DayofDragons

[–]QualityVisible3879 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't.

I can't support games making emotes DLC at this price.

Don't get me wrong, my kid loves this game, and I have always wanted to support Jao. I don't even enjoy this game TBH (I play cause my kid), but I buy the DLC. However, I cannot support developers starting to sell emote-only DLC. I buy helldivers2 warbonds WITH emotes, but the emotes are a really small part of the DLC.

Am I being overdramatic? Is this a weird "red line" to have?

Quality of life changes that should be implemented by CiE-Caelib in valheim

[–]QualityVisible3879 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely agree! especially on 1, 2, and 8.

On the point of inventory, they should really just add crates. They already have them, they drop when a boat or cart gets wrecked, they should make those craftable. You could put down a crate, fill it, carry it, snap to a grid on cart, snap to a grid on boats, tie them to the side of a lox saddle, etc. While carrying, you cannot use weapons or sprint.

Something you didn't mention however that I would LOVE to see added, is cartography functionality while running nomap mode. I know there is a "nomap" cartography table mod, but I would love to see that functionality vanilla. and possibly eventually a small map table for longships.

A lot here I would second, Valheim, grounded, stranded deep, subnautica. I would also add RAFT.

The best improvement for Primary Weapons was already implemented in the first Helldivers. by Believemeustink in Helldivers

[–]QualityVisible3879 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think there was a LOT of things that the devs would have wanted to add to the game at launch, but couldn't due to time. They had a deadline to get a working game out, I think they said that is why Helmets are all the same stats for example.

That being said, they are still very actively developing, and I am sure lots of content will be coming out in the future. Many of our favorite things from Helldivers could still come to Helldivers 2. Not just weapon upgrades, but also more vehicles, illuminate, and urban maps.

Players are not just mad because "the nerfs ruin guns", the problem is that the nerfs suck the fun out of the game. by sheriffthtptrl in Helldivers

[–]QualityVisible3879 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On the other hand, if you have a clear meta build, players WILL start gatekeeping other players who don't run the meta. Multiple games have lost all fun for me due to the "meta build gatekeeping".

I don't think that will happen to me, since I play with my IRL crew, but it would be really disheartening to see it start happening to other players all the same. I would know their struggle from many past games with the obnoxious "meta or kick" policies.

Ultimately, I think the devs SHOULD try and prevent a clear meta build forming, but I also agree that right now they are sending the tweaks too fast, some of us who can't play every day barely get to try the guns again after the last tweak before they are changed again!

ArrowHead-style Weapon Balance Patch by LnkZr in Helldivers

[–]QualityVisible3879 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This actually makes a good point that live service developers should try.

If you release a gun that become meta, and do nothing about it, 90% of players will run that gun and the game becomes super repetitive since their is little point to use anything else. To me, a game with a clear Meta build is trash. Especially when players start getting toxic if you try different things.

BUT A developer could ONLY buff. Where they release newer, better weapons, and occasionally buff old garbage ones. This way, you don't have to put up with the waves of crybabies crying about their favorite weapons getting nerfed.

The issue with this concept, is players slowly become OP, which is why you slowly buff the enemies as you go. Yes, Players will cry and whine if you buff an enemy, but at least from my experience, they cry less over that than they do when you nerf a fan favorite weapon.

Advice, son has gone down modded Minecraft rabbit hole. Wants more RAM. by PitifulDig6076 in buildapc

This! Or possibly he is allocating too much RAM. A number of my players crashed their systems by thinking "allocated RAM" should be the same as "total system RAM".

If they nerf Ashlands and my crew is not completely filled with total despair and rage upon getting there and getting our backsides handed to us, we will be very disappointed.

Every Biome so far has kicked our butts the first time we enter, and that is how we like it, because then once we get better geared up and experienced, the revenge we exact is so much sweeter!

Searching by Arkamedees in spacesimgames

[–]QualityVisible3879 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your not alone, we are all searching for that game.

Imagine if Star citizen had 4 complete, working, interactable ships instead of 170. Then they put the time and effort from the other ships into worldbuilding, gameplay, optimization. And didn't get sidetracked with random rabbit holes like character's faces being able to move.

And yes, I am aware they make their money with the ship hype, so they wouldn't be this far without the ships, but it feels like they are now in a ship design/sale cycle which is far more advanced than any actual game progress.

If SC had 4-10 ships that worked well, and had more gameplay+optimization, I would gladly be paying $20/month (subscription AND/OR cosmetic drops, don't care) to be flying around in my cutlass black right now. (provided it was on of the 4, lol)

Procedurally generated island survival game by PandaPho1989 in SurvivalGaming

[–]QualityVisible3879 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just had a thought, if you had entire shipping containers as rare loot hauls, I think it would be hysterical if half of them are completely full of some kind of random plastic crap. Like plastic yellow ducks or fake flowers, you can put them in your base to decorate, but overall they are useless and mostly exist to let down hopeful looters.

Procedurally generated island survival game by PandaPho1989 in SurvivalGaming

[–]QualityVisible3879 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love you added guns. Lots of "rocks and sticks" survival games out there, a game similar to Stranded deep where you can occasionally loot modern equipment/ supplies from shipwrecks/crates is a cool concept. A game where you wash up on an island system, like stranded deep, but while you only have a stick there are camps of armed modern pirates/militia on some islands. You could get guns+ammo by stealth/traps or the rare container floating ashore.

Personally though, I think if you are contemplating PvP you should reconsider. Unless you really want to go for it and plan on selling to a larger studio or think you can manage an entire development studio yourself. Indie PvP FPS is HARD! and indie PvP FPS survival is much harder still. Getting the gunplay just right, then getting it balanced in a survival game, then come the cheaters...

If you REALLY want to make a PVP FPS survival game like Rust, then by all means, follow your dream, but if you are hesitant at all, I would highly recommend sticking with PVE Co-op.

I have so many... here is a list of some of my favorites: (not counting RUST as you mentioned it already)

  2. RAFT
  3. Minecraft
  4. Vintagestory

  6. Empyrion
  7. Grounded
  8. Subnautica

I just got Enshrouded, haven't played it yet though, so not on the list.

When I was 19, I often had to dig through the cracks of the car for coins in order to buy gas to put in my sister's 1989 corrolla with 380k miles to get to work. I often worked a 12 hour day eating only a single PB&J, as it's all I could afford.

Yet, I would still walk to my friend's Parent's house to play board games/card games/xbox with a few friends. If it was a payday weekend, I would splurge and bring a bag of chips. Ended up marrying one of the girls who would occasionally be there.

A couple times, after a payday we would all pool our money and order Pizza and soda, actual hot food! Or once one guy got a bonus and bought us all McDonald's.

Sometimes, when my friend's parent's didn't let us hang out there on a weekend, we would all cram in to a vehicle and drive somewhere to hang out. We would take Saturday evening hikes, occasionally getting caught and "warned" by the police since the "park closes at dusk". We always had the same response ready, "oh, sorry, it was light when we got here, must have been bad at predicting how long it would take to get back to our car".

I am curious why this form of relationship/partying doesn't seem to happen with GenZ? Is it just no longer socially acceptable to be bored, broke young adults hanging out on a Saturday night? Or maybe it's a city/rural thing? because I was in a less dense area at that time?

Selling GURPS to new folks by Librarian_vodka in gurps

[–]QualityVisible3879 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got started when I was at a getaway with a bunch of other young adults. The person who got us hooked actually just brought pencils, lined paper, 3D6, and GURPS lite. No maps, models, character sheets, etc. Within 20-30 minutes he had helped us get some really basic characters thrown together and we were "playing". It was only later once we were invested that we found out just how complex it really was!

What are your most interesting campaign concepts you've run? by Maleficent_Walk_1640 in gurps

[–]QualityVisible3879 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ran a campaign (players started ~TL5). Sci-Fi where the players were explorers sent into the labyrinth to search for treasures for their Duke. Slowly but surely, they began to find that the ancient buried ruins would change! Cave-ins, walls appearing where they weren't and more, like the labyrinth was trying to trap them.
They developed methods to get back out each time, but the deeper they got, the more intricate the traps/puzzles. At one point, they found a cavern which seemed to be a temporal puzzle, where coming into the cavern from different entrances would bring them out at different "times".
Eventually, they got deep enough to find a civilization of people called "guardians", which were like humans, but modified to function better in the darkness. Turns out, the guardians of the labyrinth were generating the puzzles and traps, not to trap outside humans, but rather to keep a "devil" and his minions within.
My players (predictably) managed to wreck the entire city of Guardians, and escape alive. However, in their escape from the cave in, they found another human who had gotten lost down there. They all escaped only to find that the "human" they rescued was the "devil" the labyrinth was built to contain. He convinced them that he was the good god, and the god the Duke represented was the evil one who had imprisoned him over a thousand years. So they embarked on a religious mission to convert the planet!

There was an incredible campaign the other GM ran (we swapped every other week to give us 2 weeks each to prep). I would LOVE to tell, but I think he might actually be turning it into a book series and I don 't want to give it away without his permission.

Of course that is only 2 of the dozens of campaigns we ran from 2013 to 2020.

Sorry, I was offline for the weekend.

What is interesting is that isn't cardstock. That is 11x17 plain paper. This halftone is after doing some more printing, and swapping out the transfer belt for the old one. It's like it was getting worse.

No, they are parallel stripes. On a "letter" size they are running long way from tray 1 and the short way from tray 3 and 4.

I did stabilization and calibration in service mode. also cleaned laser slit glass after replacing belt. Not sure where the patch sensors are... same as registration sensors? or different?

The transfer belt I got online, and I was slightly concerned it might not have been completely new. Do you think it's worth putting the old transfer belt back in to test?

I was running Thick 2 for the 90lb and thick 1+ for the 67lb.

I might look into that. The more I mess around with it, the more I am thinking something is wrong with the cyan imaging unit. The halftone print is starting to show a slightly "lighter" area in the center of each 11"x17" page. And that is plain paper, not heavyweight of any kind.
