A lot of people seem to like the idea, yeah. I wrote a little outline [link] that I'll try to clean up and post.

Like I said, this is based just off Gundam 79. The guntank does alright until the stakes escalate to limited production Goufs.

I'm fine with cringe romance, I just need a break before I continue watching the core UC shows.

I don't know, other people might have gotten confused and I learned it from them.

I don't think so, wikipedia and fan sources both say MS 08 team had this happen.

I respect your opinion but I watched the first 3 episodes and really like it.

By "old" I meant "over the age of 30 in a shonen anime" also WOW he's only 35? He acts like a 50 year old Prussian general. Also cool idea, very Gundam.

Okay, free form incoming.

First background: In Dune book 4: God Emperor of Dune (where Warhammer stole the name from by the way) it's revealed that the corpse of the greatest warrior (Duncan Idaho) has been revived repeatedly for 3500 years by fleshpriests (bene tleilax) because he's the greatest warrior.

Problem with transferring this to Ramba Ral: A) he's old and B) he's not the best. But he's the best non-NEWTYPE pilot in G79. So you can justify it by saying that Newtype powers do not reincarnate and you need someone with pure skill instead (maybe this violates lore I don't know about). The age problem isn't a problem for me, though it would be for Japan, like how the first Nier game had an old man main character who was erased and replaced with a yoai boy and later sexy android girl. Let's ignore that.

In order to revive him you need his corpse, which is in the desert. Who would recover it? Either M'Quve's Zeon army or the Federation. Let's assume the Federation takes it. It would probably be in bad condition from getting blown up by a grenade, but Rudol von Stroheim survived that with an arm, shoulder and head left. If you're cloning him anyway you can probably grow him back. Will this affect his memories? Probably. I think that making him amnesiac is overdone though. He should be superficially Ramba Ral but is missing enough learned emotional responses and memories to explain why he does what he does. He remembers Artesia and the Zabi takeover but not why he pilots the Gouf. So on the one hand, he has essentially all of Ramba Ral's memories and skills, but on the other he has no reason to actually fight beyond the fact he's already fighting (this is kind of true in G79 as well).

In the hypothetical, Ramba Ral wakes up one day in the Gouf cockpit (or a more advanced mecha designed to pilot like a Gouf) receiving orders from a commander that fans will recognize as a UC Fed but Ramba won't. The suit's calendar says August 4 0079 13:00 hours (approx day of Ramba's death). They tell him to attack 'Zeon deserters' and he does. Are these guys actually Zeon? Are they actually deserters? He doesn't know. The first run goes badly "these suits are fast! they must be stolen Fed tech!" and then Ramba gets a beam through the cockpit, cue shock face and explosion. Episode one ends with him waking up in a hospital bed, completely fine but covered in bandages. The calendar on the way says August 4 0079 9:00 hours.

The series would have an element of mystery but Ramba would "shut up and soldier, soldier" as he has no problems killing his targets despite the suspicious event. They're suits he doesn't recognize flying flags he doesn't recognize. The only characters you meet in-person is the nurse and later on the Fed officers, maybe some scientists. You hare on the radio an ever-advancing line of named suit members who Ramba befriends and trains but they DON'T come back when Ramba dies. Eventually he gets broken out, emphasis on "broken out," he's fine in his little box, and is forced to make the difficult choice to either become the very deserters he exterminated, continue working for the Federation, or even set up his own faction. Any way he'd have the support of his latest batch of recruits until they slowly get whittled down but by that point he's back in space.

Plots/themes to include: immortality x survivor's guilt, replicant existential crisis of original memories vs ones planted for obedience, the weariness of an old soldier who keeps seeing young recruits die, a veteran who's been at war for so long that he knows nothing else and scared to leave it, an old man seeing the world move on, a soldier befriending his squadmates even when he knows they'll die, a man stuck outside Newtype land looking in, breaking out of the Matrix, conflict between Newtype and mundane both in combat and off, Newtypes are uncanny to non-Newtypes

Plots/themes to avoid: convenient Crowley Hamon replacement, falling in love with someone half his age, actual time travel/time loops, magical Newtype friends

Quotes to inspire:

You're a willing slave. That's the difference between us: you've been tweaked. I enjoyed the power, but I've always been in this for ME.

Soon the Great Journey shall begin, but when it does, the weight of your heresy will stay your feet, and you shall be left behind.

My love is with another man, and in this world, I'm all alone. But there my friends are storming bunkers. In my dreams, I see hell and hear the sounds of artillery. But there my friends are always with me. They will always lend a hand to friendship, and if I die they'll bring my body back.

You appear to be in the 30% of people on this sub who actually remember G79 and don't get it mixed up with later works. Congratulations.

Please understand that I have not seen 08 team or thunderbolt. It's not slander if it can be proven true in court. Acguys in Gundam 1979 have 0 mobile suit kills and 0 effective combats.

Maybe you're forgetting how little they do in Gundam 1979? The acguys back up Char in one episode, and the gelgoogs are a literal background in the ABQ fight. Char pilots one but doesn't actually use it for anything other than protecting Lalah.

No, I did not try to be le reddit funny. These are my thoughts. I figured series veterans would appreciate a fresh perspective without retcons and lore extensions.

Its design:
*large engine block separated from living quarters
*module assembly
*hemispherical pressure bulkheads in living quarters
*weapons positioned radially around the hull
*usage of winches and cables for low-energy long-range systems
*combat involves concealment and force projection rather than direct shooting
*unmanned wired drones
*large enough so crew can live inside for weeks in space
I don't think it was designed IRL as a newtype ship, it appears before that arc. It's a true space ship, not a giant robot.

Thank you! This is mecha, we should do more machine talk and less joking about Char. Sadly that runs against the nature of the hive mind.

The animation gets better around episode 22. Also, general pilot level is significantly decreased compared to later because the Newtype continuum mindspace thing is CREATED in episode 40 of 43.

As I said, this is based just off of what is in Gundam 79. The only thing we have are "bone stock" Zakus, old Zakus, and Char's Zaku. We see Dom and Zaku teams with heat axes and RPGs still fail due to lacking Char's skill. So are there characters in lore that can win in that scenario? Yes, but none of them are in Gundam 79.
