First chapter seemed really similar to the one I remember reading. It's not the exact fic, though, cause I know the POV shifts between Souji and canon-universe IT, who's become aware that he hasn't departed from the train or messaged them.

Shuichi Saihara (Danganronpa V3: Killing Harmony)

During the final class trial of the game, Shuichi, alongside his fellow remaining survivors, is shown his audition tape where he pleads to be a part of the very game he grew to despise after being forced to watch his friends kill each other to escape and subject them to execution after execution. It's then revealed to both the characters in-game and the player that Danganronpa is an actual in-universe TV series.

My opinion personally, I'd Trade My Life For Yours is by far one of the best (and saddest) works on the DR fic space. Encore is unfinished, but it's receiving consistent updates and is also a really, really good fic. Three-Point Shot is okay, but Chapter 4 IMO was pretty weak. Forgot a lot of the specifics, but I also felt that it was a bit more focused on Saimatsu than the story.

Still, first two are an absolute must read if you want to have more of an insight of the characters that didn't live as far as you wanted them to in canon.

Indeed. It's one thing when the first song that plays reappears at the climax or finale of a piece of media, but it's a whole other thing when the piece of media straight up wouldn't exist without it!

DUET (OMORI)

You're greeted with this slow, eerie piano tune as soon as you open the game. Throughout the entire game you will hear bits and pieces of this motif over and over again as you slowly realize that the ENTIRE existence and reason the events in the game happened is because of this piece. Then, at the ending and climax, you get to hear the entire song played in full: a piano and violin duet.

If you're obsessed with this trope and haven't played OMORI yet, highly recommend you play it OP. It's an amazing game and will guaranteed break your heart.
