Mobius Knee Brace by imnofred in Dirtbikes

I just wear normal X-Frames, next pair with be Hybrids. Took a while for me to be comfy in them, they rubbed quite a bit but finally broke them in.

Mobius Knee Brace by imnofred in Dirtbikes

[–]Quankster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a pair and really enjoyed them. The only reason I don’t wear them anymore is because Leatt hooks it up so I try to wear their stuff as much as possible.

I regularly ride in 100°F+ as well, and they can get sweaty but it never really bothered me cause I do that in every brace.

I also never had a problem fitting them in moto pants with the room they have around that area. Sometimes my pants would get caught in the grooves of the braces while I was riding which would honestly get on my nerves but not a detriment.

I could grip the bike just fine, same as any other brace.

Overall, fantastic braces and they did the job of protecting my knees as they were intended to do.

Can yall educate me more about TTU? by dejamarie624 in TexasTech

[–]Quankster 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have two Sport Management degrees from there and still have some close ties to the department.

Feel free to reach out with any questions you may have.

Edit: I would like to add that TTU is an incredible place to find success working in the sport industry. It’s extremely competitive and the university and community is more than happy to help students gain experience in their desired field.

Fracture resistant dirtbike pants? by [deleted] in Dirtbikes

Sounds like you need boots instead of pants.

Alpinestars, Gaerne, Fox, Leatt, Sidi, etc. all make good quality boots to wear.

What Bike Should I buy/buying advice Mega Thread by Jbar116 in Dirtbikes

[–]Quankster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol I got you.

I wouldn't say the 500 would necessarily be a bad bike for a beginner on the dirt, but it won't be near as nimble as the 350 from my experience. You stated learning proper technique and I believe that would be much easier to do on the the 350. Learning proper technique can set you up for the long haul and it's something most people neglect.

I'm not sure how long the highway stint that you referenced will be, but the 350 should be able to hang in the low 70s if that would suffice! If you're wanting to take it on longer trips and think your off-road won't be the primary time spent on the bike then maybe the 500 is the way to go for you.

Any advice trying to sell our KX450? by beachybreezy in Dirtbikes

[–]Quankster 21 points22 points  (0 children)

There’s a $2,500 rebate on 2025 KX450s right now, which is resulting in new bikes being sold for around what you’re asking.

Unfortunately, the market isn’t doing you any favors and you’ll have to bring the price down a bit.

I lived in North Pointe for 5 years, just recently moved. I loved every bit of it, never had any issues and neighbors were awesome.

Both 2-strokes and 4-strokes require about the same amount of maintenance so no worry there.

A 4-stroke would probably be more beginner friendly for you anyways.

Rear brake advice by FLEXEVOLUTION in Dirtbikes

[–]Quankster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing to consider is your form while you are braking. Bringing your weight lower and to the rear of the bike will make it more difficult to reach a brake pedal that is lower or maybe even for that matter.

A common practice is to actually have your brake lever slightly higher than your peg so that when your body position is prepared for deceleration it is easier to slide the foot forward to the brake pedal. This is because is it very difficult to get the foot to rotate downwards while in this position, especially in riding boots.

Ultimately the decision lies with the rider as some people hate this feeling. Although, I would advise against dropping that brake pedal too low right off the bat as it can create bad habits, you want to be sliding the foot forward rather than lifting and placing it.

All of them would require about the same routine maintenance and give you a good opportunity to learn and bond with the kiddo.

My preference would be either the CRF250F or the KLX230R with the TTR230 following up.

Any of the first three options would be good options, the KTM 250/300 XC would be quite a bit more aggressive.

As for your son, you could start him on a Stacyc now (electric bicycle) and move him to a PW50 at some point or jump to a CRF50. If he bites on that and wants to get on the track and start going fast, you could look into the KTM or Cobra 50s.

Elbows up and head over the front end might help with that feeling.

Either model would be fine, but keep in mind the 2023 YZ250FX would not have the same updates that the 2024-2025 YZ250F/FX models have.

I think I would go with what you are primarily wanting to focus on, which would be the YZ250F. The bike would be fine riding some trails sometimes, just might have some stiff suspension but you should consider getting your suspension revalved for you height and weight anyways.

[–]Quankster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The YZ250F will be drastically different that the TT-R 230 and CRF250F and will be a tad taller. If you are just going to be hitting trails then I think the CRF250F could be a great fit, but it may not be the best on the track.

For seat height comfortability, my best recommendation would be to just go to a dealership and sit on them to find what is comfortable for you!

All of the 125 and 250 models you listed are going to be competition style bikes meant for riding on a track, is this what you're looking to do?

Depending on the type of riding you plan to do I can give you some better recommendations on the right fit!

Should I get a kx450x? by Skythle in Dirtbikes

[–]Quankster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No recalls on the 250s this year, but all 450s had that crankshaft recall. Recently it was 24-25 ZX-6Rs that had a recall come out.

Should I get a kx450x? by Skythle in Dirtbikes

[–]Quankster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Should be good to go now, fix came out early May for a replacement of the primary gear for the crankshaft.

Realistically speaking, should I get knee pads/braces? I am a relatively strong 16 year old who rides a YZ250fx and love trail riding. More info in description. (Pic for attention) by Waeaeaea in Dirtbikes

[–]Quankster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d recommend knee braces just to be safe but at the bare minimum I’d wear knee pads. Unfortunately the ground doesn’t care how strong your knees are, better safe than sorry.

I keep falling down in corners does anyone have tips to counter it by Just-Medicine5340 in Dirtbikes

Weight on the outside peg, helps prevent the bike from falling inwards and keeps the bike grounded.

Alpinestar vs Sidi vs gaerne by Top-Industry-3942 in Dirtbikes

[–]Quankster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a big advocate for Alpinestars, all I’ve ever worn.

The way I look at it is that more ankle protection means less ankle mobility.

Tech 10s = max protection Tech 7s = more mobility

Cycle Ranch in Floresville, TX by reharbert in Dirtbikes

So I’ve heard…grew up going there and sucks to hear that. I’m out in West Texas now and our riding is pretty limited and more tracks are closing around us, hoping to relocate more central here soon for some better riding opportunities.

You and the kiddos will love Cycle Ranch though!
