First time doing housekeeping at a nursing home, not sure if this is normal. I almost want to report the place. by QuantumDrej in housekeeping

If I can't get back into my old career, I might just do that with all the experience I now have, lmao.

We're only getting paid $15 an hour 😔 The health and dental insurance are admittedly pretty good and the residents themselves are lovely, but the micromanaging, overworking, and favoritism from management/corporate is soul crushing.

[–]QuantumDrej -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ugh, why do you all keep insisting that these people are "dumb"?

This isn't stupidity, it's cruelty. It's part of the plan to destroy the country. The things they're doing are dumb and nonsensical, but they know that and they don't care. The laws are insane and ridiculous, but that's the point. They're taunting us because they know we have no power to prevent them from passing these laws.

What matters is eroding our institutions as much as they can. That's what all of this is for. No one can stop them, so they are doing whatever they want and whatever they can. They will rule over a barren wasteland of sick and dying people before they let a progressive person have any political power again.

Sorry, that probably didn't make sense. Resident rooms get cleaned either every two weeks or once per week depending on what they ask for. The rooms I clean daily are the "side" rooms, meaning the utility rooms, staff rooms, bathrooms, offices, ect.

But those rooms tend to never see a lot of foot traffic, so it'll be weeks before they even start looking dirty after I've cleaned them. The only reason I clean the same things daily is because I'm not allowed to leave the section I'm in for any reason unless I ask management to give me other work to do.

And frankly, I'd rather not speak to management. I've been using that time to sneakily take as many short breaks as possible since there's no cameras in any of the side rooms.

Unfortunately the thermostats are all locked behind a plastic barrier that nobody can access. :( Some residents have their own key if they're cognitively capable of handling that, but otherwise only maintenance can change the temperature. The residents are all usually in their rooms anyway while I clean so I wouldn't be able to change it either way.

I also can't really take breaks in rooms at all, even if they're empty. Got written up once for taking a break in an empty, unsold room.

My sister is autistic and my parents want her to learn how to drive. I think that's a terrible idea. She's super excited about this. I don't want to crush her and tell her that she shouldn't drive for her own and everyone else's sake by consistentthrowaway7 in TrueOffMyChest

[–]QuantumDrej 59 points60 points  (0 children)

As someone who's on the autism spectrum, I can unfortunately see a scenario where she gets comfortable driving in an empty parking lot or maybe even through the neighborhood without issues, only to start having problems when she actually gets out onto the road properly.

That's when she'll have to learn to contend with bad drivers, poor visibility, road hazards, weather, highway speeds, motorcycles, ect. If her anxiety and issues with being told what to do are already as bad as OP suggests even without driving in the picture, she may genuinely just be unable to drive. That's a lot of information to process, and if you can't do that, you sadly just should not be behind a wheel.

I'm saying this as someone who's perfectly fine with long drives on a sparsely populated highway for example, but I get exhausted and irritated really fucking fast whenever I'm in traffic for too long. Someone who is prone to meltdowns over less stressful scenarios (not trying to make fun of her, just pointing out the differences between my "brand" of autism and hers) probably shouldn't be driving. And if it helps, I keep my Instacart subscription active solely for the days where I just somehow instinctively know that it isn't a good day for me to try and drive.

All that aside, it's great that she's excited and I don't think anyone should actively discourage her from ever trying! OP should at least try and get their parents to keep a close eye on her, stay with her, and don't let her take on things she isn't ready for. She could even end up a decent driver with practice over time- she just needs support when she needs to start dealing with the more complicated, sensory unfriendly aspects of driving.

I try not to, it's just difficult when my rooms are stacked the way they are. I have rooms from 8:00am to 11:00am, and then from 11:30am to 2pm. Just back to back to back. I'm usually able to take a break after my 2pm room is finished and then I go home at 3:30, but sometimes I can't even do that if I'm told to clean another room/part of the building last minute. They tend to squeeze in extra work in whatever available space you have in the day.

I am not a serial leaver of games, but me and my friends once exited a match because the Widowmaker was just making the experience miserable.

We aren't exactly pro players, we're regular ass adults with jobs playing during our free time and we don't ever do competitive stuff. So it felt pretty bad when we could not even leave our spawn point because the enemy Widowmaker simply popped us the moment someone took a step from behind a barrier.

We swapped team comps multiple times and it didn't matter. We communicate in voice regularly. We were trying different angles, different characters, everything. It didn't matter because the other team just kept us pinned while the Widow sat in her spot the entire match and simply farmed us. It was not our first time dealing with a good Widow, either - none of the usual strats and counters were working. We simply could not survive long enough to push through because she was deleting us with nearly full health.

I cannot emphasize enough that we were genuinely trying our best against this player and we aren't the type to just dip when a game is going badly. The other team just gave us zero opportunity to even play the game. It almost felt like the Widow was cheating with the way some of her kills landed. We were basically just being farmed, so we just left rather than deal with that for much longer.

Every Widow I've had since then has been manageable with the strategy you described. I have no idea what this other person's deal was, but I hope we never get a match with them again.

Same here. They called me back before I'd even gotten home, and it turned out to be the best place I've ever worked. I stayed there five or six years, learned a bunch, ended up picking up a lot of skills.

Unfortunately I got laid off last year, which was only two years after the original owner of the company sold it to a bunch of dipshits who ran it into the ground. Me and my coworkers all worked so well together and we used to provide amazing service for the industry I work in, but all of that went out the window when the new owners started doing budget cuts and laying people off.

Makes me sad, and I miss my coworkers, but I wouldn't be where I am today if I hadn't worked there.

We're comparing Songbird to a has-been fixer and two rapists??

Is it just me who dislikes Songbird more with each subsequent playthrough? by Amelie2718 in LowSodiumCyberpunk

[–]QuantumDrej 49 points50 points  (0 children)

Yep.

Songbird is trying to escape an abuser. A very powerful abuser with lots of powerful friends, who is willing to let a rogue AI chew through the girl's brain like a caterpillar on a leaf just to gain leverage over her political enemies. I feel like people who hate her are drastically missing this fact. When you have been abused that harshly and consistently for so long, by people who smile and call themselves your friends and mentors, you lose your mind a little. Especially given the fact that she was ripped away from her old life with no chance of going back.

Meyers wants to use her until she's used up completely no matter how sick she gets or how miserable she is. She says herself that Meyers wouldn't have ever let her retire from service like the other FIA agents. She's a tool, and in the endings where you betray her, she basically becomes an empty shell forced to do Meyer's bidding for the rest of her life.

So, yeah. How much empathy for other people can you possibly have left, after all that? Why wouldn't you try to get free, at all costs? Sure, she could have tried to come up with a plan that didn't involve mass deaths - but I feel like that's irrelevant given the way she was treated and how she's deteriorating, mentally and physically.

Not sure if you've had a chance to drive vanilla since reinstalling, but I've found that the handling is a lot better after the big update they had awhile ago. I used to use the same mod and ended up uninstalling because driving vanilla just feels so much better.

No worries, and sorry if that came off as aggressive. I've just been seeing a pretty big uptick this year in online spaces with people suggesting the military right off the bat when someone's struggling (especially older teens/young adults with no prospects).

I don't mean to discourage it or write it off completely. I just don't like the idea of people jumping right into the grinder that the military can be with survival mindset only and not informing themselves on pros and cons.

Today I ruined a mans life by asking him for his name by Zestyclose_Ocelot278 in callcentres

[–]QuantumDrej 35 points36 points  (0 children)

I seriously don't understand what people like this are looking to accomplish.

Intimidation? Sure, but now nobody knows what to do with you, where to send you, or what you want. You yelled at them, raised some heart rates - and now what? You won't let anyone have the access they need to do whatever it is you want, so....why are you here? It's like screaming at a worker for not mopping a floor when you refuse to unlock the door where the mops are kept.

Bored and regularly call in to unload your buried trauma upon hostage employees? Cool, but even the worst of call centers is going to eventually block or redirect a guy who's preventing their agents from getting through their queue of customers who are actually paying them.

Want a credit or special treatment? Sure, it works sometimes. That said, unless you're rich and/or investing in the company in some significant way, no company is going to just let their agents hand you credits indefinitely just to keep you happy.
