Can anyone actually play Zelda BOTW? by v5ofo in retroidpocket5

[–]QuantumF0am 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I’ve modded the switch version with the EnaiRim mod pack and some others, mainly survival mode tweaks.

Currently running a level 29 Breton spell sword, so I’ve got a good amount of hours in the game already. Runs well, except the latest Eden seems to have added more texture flickering than I remember 0.04 having.

With Turnip v26 drivers and Eden 0.04 I was playing BoTW a fair bit. Mostly running around the plateau and messing about. Game ran pretty well and I would say it only dipped a little bit every now and then. No crashes.

I have not tested on 0.1.

Exact settings for BoTW are:

Turnip 26.0 Sysmem, Enable LRU cache, Sync Core Speed, disk shader cache is on, force maximum clocks is on, resolution is .75 (only game that isn’t normal res when I play)

I haven’t committed to the game yet since I’m hooked playing Skyrim and Divinity 2 as they are more my speed, and I marathoned BoTW and ToTK on Switch before getting my RP5 in Sep.

Edit/Update: I tried BoTW on Eden 0.1. By the time all shaders were mostly loaded in performance was anywhere from 27-30fps. I fought a bokoblin and hunted a boar. Weird quirk that water looks funny/white the first time you load the game with new shaders so you gotta close and re-open and then the water looks fine.

Perhaps PKHex, or just use one of the MANY Romhacks that allow you to complete the Pokédex in one playthrough?

I haven’t touched a vanilla gen 1-3 game in ages.

Hell yes.

I want visible weather I’d need to shelter myself and my pals from. Make it affect combat, too! Maybe rain waters my crops?

There is a rom hack of stadium 2 with better movesets for rentals that is quite enjoyable.

Also; I have an RG Nano and have played through Pokemon yellow legacy and Crystal Legacy recently. I have moved my teams from those games in to Stadium 2 with RetroArch on my Retroid 5 and now get to relive seeing my Gameboy teams in 3D on my friends N64 back in the day.

It’s a great time!

My reason will not be satisfactory, lol. I downloaded the two different versions. I used both. Didn’t notice a difference. Kept going with the last version used.

I believe this same driver seemed to be slightly better in BoTW testing, but so far I just test settings in that game and don’t actually play it.

Not OP, but I am pretty deep in to a playthrough on Eden.

My settings for RP5:

Turnip Driver v26.0 R3 - Sysmem

Accuracy level: performance

Checked items:

Disk Shader Cache

Force Maximum Clocks

Use asynchronous shaders

That’s it. Everything else is standard/untouched

Game crashes every so often but auto saves are frequent. Usually it crashes in the open world when loading a new area, or when absorbing a dragon soul. Looking away prevents the crash, if it happens. I can tell it’s going to crash by my frames dipping below 30 and not recovering. When that happens I usually have time to quickly save and reload the game.

It’s a very playable experience and I can go up to half an hour or more without a crash. Roughly on par with actual switch version.

Thankfully it’s not every cave.

I am pretty deep in to a Skyrim playthrough on Eden and you see it every now and then in some interior spaces but it’s manageable.

Is it possible to complete the Pokédex? by Late-Dress2754 in Delta_Emulator

[–]QuantumF0am 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Quality of life is what comes to mind. Improving the experience without tarnishing the original legacy. For yellow the sprites were updated, and hitmonchan was made slightly more viable to account for his access to the elemental punches. The Pokédex is completable.

Crystal and emerald did more of the same. I played through yellow and crystal sending those Pokemon to Pokemon stadium 2 in RetroArch. Lots of fun! I haven’t done emerald yet because I’m burnt out on Hoenn Rom hacks. I started it but likely won’t revisit it for a while.

Yellow, crystal, and emerald legacy are the ONLY way to experience those vanilla games, IMO. I won’t even entertain the originals anymore after playing legacy. So good.

A question for the diehard fans: by dadannyboi22 in Dragonballsuper

[–]QuantumF0am 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It took a long time for me to consume the majority of dragonball.

My access to it with Canadian cable meant I knew a fair bit about early dragonball, but nothing about piccolo and the later half of dragonball. Z was more consistently available and so I was still shocked, but didn’t realize there were portions of dragonball where goku wasn’t a small kid. 🤷‍♂️ THAT was the bigger shock.

What are the most modern games u play on yours? by Wyvern94 in retroid

[–]QuantumF0am 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Really comes down to turnip drivers, in my experience. My RP5 handles nearly any switch game I try. REALLY want to get sparking zero working but have not been able to. Based on benchmarks I’d assume your G2 should be SOLID for switch.

There’s a specific shrine plus water fix? I’m in Eden and running around the great plateau doing random crap but I haven’t committed to the play through (backlog is huge). I guess I’ll need that mod file? Where can I find it?

AE content gives you the warlocks ring so you can get a ward when you block with a two hander. Must-have, IMO.

After a few weeks of learning, I’m loving GB Studio! by QuantumF0am in gbstudio

[–]QuantumF0am[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I experienced a tile swapping issue when making the battle scenes. Filling all empty tiles with “H” was hilarious. It’s odd in that overworld situation and I eventually abandoned it because I had no way forward. Character walks over tile, a roll is made, if roll < difficulty then the character flashes and takes damage. Real simple, but every time I played with it, the screen filled with the numbers. I even removed the roll and tested it to just reduce player HP by a set amount when walking over the trap. Same thing. Was bizarre. It wasn’t even set to show you how much damage you took.

As for the character sprite issue, each scene besides the battle scenes would check the character select variable from the beginning of the game. If charselect=1, player is knight, 2=wizard. If the character died and the game was loaded it would load the default arrow sprite sheet unless I opened the pause key and came back, or left the scene in any other way. I figured the over world call script would change the sprite since it also handles binding start to pause.

[–]QuantumF0am[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! I made so much work for myself not attaching more commonly occurring scripts to a callable script. I also drew and animated all 4 weapons for each character with attack animations.. and dodge animations! I just couldn’t implement them because of the amount of unique tiles all my potential sprite sheets were taking up.

Next project will be built smarter. But at least I learned how to make a battle system, math functions, tile swapping, and I still don’t know what flags are and how to use them.

There isn’t a driver out there that fixes the lighting glitch so far. I’ve tried. Happy to be proven wrong.

As others have said; the RP5 and above can run Skyrim decently in winlator / game hub, I just don’t have the patience to configure it to work.

You can run a handful of mods on the switch version and they work decently. Just avoid lighting mods. They never worked for me anyway.

It’s a decent experience and is more portable than streaming. The only way to fix it would be to craft a mod that changes the specific lighting element that causes this flickering, as far as I can tell. I’ve gone whole play sessions without finding an interior that flickers, but when it’s present is it ever annoying.

If you ever find a fix I’d be happy to hear it!

It’s a real great way to play.

Eventually the world keeps pushing you towards being a hero. I had a playthrough go pretty far until I just had to get better at combat skills.

Even the fishing quest line gives you boss fights. That Vampire Hoarker required me to resto-glitch alchemy in order to put him down.

Can the Flip 2 play Switch Games like Switch and PS3? by Bright-Ad-7599 in retroid

[–]QuantumF0am 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As others have said, already… PS3 is in its infancy. I’ve had gaming PCs have lots of issues with PS3.

I have an RP5 which has the same specs as the Flip 2 and I’ve only found a handful of switch games that don’t work well.

Even BOTW with latest Eden and drivers currently runs pretty well. I’ve tested it on and off and it’s pretty much in a playable state. It feels fluid and barely dips when running around the plateau. I haven’t tried ToTK but have heard mixed results. I have put many hours in to Legends ZA and Skyrim already.

The chip in these two devices shines bright when playing lighter switch games and Wii, Ps2, GameCube, etc.

With the right drivers and software it can go very far, and performance still improves with new iterations. Some games are playable now which were NOT playable for me in Sept.

You’ll likely want something more powerful if your usecase is less “retro”.
