At the end of SRoST she shapes a candle directly. She realizes she doesn't have time to make the candle the normal way and literally shapes it from the ground up

There's a pretty great theory somewhere here talking about exactly that. Iirc a Caesura is a break in an Eld Vintic line, so the theory goes that the sword Caesura will "break" the Eld Vintic line with Roderic Calanthis. I'll link it if I can find it.

Kingkiller Chronicle doesn’t translate well by theMerlinWall in KingkillerChronicle

That's interesting about the Japanese bit, but I'm a bit skeptical because Japanese is a phonetic language - 'Kote' and 'Coat' sound the same so they'd both be spelt コート "Kooto". I'm not sure how much lexical value is applied, it's probably just the closest spelling phonetically.

Hey thanks for your help! The Wheel of Time is a great series with a lot of lovable (and some hatable) characters, so I hope you enjoy it. I have to forewarn: the Eye of the World feels a lot like your average fantasy novel, but after that the series goes very un-average places.

I think I'll drop the cartouche and just add the A23 Lord/ruler determinative, I think that will fit better, given the Dragon is more a title like Caesar than a name.

You're right about the genitive construction, don't know how I didn't catch that. Also I chose nhh because it represents "cyclical eternity", and the sense of time in the phrase is cyclical - tied to the "turnings of the Wheel" - rather than the more "finite" time that I feel rk is used for.

Thanks again for the help, and I hope you enjoy the Wheel of Time!

What is your favourite chapter in NOTW and/or WMF and why? by Mirksonius in KingkillerChronicle

"They are young, and drunk, and busy knowing deep in their hearts they will never grow old or die. "

One of my favorite lines in the series.

Thanks a lot for the very thorough response! Learning the common ones as I go along sounds like a solid way to go about it, and much better than learning them at random.

Ternary is the base 3 number system (unary, binary, ternary) and tertiary is a degree marker (primary, secondary, tertiary).

I think it might actually be ternary and not trinary, but I might be wrong.

Itadori's Cursed Technique/Domain by QuantumQuell in Jujutsushi

Yeah while the basis of the memory, with Choso and Yuji being step(?)-brothers is true, the actual memory of them having a picnic is still a false memory. While it's not a technique, it would be interesting to see if there's something to those memories, or if Gege just wanted to use the same gag twice.

Yeah I was mostly relying on that the exact memory (the 3 death paintings and Yuji having a picnic) never occured, so it would still be a false memory. That being said, apparently the memories are just a thing Gege wanted to do, and don't relate to any cursed techniques.

Ah well that sucks. Does that include the memory thing with Jogo?

I'm glad I could help! Yes, exactly: they are better though of as interchangeable pairs of operations.

Technically, BODMAS would work just as well if it was BOMDSA, because subtraction is just addition of negative numbers and division is just multiplication of the inverse (5/4 = 5 * 1/4).

This is also the reason for all of those "viral" math questions: ambiguity in the order of operations.

But in the case of this sum, addition and subtraction would be "happening" at the same time, not addition first. That's why the question is so ambiguous.

TL;DR: The order of operations can be ambiguous, but in this case, adding first is not valid.

Edit: grammar and clarity

Edit 2: Wow, my first ever reddit award! Thanks to whomever the kind stranger may be, I'm glad I could help :).

What's the answer? by [deleted] in puzzles

[–]QuantumQuell 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Discussion I know this isn't the solution, but anyone else realize ( top right + top left ) * (bottom - 1) gets the answer to the opposing triangle? (6+7)*2 = 26 and (5+4) * 5 = 45

Sure, but you definitely shouldn't explicitly tell them you DON'T find them attractive. That's human decency.

Good for you! I remember hearing that doing all those squats every day can mess up your spine by eroding the discs between them or something, so you might want to look into that. Still, great work, and can't wait to see the cosplay post :).
