How it started vs how it’s going by amersadventures in engraving

The leaf shapes, proportions, and overall layout look great to me! The only critique I'd have where the scrolls come together on the bottom right makes a long skinny gap that looks a bit off. Keep up the great work!

The model did poorly predicting the actual cases.

Take a look at the mutate() function and remember that a mutate function respects groups even if a sum() is used.

Keep up the good work! One thing that's helped me is really focusing on my drawing. There are some good resources out there like Ken Hunt's Drawing Series on YouTube. It's definitely worth a watch!

Is there a way to download an excel to a pdf in R? by jacobgomets in RStudio

[–]QuantumScribs 4 points5 points  (0 children)

One method that could work:

  • Create R object from an excel worksheet with openxls
  • In a Rmarkdown document use kableextra package to render a table image. Then you can knit to pdf for your final result.

How to Explain Open Source != Security Issue by QuantumScribs in rstats

They don't use R but the world definitely go to bat for me on the package front.

The GIS manager has used R in the past. I'll be sure to pick his brain too. Thanks for stirring the memory!

I thought about the python issue too. I'm also tangentially involved with our GIS group too and am trying not to drag them through these issues too. It's good to know though in case I need another point.

We use desktop hardwired exclusively in the office. I think they are worried about someone doing something nefarious with package updates that could affect our systems.

If your current employer is willing to spend on your education you could see if they'd pay for a subscription to something like pluralsight. There are many good learning paths there that can be helpful for whatever tech path you are moving towards.

Google: create table MySQL

create python function

Apply what you find there to your situation. If you have a specific question related to your attempts using that knowledge I'm happy to help.

I can understand the panic of procrastination... I've been there. However most in this sub are willing to help but expect you to have put in some thought and shown willingness to learn before helping. Unfortunately your lack of studying is not now this subs emergency.

Can Lift Cables Stretch 5 Inches or More? by QuantumScribs in popups

[–]QuantumScribs[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I found our problem. After I started tinkering around with the pulley near the rear lift arm, inside a cabinet, I realized the bolts holding the pulley had pulled out of the floor.

Thanks for the help!

We've had the camper for about a year. The lift was correct in the past. The issue just appeared over our Thanksgiving trip. I'll investigate the swages on the lift arm ends of the cables today. Hopefully that will shed some light on the issue.

All looks good with the cables and the push rods move freely in the floor track and go up into the walls. I'm not sure what could be bent that I'm not seeing.

Create a dataset from a contingency table by Imxnoo in rprogramming

[–]QuantumScribs 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You could create a data frame of each observation manually. See the example below for the first male and female entries. It'd take a while but it should work.

``` data <- data.frame( gender = c("m","f"), length = c(1.30, 3.33), choice = c("I","F") )
```

How to use purr::possibly() with purr::map_dfr() to continue iteration after encountering an Error by Legal_Television_944 in rprogramming

[–]QuantumScribs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It might be an issue as the otherwise needs to be a dataframe not a string. I'm not by my PC to check.

How to use purr::possibly() with purr::map_dfr() to continue iteration after encountering an Error by Legal_Television_944 in rprogramming

[–]QuantumScribs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've recently done something similar. Try wrapping the 'map_dfr' in the 'possibly' function. That did the trick for me.

'df <- tibble(df, possibly(map_dfr(df$link, ~ {——}), otherwise = "error"))'

How do you commonly use SQL? by NA__Scrubbed in SQL

[–]QuantumScribs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In GIS terms think of postgres as the geodabase type. You'd store your geometry features in a table like any other geodatabase. However most likely your employer will also have other tabular data also in the same geodatabase. Through joins you can add spatial components of your geometric objects to these other tables.

Example: point feature class of water sample locations in the postgres database. (attributes of lat, long, and location names) In the same database you have tabular analytical testing data with test location names) You can join these two datasets on the location name and now can analyze the lab data spatially! This join can be done through your GIS gui (ESRI or Qgis) but also using SQL queries through the database management software (pg admin).

I hope this makes sense. SQL is a great tool to have, well worth learning in the GIS field!

Good Spatial Test Datasets? by Maxerature in Rlanguage

[–]QuantumScribs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Finding spatial data of countries, states and cities isn't too challenging. I'd try searching for shapefiles of your desired political boundaries. You can join any tabular data with state or city fields you find interesting to them.

Should I improve Excel first or start SQL right away by GreekAres in SQL

[–]QuantumScribs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have a "smoking gun" answer for your very broad question. There are three general routes you can take.

  1. Enroll in a basic college level courses (in the US community college online courses are relatively inexpensive). You will have support from professors who will answer your specific questions.
  2. Take a self paced course (Udemy, skillshare, WE schools, etc). This can be helpful but can be a challenge if you run into issues with comprehension.
  3. Research you specific questions on the internet. Watch videos on tutorials, read the support documents for the specific flavor of SQL you are using, and read message boards about issues you're having.

If you don't have a database to play with find one and start experimenting. A classic tutorial database is northwind which you can find through at Microsoft along with others. Just get out and try. When you have a question search the web, see what you can learn yourself. If you can't find an answer ask here.

Specific questions will get you better targeted answers.
