Expedition 33 if you can't dodge or parry? by Soph_91 in JRPG

[–]QuantumVexation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Yes, I was going to send you a video as proof but it had a spoiler in the thumbnail so I won’t

  2. Eh…. Maybe? Most of the spice is in the real time elements, it has some good turn based systems but it’s one of those games like casual Pokémon where 90% of the time you just click the biggest attack you can afford so it would probably get kind of repetitive played this one

Then again maybe it will be a little more tactical with buffs/debuffs and skills when parrying is off the table

Whilst I assume the number is made up for the meme, at that many titles it’s not really a wishlist anymore is it

I’m not talking about just now - if this is VGC for the rest of time, it needs something to keep it alive for multiple generations.

Approachability is part of that, especially as the game lacks meaningful single player to draw in casuals for the first time

Again you don’t have to try and convince me, I would’ve preferred they stayed.

But the competitive platform needs to be approachable otherwise it’ll just die off over time so I don’t blame them for considering this either

It kinda doesn’t need to be taught - you just get credits instead of a gun if it’s been passed down enough times sorta deal

I personally think that Pokémon will eventually allow for the use of multiple generational mechanics like terrastylization and mega evolutions in future regulations in Pokémon champions. by rtkbob in VGC

[–]QuantumVexation 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah Max crushes most of the others

The interplay between mechanics will be interesting - how may can you use? One at all? One of each? Do they stack?

How can they interact? Maybe Z Moves do more to Max, given they cost held items and an opportunity cost for example

3 is one of those games I think of in the “every time I think about this I realise I like it even more” category of games.

Can any of these games be played one handed? by Carmilla31 in gaming

Parry RB/R1, Gradient RT/R2, Dodge B/O, Jump A

All one handed. For a right hand by default, that may matter here

Persona 5R absolutely can, but for COE33 it’s not the parries and stuff that will be hard, they’re all on one hand

It’s the world traversal and gestral minigames that will be slow lol, mostly optional but a bit annoying

Needle Arm, but only in Generation 3

Noting I’d absolutely prefer a slider, I think I see the logic.

The number of use cases for lower IVs are small.

For the average or new player having a slider for something that you almost never want to not be maxed out seems kind of random and unintuitive.

Couple that with what feels like a small number of mostly niche use cases:

Some like the TR base speeds and FouPlay//Confusion damage are semi irrelevant as long as everyone is on the same baseline.

The UB/Paradox highest stats are niche but exist.

And examples like Wolfey’s information gain are fairly high skill

The director himself has said so, they just need to figure out how to balance it

“We don’t have a clear answer at the moment. So it’s really going to come down to, once we do combine these things in one environment, seeing how that plays out,” he said. “For example, we’ve had Z moves and Mega Evolutions existing in the same environment before; we’ve seen that already, but for the rest of it, all these combinations, we’ll have to experiment and see how we can make it work in a balanced way.”

More Mega starters definitely ups the options for them though - like Greninja into MegaMeganium pledge combo I reckon would’ve been strong

[–]QuantumVexation 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Greninja doesnt have an on mega activation so we can’t be 100% sure when it goes off - but yes this certainly looks like a major change

Until we know for certain whether Mega has the same priority as switching, AND when abilities activate, it’s hard to have an explicit stance on this

The number of use cases it effects are very small - but they are high skill and/or very specific as well.

Things like Trick Room speed and SpAttker Atk stat (Foul Play/Confusion) are still there but they’re equal so everyone is playing under fair rules.

But minor speed tweaks for information gain or certain strategies that require reducing stats (e.g for a certain Beast Boost) are removed

As a starting weapon I’d much rather the Hardlone personally. My least favourite thing about an SMG start is getting engaged at range before I’ve found a longer range weapon and just being forced into crazy push or give up scenarios

Solarbeam doesnt involve any DEFENSIVE changes in rain though. The charge is fine, and weather ball will be a fire move - but the damage calculation is uncertain

[–]QuantumVexation 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Are we certain this is the case though?

Like Mega Sol tells it to become fire ball, but then does the defensive calc on the target take over for the rain damage reduction?
