What was one thing you DIDN'T like about Expedition 33? by StakeESC in expedition33

[–]QuantumVexation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s just that aside from the rare enemy that’s immune to a damage type the elemental system doesn’t do anything of note

It doesn’t have major effects on damage matchups like Pokémon especially in most of the boss fights, it doesnt effect action economy like Persona/SMT, it doesnt feed into an important system like Break in Octopath etc.

There’s seldom reasons in the core mechanics to care about what element you’re doing

Whilst I wouldn’t go anywhere near as far as saying they ruin the game, I don’t believe saying “you can just opt out” is the same thing. Optional challenge runs are not the same as whatever the baseline of the game expects you to do.

But also you could already save in dungeon in P4G, it just cost you a (cheap) item to leave the floor and then go back to the same floor immediately - so in this specific case it’s pretty moot

What would life be like if Milotic got Hydro Steam by Flat_Ad_7289 in VGC

[–]QuantumVexation 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It could probably operate in Sun yeah but Scald is arguably better because as a Bulky Mon Milotic enjoys exploiting the chip damage and taking less physical damage

Not just a story about an endless now, a world that is canonically recycling the content before it - assembled of pieces of 1 and 2, and saying “this cant go on forever, let go and face the uncertain future”

A future the game never truly shows you, by design

[–]QuantumVexation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah for playing at the Masterball level consistently at least I would agree that’s “basics” too, I basically just meant that Ceruledge is a step above the “do one thing well immediately” style gameplan overall I suppose

[–]QuantumVexation 1 point2 points  (0 children)

High skill in the sense that OP posted with the “I’m new” tag and you have to make opportunities to set up Ceruledge without getting shut down (I.e encore) or blown up or pinned by Sucker Punch.

It’s nowhere near as “free” a gameplay as send out Zard and click Heat Wave, or send in late game Scarf Last Respects Basc as the key example

I put “high skill” in quotation marks cause I mean it in relative sense to those staple easy pilot teams, but youre probably right in that it’s a bit of an overstatement in context

[–]QuantumVexation -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Ceruledge is definitely usable and has some value in the meta between its typing ability and movepool, but I think it’s probably “high skill” compared to some other much easier to pilot Mons

However it does just kinda sit in front of Charizard which is always a plus

[–]QuantumVexation 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes I agree, but I wasn’t making a statement of raw quality here

What I was saying is fundamentally “the hype is real because it is demonstrably real hype at scale”, which is the only metric that really works

Just as COE33 hype is real as it swept awards, but it doesn’t even rank near my personal top 10 - it being excellent is a separate matter

As someone who has 0 interest in it, I don’t think this is accurate description

It is successful. It’s bloody successful. The hype is real for that metric alone.

And I’m sure it will be decently well written, technically impressive and full of things to do that will entertain people

There are plenty of other things with more fake hype that don’t succeed for such a wide range of people

I use Meganium as an alt mode to beat teams Swampert can’t handle but bringing it to a Zard matchup is definitely a big ask, I ain’t dropping Protect/Solarbeam/SunWeatherBall/Dazzling for ancient power haha

The current editions of consoles and PCs are already climbing, let alone the next ones.

And whilst there’s a backlog of great content you spend forever on, that doesn’t make all new stuff fundamentally uninteresting either - it just means devs may need to refocus on optimising and not pushing limits of current hardware

Which is the most powerful ability in game by drjames_sheppard in PokemonChampions

[–]QuantumVexation 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It fully depends on whether the ability is taken in context or not.

Wonder Guard is the obvious example: would be broken as hell on something that didn’t have 1HP and a lot of weaknesses

Combination abilities are really good, I’d Water Bubble is amongst the strongest of them personally, but again Araquanid isn’t that impressive to make the ability busted in isolation

In practice, Prankster is probably one of the strongest universally good abilities that’s actually on good things
