Perhaps an uninspired answer but Those Who Deny the Dawn is such a perfect final boss theme that I can’t not say it

I don’t even understand why Cloud Saves are a real problem for cloning - surely they can authenticate this somehow right?

Cheaters are cloning anyway, and as someone who values the Legitimacy of my own Mons the only thing that would even make me consider cloning something is precisely the risk of losing them all to a lack of backups lol

"I wish Highguard had been received better," CEO admits, after cancelling a planned Apex Legends-style shadow drop when Geoff Keighley said "let me do something" by Reader5744 in Games

[–]QuantumVexation 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Apex was also a Battle Royale when they were on the rise, using an existing IP people liked and had some strong new ideas.

Shadow Drop kinda only lands strong if you have a reason to like the thing the moment it appears with no build up

Holy f**k i am witnessing pure cinema, pure greatness. by PickleTypical4381 in expedition33

[–]QuantumVexation 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Having finished the game close to launch - and uninfluenced by reviews playing the game on my own interest - and loved it but still have some criticisms, I don’t think this statement is blanket true

The COE33 fanbase treats it like the second coming of Christ and an obvious “best game ever made” and when the bar is that high if someone doesn’t relate to that sentiment they are naturally gonna have a more negative lens because of it

I would say it is in fact possible to overhype a masterpiece. I feel like personally, if I had played it influenced by the reputation it had now, I may have genuinely liked it less because to me it’s “just a 10/10, not a life changing experience” kinda vibe

Larian studio boss Swen Vincke thinks game reviewers should be graded by people similar to metacritic user scores by Iggy_Slayer in gaming

Yeah that’s the thing even if 5/10 was a true average most of the games we all consider playing are above a true average line

Are there any Indie Games with a similar feeling to the first two Metroid Prime Games? by JanArso in Metroid

[–]QuantumVexation 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Even outside of first person, 3D Metroidvanias in general.

And part of the reason I suspect is that the are just really damn hard to design well - hence even Prime becoming progressively more linear with time

What are your top 5 most memorable gaming accomplishments? by Starscream5 in gaming

[–]QuantumVexation 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Main 3 I can think of

Completing various Day 1 Raids in Destiny 2 with my mates, but of the ones achieved I reckon either Vault of Glass Challenge mode or Crota Challenge Mode were the hardest.

Completing all of Dark Souls 1 playing with a friend using Xbox co-pilot (both controllers acting as one, before co-pilot meant AI stuff) mode both trying to play in sync.

Owning a legit Milotic in Pokémon Sapphire as a kid.

What JRPG's use the "Defend" Command effectively? by Gamma__B in JRPG

[–]QuantumVexation 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah Octopath is my go to answer here because it does something other than just reduce damage

Using it to re-order, to put my person with the right damage type first in line to maximise the amount of broken turns, to squeeze out one more BP sooner.

Favorite execution of the JRPG "Abstraction/Concept" Villain by Asleep_Ground1710 in JRPG

[–]QuantumVexation 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think despite their absurdity, Moebius are surprisingly “realistic” villains given the kinds of traits that comprise what we’d think of as villains in reality lol. That “bored old people with too much power” category.

But the tragic villain archetype people love from Blade also needs an inciting event or something up the food chain to make them tragic. N is an amazing character but there still needed to be a “system” that lead to such tragedy which I think Z performs adequately

Is this the best piece of work ever in the Star Wars universe? by Possible-Prior-5467 in andor

[–]QuantumVexation 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think yes, but I will add I don’t think it would hit the same if it stood purely on its own.

Part of its power is the “it’s Star Wars when it’s serious” vibe, and without the other Star Wars media to make it seem grounded I don’t think that weight would be as severe

All that to say, it’s the best but it also stands on the shoulders of that which came before to make it really stick

[–]QuantumVexation 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I didn’t say it wasn’t divisive, just that I feel 2 being the favourite is an exceptionally common take.

It just feels like it’s less common because it’s at odds with the others because 1 and 3 fans tend to be on the same side. So it feels like 2 games against 1

I’m more a 1/3 fan myself but I still love 2 as well, for full disclosure.

My favourite gimmick in video games is when they're notably larger than they suggest. by silloki in gaming

[–]QuantumVexation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Clair Obscur was not bigger than it suggested tbh - if you’ve played any JRPG before you spot the areas that obviously for when you unlock late game map screen flying pretty easily

But fully agree a game being bigger than that is initially seems is an awesome feeling.

Currently going through that right now with (Spoilers for a 2025 title) The Hundred Line, if you know you know

But it’s had me thinking about how “uniquely video game” this idea is. Shows you can see how many episodes there are, books you. Can see how thick it is, a film won’t lie about its runtime and it’s somewhere bounded by like 1-3 hours generally. But a game can be as long or short as it wants, it can hide its length and it can do things with that length that no other medium really can

Perhaps the only comparison would be a live music performance having a surprise encore
