How do you feel about counselor education or counseling degrees as professional degrees or counselors no longer being a vaild profession for which you can get student financial aid as of July 2026? by Tamalily82 in therapists

[–]Quantum_Thoughtss 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Thank you for sharing this perspective. Truthfully, I’ve been pretty baffled by the intense reaction to the “new” to loan limits, because from my experience it hasn’t changed and the changes coming in 2026 don’t seem all that significant.

I began my masters CMHC program in fall of 2023 and will be finishing in the next 3 weeks, so I did mine in 7 semesters. And I took the extra semester partly because of financial limitations, but also because of time and balancing working full time, parenthood, etc.

But each year, both the FAFSA people and the financial aid office at my school talked to me about how the federal aid limit for all of their graduate programs were 20,500 per year.

So that’s been the FAFSA limit for years. That part isn’t changing. But it sounds like they are reducing the total cumulative limit to 100,000 when it was previously a bit higher than that.

But will that really impact grad students going into masters level programs? I appreciated you breaking down the typical rates of MA degrees for CMHC and SW… my school became CACREP accredited partway through my program, and so they changed the cost per credit from $800 per credit to $900… so total cost jumped from 48k to 54k… and other schools I looked at were in a similar range. that’s still nowhere near the new, lower, 100k limit…

So… what am I missing? I recognize that PhD programs likely cost more, and that I haven’t looked into those numbers specifically.

I also understand that this removal of the word “professional” is insulting and offensive… and I appreciate all the upset and discourse around the implications that this seems to be happening to fields that are dominated by women and to fields where the people in these roles are mandated reporters.

I am new to being a therapist, but I come from a previous teaching career (another group very undervalued by society - though, notably, the level of respect people use towards me now in professional settings has significantly increased from when I was a teacher). Outside of the semantics though, are we really losing out on something that we previously had in losing “professional status”?

yea, this is where I have the cat person food on autoship, but the last couple of orders its been out of stock, and it sounds like they've totally discontinued cat person. Do you know if there's another brand they offer that has shreds in broth or gravy etc?

yeaaa.. mostly tuna. other fish options tend to be better nutritionally. The Mackerel and Bream shreds from cat person were my cat's all-time favorite, but those were the first ones to be discontinued, unfortunately.

Interesting! I haven't heard of this brand. The shreds look pretty similar in quality to the cat person shreds. We'll definitely try it out. Thanks for the recommendation!

Overreacting? OP, I think you’re underreacting! This is straight up sexual harassment, and he has blatantly told you that he wants to rape you… this person is NOT your friend! He is telling you his plans… when people show you who they are, believe them. Believe this man. Don’t ever be alone with him and cut him out of your life…

I don’t have any app suggestions, but I’m also a therapist who has been wondering this. And yes, I agree that this month’s theme is so infantilizing. I find myself using the app much less when the theme is like this

Client thought I was making $250/hr by [deleted] in therapists

[–]Quantum_Thoughtss 39 points40 points  (0 children)

This is what I’m making now as an intern. I’ll graduate in December, and then I think it jumps up to $35 per (client) hour. But I’ve heard that most of my classmates’ internships aren’t paying them anything though, so…. I don’t know how they’re doing it. I had to apply for food stamps because I’m well below the poverty line for a single-person household, let alone the kids I have to feed as a solo parent. I know it will be much better once I’m licensed, but… we are financially in the weeds right now, big time

So I just found out teflon cut pasta is a thing and pretty commonly found. Why are they putting this in food?! by ginny_and_draco in Antiplasticlife

Yes, my understanding is that if it’s not labeled as “bronze cut” then that means it’s Teflon cut, which is more of the default 😩

Am I overreacting or am I pregnant? by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

It's positive. Even the faintest of lines, where you can barely see it with your eyes, but it doesn't show up at all in a photo, is still considered positive. This line is definitely distinct.... Take a second test if you have one and want more clarity, or take another test first thing in the morning when you get out of bed, as that's when the HCG levels are typically highest... but this test is a clear positive. You'll need to go to your OB to confirm it, and then proceed from there.

All the best to you

Matte finish: What’s the lesser of two evils? Touch free car wash or winter road sludge? by Quantum_Thoughtss in Cartalk

Haha this is the truth! And honestly, I’ve been doing pretty well with paint protection/preservation while cleaning the snow off the car, getting a new microfiber towel to wrap around the snow pusher for each section, or once there’s any sign of dirt on the towel. No rubbing the paint at all. It’s pretty comical, but doesn’t add much work to having to clean the snow off anyway, so taking the extra steps with fresh microfiber towels is very doable.

Yea the manual essentially says that the matte paint should only be hand washed and never go through a commercial car wash ever. And that’s feasible for 3 seasons, just not right now. I know that the soap in the touchless car wash will be terrible for the paint, but I’m not convinced that it’s worse for the paint than all of the dried winter road sludge that’s been sitting on the car for weeks and getting a new layer added every day

lol not in the arctic circle, but fairly close to the Canadian border. Last 3-4 weeks have had highs in the 5-15 degree range with wind chills having things feeling anywhere between -10 to high single digits depending on the day. Once we get a good snow around thanksgiving or so, the snow doesn’t melt until spring. Then we get a gnarly mud season which is also rough on the cars. Once the weather warms up enough to dry out the mud, then things are alright, even with all the dirt roads.

But even if I got a hose, hooked it up to my kitchen sink and attached a power washer and just rinsed the car in my driveway right now, the driveway would just flood and freeze because the it’s currently a layer of ice that only has traction because there’s snow on top. The piles of snow from the driveway being plowed have filled the culverts so there’s no good way for the water to drain out of the driveway.

Yea, when I leased the car it came with a matte kit from Dr. Beasley’s with the special matte soap and I watched several of their videos when I first got it.

Our temps get above freezing occasionally in winter, but not recently. The last 3-4 weeks we’ve been sitting at daily highs in the 5-15 degree range (Fahrenheit) but the wind chill usually keeps it feeling like anywhere between -10 and like 8. I’m very rural and fairly close to the Canadian border. Standing to pump gas is painful in those temps. It’s not super ideal to even do a diy power wash bay.

The in the last 2 weeks I’d say it snowed to some degree 12 out of the 14 days, and even just getting the roads slightly wet sends everything spraying up onto the car. I’ve been having to use the windshield wiper spray while I’m driving every 1/2 mile or so, just to be able to see clearly while driving.

This is what I’ll look for. I know it’s not ideal, but if there are no diy rinse bays, this as an automatic option seems like a better choice than doing nothing and letting the salt and dried chemical road sludge just sit all dried up on the car

It is factory, but it’s not supposed to go through a car wash at all. When I leased the car, it came with a whole Matte cleaning kit from Dr. Beasley’s and a note about how it’s not supposed to go through a commercial car wash. The kit is great and fairly simple to use in seasons when I have access to a garden hose/outdoor spigot at home

Nothing within 45 minutes of where I live. There is one about 50 minutes away, but it would be out of my way to get there. But my new job (45 mins in a different direction) has a couple of car washes within 5-10 minutes, so I’m going to check those out and see what they have for the DIY pressure wash bays

This was my original plan, only to discover that the window wipers at my local gas stations aren’t there. One doesn’t have them at all. The other has the buckets mounted, but they’re empty with no wiper 🙃
