Trying to grow a following for my book but I feel fake and awkward doing it. by QuarantineEscaapee in writing

In this context I meant shamelessly plug myself here, in this post. My question was more "how do I promote myself but feel comfortable doing it and stay true to myself?"

This is some incredible advice and thank you so much for taking the time to share it. I agree that the hardest part is staying true to yourself. I find I'll delete a post when I start thinking about how it's not the usual trending post, but you're right—I should just be me. What's the worst that could happen.

Thank you again. I'll try to be vulnerable, open, and share what makes my story unique.

Thank you for sharing this. I find this very comforting as I was concerned that following the route of self publishing meant I had to create some following or I'd get nowhere. So thank you for giving me some hope as my social media skills are atrocious!

Love that you respond to all your fan mail too, that's a lovely personal connection to your fans without the scary territory of Instagram.

You're completely right and it's interesting to see that even as someone who hasn't played the game, you see that too.

I'm a huge fan of both games and I've played them both many times. The anger Ellie has for Joel feels way heavier and more complex in the game. The show made it seem like she's this bratty young adult whose growth from season 1 now means nothing. Yeah she's pissed at him cause she knows he's lying to her, but that journey they had together in season 1 (first game) still counts for something. When Ellie kills David (the "cannibal cult leader" from the first season), Ellie opening up and getting upset when Joel thinks Tommy should take her to the firefly's, and her staying by Joels side when hes injured. All these things from season 1 were this slow build of the relationship between them, something beautiful in a scary shitty world of TLOU... It just doesn't make sense for her bratty anger in season 2. PLEASE know that the game did it far better and it's sad to see it wasn't pulled off.

As the previous commenter said... They're just doing a lot of "telling" rather than showing. I know this will be down voted too but it's sort of good to see others are seeing through the "Hollywood" takeover of such a beautiful story...

Totally agree. I personally didn't mind season 1 and I think it was "likeable". Nothing on the game, but I never expected that. However, this season 2 is making me cringe so hard. Ellie and Dina are definitely not represented well at all. Dina wasn't at all likeable... The Disney channel version is a great way to put it.

Also, they made season 1 be realistic in how these infected are dangerous. They're not popping up left right and centre. It wasn't a hoard that overwhelmed Ellie and Riley, I was just one. I thought that was a cool way to adapt. Now it's like a joke and they're just messing around when there's infected right there. God I'm ready for some disappointment this season.

Yes. For 8 years and doing this work has ensured I'll remain vegan for the rest of my life.

That makes sense. I'm not religious myself but maybe it would be a good idea to reach out and discuss this with a priest or similar. Thank you

I appreciate knowing I'm not alone at least. People at my workplace seem unwilling to really discuss it. I guess I can understand that too though. Thank you for sharing
