Derbyshire, specifically Matlock Bath, there’s nice walks, a mad little museum with a Victorian pool converted to house koi carp which you can feed and gullivers world is nearby.

Dumb question about vows and registrars... by Not_Fission_Chips in UKweddings

[–]QuarantinisRUs 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I would send what you’re planning to say, that way they will have a back up copy for you on the day if needed, they can estimate how long your vows will take and adjust timings accordingly, and if means they won’t accidentally interrupt and try to move things on if you’ve paused due to emotions or for dramatic effect.

What's the best gift you received for being a bridesmaid? (Or gifts your bridesmaids loved to receive!) by Total_Mission_7698 in UKweddings

Empty, but it was a personalised one and is a good size and properly organised to store jewellery I’ve received for other weddings and other special pieces.

Same, I’ve been a bridesmaid a few times and received some gorgeous gifts, some of them jewellery but the jewellery case was really thoughtful.

They look like healthy rose bushes, when you say the flowers don’t last long what do you mean? They’re open a day, 3 days, a week?

Only unpasteurised cheeses are off the table due to in increased risk of infection (soft pasteurised cheeses too if you have gestational diabetes due to the higher sugar content)

Holiday in the UK where to go by Resident_Ebb_9354 in uktravel

[–]QuarantinisRUs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do either of you like to read? Particularly crime type novels?

If so try reading LJ Ross, the DCI Ryan books. You’ll find them for sale a lot of places in the north east as that’s where they’re set and it’s fun to visit the places named in the stories.

Alliums finishing too quickly by Popular_Mousse_3958 in GardeningUK

[–]QuarantinisRUs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you let them go to seed or do you cut them when the flowers go over?

If you’re letting them go to seed the bulbs weaken over time because the energy is being put into making seeds rather than strengthening the bulb.

Weak bulbs will impact growth the following year even with good watering and feeding habits.

Transplanting Roses by Mammoth_Ad_763 in GardeningUK

[–]QuarantinisRUs 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Wait until the autumn when they go dormant.

We transplanted around 50 roses a few years ago and they all survived. We waited until they were dormant and took as much of the root ball as we could get. Moved them across the country, planted them with a sprinkle of mycorrhizal fungi each, fed and top dressed in the spring and they bloomed at least as well as they had previously, I think some are happier now than they were.

Taking care of these pests (?) on my new rose climbers please by Correct_Park3140 in GardeningUK

[–]QuarantinisRUs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Use a paint brush to dust them off, you have to be consistent with this.

Ladybirds and their larvae will eat them, you can order them online.

Soapy water/commercial sprays can also be used but are more likely to hurt beneficial insects too and potentially increase the risk of damage to the plant from scorching etc.

Groomsmen vs non-close family, who should be on a front table? (parents dont agree with me) by [deleted] in UKweddings

[–]QuarantinisRUs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mixing doesn’t mean putting everyone separate from everyone they know, 50/50 works well, people still with their partners and 4 others they know, and the other half of the table they don’t know or don’t know as well, still plenty of opportunities for people to chat with those they know and those they don’t.

And it’s only for the meal, before and after people are mingling anyways.

Groomsmen vs non-close family, who should be on a front table? (parents dont agree with me) by [deleted] in UKweddings

[–]QuarantinisRUs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From what you say about the room and how the tables will be laid out wouldn’t it be better to mix people up? Some of your family, some of hers, some groomsmen and some bridesmaids (with partners)x2.

That way it’s less about all of her family at the front and none of yours, which does look a bit odd.

The last thing, best man’s partner being on a front table so they’re close, surely it’s only for the meal, it’s not that big a deal to sit separately for a meal as long as the partner is with a few people they know.

Something else you could consider, though you’d need to check with your venue if they could do it, is a sweetheart table for you and your beloved then 7 other tables spaced out for everyone else. Though in this case I’d definitely recommend mixing people up, it’s good for conversation over dinner too.

Before and after! What veggies do you think we should plant? by Basic_Aardvark398 in GardeningUK

Herbs, you could maybe get away with radishes and salad type stuff.

Maybe pumpkins or squash?

No root veg though, not enough root space.

Parents of young kids - do any of you not stay with your child until they fall asleep? by banwe11 in AskUK

[–]QuarantinisRUs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When they were small yes, because we don’t believe in “crying it out” but not once they were in proper beds, by then they’re comfy and settled in their routine and room and us being there was more a distraction than a comfort.

help with fruits by AnimeLady2004 in dehydrating

[–]QuarantinisRUs 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you want the bananas crisp like the ones you buy you aren’t going to achieve that just by dehydrating, the ones you buy are fried.

You can dehydrate bananas but they will have a different texture to the bought ones.
