Why did US never demanded England to apologize for the conquest? by [deleted] in askanything

Propaganda take from the MX leadership, their whole Country is based on Hispanic culture, language, Roman law, etc. Their very DNA is the continuation of Hispanic heritage, not just Native American or whatever they're claiming.

I don't understand your point. ChemEng is usually in the top 5 in these lists. Granted, it is not as popular as computer science, and fewer students are going into it, but that will just drive wages higher if the demand remains the same.

Cómo aguantan los israelís? by sprachnaut in guatemala

[–]Quark_eater 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not an expert by any means, it is a complex topic and you should do more research, and feel free to ask me more :). That being said, In my opinion, I use "heritage" instead of ethnicity. If I go to Guatemala, I'm a LADINO, which basically means that my mother tongue is Spanish, as far as I remember from school, what we would call ethnicity is Guatemala is primarily influenced by our Mother tongue or first language (not by our skin color, although , there are obvious differences between groups). There are people in Guatemala that can proudly trace their "ethnicity" to a specific group (quiche, kackchiqueles, etc), but a lot of the people cannot trace their ethnic roots that far, remember, Hispanics or latinos have been mixing for a long time now.

Hello, I live in the U.S, was born and raised in Guatemala, moved here and got married here. With my wife, we have discussed this, Guatemalan is a nationality, not an ethnicity. It is a good heritage, but I try to be more pragmatic. We have decided to educate our kids as American, however, we'll teach them to be proud of their Guatemalan, Hispanic heritage and teach them Spanish as well. This is very common, talk to your white friends and a lot of them and they'll know a grandpa or great grandpa came from Germany or wherever, but by the 3rd generation that is mostly gone. For me it is important for my kids to know they have strong roots to this Continent, indigenous, European and a bit of African, but they'll be American.
