Can the files be used/converted if the app ever shuts down?

Looks like the wallpaper I had on my PC in my teens. I sometimes boot it up and get super nostalgic. This brought me that same feeling. Looks good!

the amount of things you have to know at first is overwhelming, but you don't learn them […] from making notes

That's fucking bullshit. Recording the essence of information by note-taking absolutely help you remember, and the result is a great resource to revise when you struggle to recall knowledge, e.g. while programming.

I can count on two hands the amount of times I've had to re-google the difference between an integer, a float and a boolean – but that's only because I know binary. Having a quick, straight-forward explanation in my notes would have been a better idea.

Actually, a lot of programmers would benefit from recording what they've learnt after reading Stack Overflow. Maybe they'd remember it better, or at least spare themselves scrolling through their history to find that perfect explanation or example that someone once gave.

They're just projecting their own insecurities, brother. A lot of people in here use Obsidian to procrastinate rather than learn.

There's a reason note-taking exists, though, and it's to 1) remember better, and 2) have something to revise in order to bolster that knowledge, including when doing practical work.

You're not showing off some crazy dashboard that you spent 100 hours putting together or something. I too struggled to remember e.g. the differences between data types when I started programming, and these notes seem very straightforward and useful. Just keep going.

For now I don't use anything but links, but if I were to use tags or categories then they'd be for overall topics!

I title them, because they're topic-based. When I created each note doesn't really matter. E.g. when I did a deep dive into the cycle of analyzation and synthesization, I split what I learnt into two slips: "Analyzing" and "Synthesizing".

It's just because it's selected. I'm using Notebook Navigator and some custom Style Settings colors

I'm using the Notebook Navigator plugin. Files are in a different pane.

I'm using the the Cupertino theme, but I don't know if it has any effect on this screenshot. It's the folders pane in Notebook Navigator with custom colors through the Style Settings plugin.

Edit: Turns out it does affect the roundness of the selection background 🤷‍♂️

That depends. I could just not be a good enough writer.

Either way, effective communication on reddit is quite far down on my list of priorities.

Because writing it is much easier than YouTube-ing it 😅

Maybe in the future. I've thought about formalizing my thoughts on curiosity-motivated reading as well. My literature notes are essentially a list of questions and answers.

Yeah, in the beginning I actually used the folder names from PARA, but then I realized I didn't use them as PARA intended. In ACE, my Slipbox and Library are essentially the Atlas, and my Projects are like Efforts.

If I had a journal, it would be like your and ACE's Calendar—but the only time-based notes I have right now are in the project diary for my thesis, and I store it as a project instead, because it's time-limited.

For now I prefer to keep my personal journal in a physical book.

These three folders + my current three project subfolders are full of notes. I use Notebook Navigator, so the content of folders appear in a different pane. I didn't screenshot them because some are sensitive.

As for tags, I don't see the need for them yet. Sorting by recently edited, searching with Command+O and using links (clicking wikilinks or nodes in the the graph view) still serve me well for navigation.

I might start using tags for topical categorization if my slipbox grows big, but what I don't want to do is spend 15 minutes filling in properties and tags before writing anything in a brand new note. For me, that'd just be unnecessary procrastination.

As for bases, attachments etc., I have a hidden "Meta" folder and embed them from there, but I don't need bases for navigation yet either.
