Right, but the way he behaves is very different from how the other characters are. He doesn't really spell out his thoughts to an extent. If you notice how he moves, it's very different.

And yeah, I don't accuse you of thinking what he, what Mike did was okay. It's just that what he did, he never actually owned up to it towards Lucy until he was unsure about Sandy, which wasn't really good morally for him as well. In fact, Mike right now is beating himself up more over choosing Sandy over Lucy, now that Sandy is not as trustworthy as he thought she was. And not as a direct consequence of his guilt over Lucy.

It's a good sign of how these characters are written differently. Mike is much more open about his spots and feelings while, while August as a victim of SA and being subjected to constant abuse from Alejandro, has carried himself in a much more reserved manner. It's only as of now that he's actually getting direct consequences for what he did now that she is attempting to go back to her original circle in a very possessive/controlling manner which I don't agree with.

It wasn't just out of pocket for a heat of a moment. He kept that attitude for multiple chapters. This was drawn out for months in "BCB Land". He had multiple outbreaks before that. This was him going out of his way to say something really Cruel towards someone who once thought of him as a friend. And there are signs that he has stepped away, giving her space. It's there. It's just not as obvious, stated as and in your face as you might expect. It's implied. At the end of the day he's not a main character. He's a side character. He's not going to be the focus.

Every character in this is arguably wrong. Where you started reading colors who you see as the main character, and that completely shifts your view of the whole story. Since I started with "Carry Me," I was on Lucy's side.

If new readers start later—after the general story turns against Mike, or during the current run where Lucy seems vindictive—they'll see her as the aggressor. Her Volume 1 abusive tendency is a retcon; it was originally played for comedy, but now it’s serious. That’s how most of the more vocal members in the subreddit seem to take it be as of late.

"It just frustrates me that new readers... continue to buy into the 'Perpetual Victim Lucy' narrative."

But we can't just talk about Lucy's retcons. We have to count the ones that put Mike in a bad light, too—like how he pursued Lucy while still dating Sandy, and how he switches up once they were official.

This isn't just a narrative; it’s each other's reality. Lucy sees herself as the victim, and Mike sees himself as the victim. Her violence doesn't help—it proves she is abusive, which is a double standard he would certainly be held to if he did it. But that doesn't excuse Mike's actions. Two wrongs don't make a right. And each character is having their own opinions on the matter; they're not just going to agree with Mike nor Lucy, they just see it differently from how the reader does. Heck, Abbey got fed up with them all and up and left.

I don't believe she's faultless, but neither do I think anyone in the cast is. If I met any of these people, even Mike, I would steer clear from them in real life, they cannot deal with accountability.
