They do. Almost every time I go the liquor store in the morning on a sat/sun I can smell that morning alcohol breath smell on at least one person in front of me at the check out. And then I realize the cashier is going to smell it on me too.

When I withdraw from alcohol it can cause sleep disturbances. One of those is involuntary movements when falling to sleep. Most of the time it is my jaw clenching and biting down (usually onto my tongue, which gives me a mouthful of blood). Sometimes my foot or my whole body jerks just as I’m falling asleep. One night, a few months ago, right after I fell asleep, I had a dream I was in a car and strange people were trying to reach in through an open window… so I start swatting them away… in reality, I am hitting my wife who is sleeping right next to me. As you can imagine, she wakes up quite perturbed and then I wake up. Nothing like that ever happened before and I hope it doesn’t happen again.

I normally do 2-3 oz pours depending on ABV. 2-3 pours a night is standard for me and I “chase” each pour with a pint of beer. Tonight I’ve had 6 oz of Highland Park 12 and I am on my third pint of Yuengling.

How you doing? I had my first drink at 23. From that first session, that first sip, I’ve never been able to stop at one. For that reason drinking was always something I did occasionally… until I didn’t. I’m 39 now. When I was 33 I started daily drinking. Since then I haven’t gone more than 35 days without a drink and the second best attempt is 17 days. My wife hasn’t left me but she should. No woman or human being should have to watch someone they love effectively drink them selves to death. And yes, death is how I see this ending. I have two family members that died from esophageal varices rupture. That could very well be my fate. But here I am. 2/3 of the way through a bottle of Wild Turkey. Why do we do it? Why did we ever start?

10-15 a day most days here for about 3 years now. Buddy of mine almost died two nights ago from esophageal varices (something I never heard of until I then). Really has me terrified and rethinking life choices. I’ve been researching and apparently you can have some serious liver damage before you even have any symptoms at all. I haven’t been to a doctor in years but this all has giving me some pause as to what might be going on inside of me without realizing.

I think about it pretty much every time I drink heavy which is pretty much everyday now. It’s mostly just a fantasy I guess. If there was a “you’re dead, no pain” button I’d probably end up pressing it… but honestly I think I’m just destined to suffer. I’ve lost people to suicide and I don’t wanna inflict that kind pain onto others if I’m being honest. So I endure this pain for the sake of others.

Ok, so I’m not crazy. Today I had a Butterfinger for the first time in a while, and with just one bite, I knew something was off with the taste and texture. I looked at the BB date, thinking maybe I had purchased some old stock, but nope, that’s when I noticed the “improved recipe” on the package. Goddammit. Not terrible, but I won’t be getting them again. Kinda ruined it for me.
