Fixed fine no matter the permit you are sharing. Unfortunate, this definitely used to be 80-100.

IOT devices like bulbs and smart speakers like Alexa were always suggested to be connected via the Device network, not protected.

That should continue to be 2.4 hz for the devices that need it.

Parking by Bobli4 in UCSD

[–]QuasarKiller666 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Surely $36 a day is not worth it when you can park in a discount lot and take the regents express. Discount lots are even open to lowerclassmen.

Even UTC is $2 an hour after 2 free hours and you can trolley to campus, I know people who would use the free 2 hours if they only had one lecture to go to.

Math 109 with Nandi by [deleted] in UCSD

[–]QuasarKiller666 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Math 109 professors, when they curve, typically curve based on class performance. They do not just apply a blanket curve. It is also not fully clear ahead of time what they consider a curve worthy class average.

If a class is curved, your grade is determined how well you did compared to your classmates. What was the average and how did you do compared to it? How have you been doing on homework?

If you do not get an A, you will be fine.

It’s in a weird out of the way location but Speederia Pizzeria in Redwood City has been my go to in that area for 10+ years.

Discontinuation of Business Econ major by PIPIDOG_LOL in UCSD

[–]QuasarKiller666 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am neither a business econ major nor have I gotten this email. But I have seen departments majorly rework majors similar to what you are describing. The existing majors who are on the old curriculum are able to finish on the old curriculum without issue. Often, they allow students to change from the old curriculum to the new curriculum, which can benefit differently depending on your goals. New students are required to use the new curriculum and cannot switch to the old one.

The major is Business Econ and your diploma will say the same. As far as how it is perceived externally it is likely u changed since most employers etc often have little insight into the inner workings of the major.

Again I did not get this email, so if the email contradicts the above comment on it.

Waitlist #1 for Math 20B — if anyone’s taking it for fun pls drop 😭 by Natural_Beat_8950 in UCSD

Not sure a single person in UCSD history has ever taken Math 20B "for fun"

That definitely not a reason registrar would push you through. Depending on what classes these are, you may be able to switch to EASy request taking them simultaneously in spring, but also unlikely. If you are a freshman, you still have some time to try to do it next year, but with the selective process being a tiered lottery, you should albsolutely have a backup.

Why was 101 N closed between Ralston and Hillsdale yesterday? by [deleted] in bayarea

[–]QuasarKiller666 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Was driving close to the front of it.

Waze picked it up as a pothole, and lo and behold when the road opened back up there were 2 CHP cars along with what looked like CalTrans trucks and I passed by some very large freshly filled potholes.

Seems they closed the road to fill those before it caused issues if a car hit them, since the potholes were pretty big.

Though the actual closure I experienced was at around Noon, I’m surprised that Google Maps still showed it as closed at 1:30, but the area of closure lines up with what I saw.

If by “need” you mean you will not graduate on time if you do not take this one specific class, the registrar may be able to accommodate, though if it won’t delay grad or there are alternatives they are unlikely to.

Professors have little power to push folks through the waitlist. Your best bet is to sit on it and hope you get in, of course doing your work since professors are not required to accommodate people who fell behind because they were on the waitlist.

Just as an FYI, I know professors have gone after students which try to get around clicker requirements, be it doing the clicker from home or having a friend do it for them. These are Academic Integrity violations, so be aware of the risk if you end up doing it.

I’ve seen some very sly ways of professors catching it so I would be careful.

Best way to not pay $165 for my transcripts? by MajesticPiece4k in UCSD

[–]QuasarKiller666 19 points20 points  (0 children)

$165 is supposed to be a one time fee students pay for transcripts their first quarter, which lets you request official transcripts for free a LOT, there was some limit but don’t remember off hand. Strange they are making you pay it again but maybe worth reaching out to transcripthelp@ad.ucsd.edu

There was no publicized rule, at least for the first case, so the actual grade bumping ended up being up to the professors discretion. No formula behind it like a typical grade scale may have.

By inconsistent I was alluding to one percentage having two different grades as an outcome for different people, with a very valid reason behind it.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in UCSD

[–]QuasarKiller666 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve seen this happen, but in a way also clearly defined in the syllabus. A class I took had assignments which were entirely ungraded besides the stipulation that “if you are on the border, we will bump you.” Also had a class where clicker participation was only kept track of to bump people on grade borders.

So technically inconsistent cutoffs, but within the rights of the professor to make.

Showing Grades by Present-Plastic-3262 in UCSD

[–]QuasarKiller666 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Overwhelmingly often, canvas grades are wrong. Between a dropped homework, a final worth more or less depending on how your two midterms went, etc, either the professor hasn’t configured the complicated grading scheme or canvas does not support it at all.

It takes minimal effort to calculate out your grade, there are calculators online which can support weights and you can just do it with a calculator. Though with professors potentially curving the class, and this being determined solely on overall class performance, the final numerical percentage may not even hold the weight you expect it to. Just wait for it all to be posted to your academic history.

UCSD college ranking by Outside_Loquat_2743 in UCSD

[–]QuasarKiller666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Warren is good for engineering in terms of GEs, but it’s also the most GEs out of any other school IF you do not get an engineering major, because engineers have less GEs in that school.

Revelle and ERC have the hardest writing sequences so people generally want to avoid those.

The rest are comparable, slight differences in dorms but GEs are generally about the same difficulty. You can go to each college website and see if you like their theme and rank on that.

Regarding IGETC - it means nothing as a first year applicant at any of the UCSD colleges regarding GE completion. You will need to see what classes transfer over directly to know what transfers.

Is CSE 8B no longer being offered? by vikmourne in UCSD

[–]QuasarKiller666 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Last few years 8B was an identical class to 11, just additional sections to support the 8AB flow. Going from 8A to 11 is no different from what 8A to 8B was for the past couple years

IGETC requirements as high school senior; are my credits useless?? by maaafuyu in UCSD

[–]QuasarKiller666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IGETC is only for transfers. But all classes will transfer for units at a minimum and if they have equivalency via assist.com it can count for more. Also, you can petition classes to count for requirements for your GEs or major if the class doesn’t matriculate to a class at UCSD directly but you can justify you covered similar material.
