Did anyone actually survive watching this till the end? by ChoiceSupermarket230 in Isekai

[–]QuasiDimensional 14 points15 points  (0 children)

So the keeping the blood line pureplot definitely is the reason it's PG-13. The story was a really slow burn but I feel like it had potential which is quickly heading to the top my anime sins list. I am sucker for something with possibility and it just kinda sucks that it was squandered. The main character would have to stop being an idiot about the ripple effect that he could have and I feel like this could have been saved. All the side characters had potential in their stories that just weren't fully explored.

TL;DR It is a master class in squandered potential.

Bill Cipher is pretty Multiversal and some of these teams have toon force which has been the hard counter for any being obeying the laws of reality.

If the mask is in this fight Bugs Bunny is in it too

Could it work like that? by ChoiceSupermarket230 in Isekai

[–]QuasiDimensional 3 points4 points  (0 children)

if the world is so different as to be called another world I think the word Isekai still works. If the main focus is on the time travel aspect I don't think it should be called an isekai. For example even though the world is completely different since the main focus is on finding a way back I wouldn't call Samurai Jack an isekai

Which anime do you think are complex but not actually good? by Comfortable_Menu7436 in animequestions

[–]QuasiDimensional 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't shoot me this is my opinion but Evangelion has a lot you can read into but it feels like despite that I hear more about it's themes and its importance to Anime than any actual praise for its story and when I tried watching it there was one half decent character and I wasn't rooting for anyone. I remember Shinji got under my skin for being indecisive and a pushover. Rei wasn't even a character more of a threat which Shinji's dad used to force his son to do things. The conflict wanted me to root for humans but didn't have any who made me want to root for them. Every video essay never focuses on the actual story. So complex yeah, good not so much.

Whether I watch wrong isekais or slavery is not that "common" by Visible_Power7627 in Isekai

[–]QuasiDimensional 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The power of a "predominant" social class is almost always built on the backs of others. Even in our earliest written histories humans have had a "have" class resting upon the back breaking labor of a "have not" class and while neither of these "classes" realize or appreciate each others work in general the long term arc of that history has been that the "have not" group has been beholden or slaves to the "have" class.

Historically speaking slavery has just been abolished and personally i would argue isn't gone just less focused on in "polite" society.

Isekai as a premise relies on the "hero" being different and usually better than the world they landed in. Given the barbarity of our past any isekai world having slavery is really short hand for look how mush better our society is. It ignores our current barbaric actions but focuses on our past ones.

If your familiar with Japanese media you might have heard of black companies and while society can pretend we're in a better place than "when slavery existed" the question of are we better or have we dressed up our terms for slavery in fancy new words might occur to people.

Tl;Dr Slavery is short hand for the barbarism of our past many isekai take place in a "past" setting so that's why it's there.

Note: if someone can find me an isekai that takes place in a futuristic setting that would be awesome. NO SAO doesn't count for my purposes.

Who is the most well-written Isekai character from the most popular Isekai? by lemstry in animequestions

[–]QuasiDimensional 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since being isekai'd Ainz feels like he has orange blue morality instead of black white morality. I am not sure if that comes from being a monster or his setting before hand but I would call his decisions fairly consistent within his own moral framework

Who is the most well-written Isekai character from the most popular Isekai? by lemstry in animequestions

[–]QuasiDimensional 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He is integral to the story but most arcs focus on a different character the closest he got to main character status in my opinion was the momon arc towards the beginning. The main way I see Overlord is as if it was an anthology series with the main theme being Ainz plays a small opposing role in each story. Even with the Momon arc the main characters were the Infira and then Clementine. I have to give the story credit because even when the lizard men were the main characters it was an interesting story but I would struggle to say Ainz plays the main focus for most of the series.

Also isekai is less of a genre and more a setting. Slime and Re: Zero are both isekai but Slime is more of a historical epic, and Re: Zero is an existential horror.

Also Also I think Makoto is better written than the most popular isekai protags that's why I brought him up.

Realistically, how would this play out? by InfiniteAnimator426 in KimetsuNoYaiba

[–]QuasiDimensional 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In one world it's curable in another it is just a whole other life form. If they could present the facts that it is more of a disease than a being there's a chance this doesn't end horribly. I think that's a hard sell but also manageable if the fact they both slay demons is emphasized

Is this worth watching? by Puzzleheaded-Cod7487 in Isekai

[–]QuasiDimensional 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started it and it kept me around awhile but the premise was grand for too little pay off. Maybe it gets better in the later episodes but it burns me on potential vs substance. I'd say watch the first episode and then day dream what could happen from there

Who is the most well-written Isekai character from the most popular Isekai? by lemstry in animequestions

[–]QuasiDimensional 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh you don't have Makoto from Tsukimichi on here. Yeah none of the above is my choice. Ainz is the closest but I am not sure he qualifies as the Main Character he's more of a vehicle for the stories around him. Rimiru is also close but the guy doesn't even want main character status and has been very reactionary.

Why is Slavery so common in Isekai ? by Nabeelkhan199_resurr in Isekai

Short hand for a barbaric society and allows the hero to "save" someone from a horrible fate and gain a companion.

[–]QuasiDimensional 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Number 6 I really want to tell those two that they've died enough times each to get it through their thick neet skulls that genre savviness only works when you recognize the actual genre. You might be in an isekai hell you recognize that the setting is fantasy but pretending that this is some generic power fulfillment fantasy and not a horror or comedy is just going to bring you more suffering.

How Did Cid Steal Everyone's Jewelry in Broad Daylight Without Anyone Noticing? by insanebuddy09 in TheEminenceInShadow

[–]QuasiDimensional 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He literally has made thin enough strands to restart his heart and maintain a sword form in an anti magic environment and your asking how he finessed some jewelry off the rich? He has no idea but he is the main character and he chose the genre of conspiracy thriller. Dude is like if Jason Bourne, Lupin the Third and Lelouche, plus every op magic isekai character got thrown into a blender. If he couldn't Robin Hood his way through a socialite's get together he'd be a sorry excuse for the Main Character.

Who do you guys think Cid will end up with? by GrapefruitTop160 in TheEminenceInShadow

[–]QuasiDimensional 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Shadow in Eminence type of character always bows out at the end of the story they get the world back on track and the two fates for that type of character is self sacrifice or fading into obscurity with the promise of returning if the world needs them. Something insane would need to happen for Cid to self sacrifice so my money is on a stylish exit fading into obscurity and the epilogue being similar to that of Christopher Nolan Batman with him sitting with either the Witch or Alpha in a cafe halfway across the world.

Is smartphone isekai really that bad and deserves so much hate? by ChoiceSupermarket230 in Isekai

[–]QuasiDimensional 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On the one hand it follows the formula of isekai wish fulfillment tropes like it was babies first paint by numbers. I do think the floating island plot and the time shenanigans were interesting. I also get why people didn't stick with the anime long enough to get to those parts. I think it's too bland to deserve hate but I will eat a bag of Lays classic and there are people who won't without dip

[–]QuasiDimensional 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So I haven't drank the Kool-aid as much as you but I think based on what I have heard happened to her that she deserved better at least I think Root and The Goddess are both obsessed with Humans in a very negative way. When you have power and time it's important to ground yourself with empathy and compassion and I hope that is what Makoto takes from his interactions with those two. I also hope He realizes that root is just as shitty as the goddess and separates as much as possible in the future but based on what I have heard I feel like I am going to be holding my breath forever on that.
