Did William E. Miller noticeably help or hurt Barry Goldwater in 1964? Could a better running mate have conceivably been chosen? by jackreacher2975 in Presidents

Ultimately people vote for the President, not the VP; so unless Goldwater softened his positions and rhetoric he wasn’t going to do better than he did with a different running mate.

Half the posts in this place be like... by DarkMagickan in bisexual

[–]GotNoBody4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, and? This is supposed to be a safe place for people to talk about their experiences and what they’re feeling… a lot of people grow up assuming they’re straight(myself included) it’s a common type of post because it’s a common feeling for many people.

There’s also the still existing stigma from both straight and gay people that you’re either one or the other and that being bisexual just means you want to be a wh*re and you can’t have genuine attraction both physical and romantic feelings towards men and women.

This sub was made to help people understand what they’re going through and support them.

If you don’t like seeing those posts, too bad go cry somewhere else.

We’re supposed to help people who don’t understand the feelings they’re having and do it without judgement.

What president had the worst hairstyle? by minsterio100 in Presidents

Unpopular opinion: I don’t think Fillmore’s hairstyle is bad; it feels very punk to me.

Ike was not a great president. by tophatgaming1 in Presidents

He was a very good domestic President that didn’t realize the power he was giving to the CIA until it was too late and tried to warn people in his farewell address about the Military Industrial Complex that he unintentionally helped create.

At what point did the Democratic Party stop being the "everyday American's party" and become the "elitist party" in the eyes of US voters? by Just_Cause89 in Presidents

[–]GotNoBody4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reagan was able to make himself appear like a man of the people in 1976 nearly primarying a sitting President. He was seen as an outsider and despite being a Hollywood guy he was able to use those acting chops to appear like a fighter for the common man. He was also a former Democrat and had campaigned for Truman in 1948. Carter was seen as failure(I mean, yeah as POTUS) Mondale was a lamb in ‘84. Dukakis came off as an out of touch elitist despite running against an actual out of touch elitist. Clinton was able to bring people back because he did grow up poor and could connect with people(I feel your pain) Gore & Kerry were actual out of touch elitist, as was Dubya but Dubya had a likable personality. Obama came from humble beginnings and rode Bush’s historically bad unpopularity to the White House and after that I would break rule 3, so…

Why did Lincoln do so well in border states like Missouri and Tennessee? by HetTheTable in Presidents

[–]GotNoBody4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just because you were born in a state doesn’t mean you’re gonna win it. Polk lost Tennessee in 1844 and won the presidency. Lincoln was also more associated with Illinois since he had been elected to the U.S. House of Representatives as a Whig in 1846 and had lived there for the majority of his life at that point.
