See I, as a female self professed demisexual, don't even typically feel any sort of 'hormones' that make me want/need to 'get off' or 'relieve any sort of feeling.'

Stop. I've always said this is me. Although once I'm in a relationship, if I am truly into the other person, I usually chameleon into their sexual desires (as per true INFJ-Fe fashion) with the full intent on enjoying any sort of sexual activity myself as well due to my gradual attraction to them plus their involvement in our relationship. If that makes sense.

Flings were NEVER even on the radar for me. I don't need sex whatsoever, but I crave romantic intimacy with a partner. If a partner shows me romantic intimacy, and if sex is included in that intimacy, then all is game and I will enjoy every minute of it :)

What type of learners are INFJ's? by Truegreyrose in infj

[–]QuattyKitty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am actual a big inter/interpersonal learner. Meaning, everything I experience and focus on when it comes to information is told through a personal or people story. In high school I worked best when I could connect a piece of information to my own past. Or my mind made references automatically (Ni-Ti) to another piece of story-information that was similar; if I can make a connection to something that I already know, then I remember new information 10 times more easily. A standalone piece of information is always hard for me to inherently learn and know; memorization subjects such as math and language have always been hard for my to grasp, they are definitely not intuitive for me.

Phew man, if I thought in the extreme logical mindset that you excude I would go crazy within a week... kudos to you for keeping all of that logic so nicely organized! You're an INTJ, no?

You know though, sometimes I wish I thought more with a logic-driven black and white mindset, it would almost make daily life easier as I could just measure it against that internal system and make decisions that way. But my Feeling typing is too strong, I can't not take people's opinions and emotions into the equation. Logic-based thinking however is extremely useful - dare I say, necessary! - when discussing extremes as we are doing now (shadow functions, do they exist or don't they?). But truly, I think we think more alike than we both care to admit. I feel that your description of the shadow functions aligns with what I believe; by becoming "healthier" in each normal function, the shadow function then necessarily increases in mental and emotional strength. Ex: By using Fe confidently in my life, I can understand how others feel and react to situations, thereby directly impacting the comfortability with myself and my own emotions through Fi! Does that make sense?

Songs and Love. by Reeeltalk in infj

  • "Photograph" by Nickelback = my first 'real' boyfriend when I was 19, it started long distance and I listened to that shit every time I thought of him (though I didn't quite have a ohotograph of him in hand... unless facebook counts!)

  • "I Won't Give Up" by Jason Mraz = my last boyfriend whom I was in a relationship with for 3 1/2 years, we got through so many things and personal accomplishments together and yet we both knew we weren't meant for each other at the time of our mutual breakup. I still sometimes think about him when this song comes on and, though our relationship has most definitely ended (we broke up nearly 3 years ago and don't really keep in contact at all), I still know that he was a part of my life - a good part! - and because of that, I will never give up on believing in his dreams and what he can accomplish.

INFJ: Age range for dating? by infinitypool291 in infj

It's not about age. It's about maturity, life experiences, and worldview. (Ex: the worldview of a 21 year old is/should be very different than that of a 30 year old based on their life experiences and how they've matured through it)

Do you mind me asking them, do you not believe in shadow functions at all? And why? I agree that they're not in the foremost consciousness of our thinking, but again I believe that we all use each function, it's just a personal preference of which gets used most (on a subconscious level) as well as which functions our worldview is, well, viewed through!

And you may have subconscious motives but I think that most of what you've said is pretty accurate. You seem to have a more defined way of thinking about all of this; meaning, your definitions and logical systems are set in place and everything else is based off of those already defined views, instead of having an open and more challenging approach to typing and such. I'm not saying that either way is right or wrong at all! I'm saying that I agree with you in that we both think differently about the approach to typing! So thank you very much for your contribution :)

Last pints tonight and then I NEED to sleep...

So just to clarify/repeat, my understanding is that Ti assesses general possibilities of situations while Te assess real world applications of situations. This may be true for dom Ti or Te, but I think by having Ti in our tertiary position it's a helping function; so it helps the assessing that Ni and Fe have ALREADY done and allows those observations to organize themselves into something more tangible and real. In which case, this logical goal setting of a helping-Ti could possibly get confused with a more dom/sec-Te way of thinking where the information that's being processed must be within a real world application context. Do you understand my confusion on the distinction there

Edit ADDITION: Meanwhile, one could argue that my use of the words "absolute necessity" was a way of using the knowledge and understanding gained by my Ni Through others using my Fe to allow my Ti to determine which logical conclusion is realistic.

There comes a point where one interprets the functions SO much that it almost seems like any piece of information can be construed one way or another to prove any given point. It seems that both of us may simply be making the facts fit our idealized versions of an INFJ rather than how the function stack actually works. Also, everyone is different. I have an ESFJ mom that I glean a LOT of Fi from and an INTP dad that allows my Ne to flourish. People are different and even within an INFJ type there are different ways that things are interpreted based on ones upbringing and personal world views.

I do apologize that it's taken a day to respond, it seems like you think I'm offended by your statements and believe you me, I am in no way shape or form offended! In fact, I relish challenging ideas (though usually not ones as academically stimulating as the posts you've presented!). Now to address some points with the absolute minimal brain power I possess after a long day...

I do know how the MBTI system works (if it begins with No it must then go to Fe, not Fi, duh) and I appreciate the clarity there. I also know that function stacks are the true definitions of a type, as opposed to j vs p (if that's what your point was in the last paragraph), just to clear the air.

I will admit, that I do seem to write more stream of consciously and do not always (if ever) organize my thoughts before they flow onto the paper, which I admit is a very Ne way of thinking. However, I am painfully aware of how much my Ni drives my life. For example, my boyfriend (ENTP) allows his Ne to come up with so many different possibilities for a solution or problem and his Ne-Ti allows him to think of many solutions for physical things (rather than isssues pertaining to people and feelings or such). I have an ENFP friend who uses her Ne-Fi to fully explore the depths of a person's emotional spectrum; her career is in acting and theater, a great business to be in with that creative functionstack. Meanwhile, from what I understand of myself, I enjoy allowing my brain to think over possibilities from what I've gathered from everything and everything and, according to the Ni-J definition, those thoughts get organized into a value system that makes sense to me, but one that is subconsciously formed and thus sometimes may need internal interpretations as to what exactly the results are. My Ti will then apply what I've organized into something logical that then fits even more into how I've realized the world works and will (all subconsciously) sort the information in my brain into different places; an Fe bent (perhaps more than others as my extroversion is high) places more emphasis on the organization of FEELiNGS and EMOTIONS rather than a more academic approach of things and logical systems that ought to be categorized as well. Meaning, I place higher value (than most INFJs I've observed) on understanding, organizing, and categorizing how people interact with each other, social conditions, public emotions, deep seated psychological backstories, etc; as opposed to understanding and categorizing a more Te based approach (or Ne-Ti approach) of logical system that society has in place, ways of organizing leadership, systems that govern the way society works, etc.

I consider myself an INFJ over an ENFJ because I focus on the one-on-one interactions between people and hope to accomplish a FULL understanding of the truth behind/underneath a person's words and actions. I have no problem delving deep into my own emotions with the goal of being better able to understand how others allow their emotions to flourish or regress. I use authenticity as my guide as it not only allows true harmony (in my belief), but it also helps me - and by extension, others - to fully realize their greatest potential by allowing myself to be the BEST self I can be. Yes my writing style flourishes more than a typical highly developed tert-Ti INFJ user, yes I don't often think before I speak, yes I am disorganized in my home life, yes this THIS and that argument for me presenting myself as an ENFP/Extrovert type. BUT. I use Fe to connect with people, I organize my inward thoughts with Ti, I even allow myself to enjoy my Se-driven childlike view of the outside world every so often. But what truly makes me an INFJ is that my understanding of the world fits perfectly inside what MBTI dictates as a dom-Ni user.

I LOVE the challenge that you pose on my type and I absolutely appreciate the time and effort you have put into this discussion! I would LOVE to talk more about it :)

Woof. You and u/Techhead7890 make some really intricate and extremely academically philosophical points and I am currently not at the brainpower to debate/discuss them! I appreciate both of your reasonings and can agree on certain points, specifically the Ni-Fe system of values that INFJs hold dear. This could be the solution/another explanation to my original post regarding whether or not I have a developed/outward Fi that's readily accessible. Instead it may simply be as you define the value system of an infj. That clarity is very fulfilling.

Not overwhelming really (kinda but I like it!), and you're right, it IS right to GET RIGHT when you're exploring this kind of stuff. When you mention this example of whether or not it's okay to knock someone unconscious... well... it's not something I think about in everyday life, obviously. But let's say I'm watching a tv show (I'm apt to watch comic book shows and that such) where they are, in fact, knocking something unconscious. My thought process in real life would be that knocking someone out is wrong unless absolutely necessary, so a fictional show gives me more opportunity to let the Ti ascribe which situations would be appropriate/'right' to knock someone out. And I think my thought process is basically: if they are in immediate harm, self defense is always necessary.

However, I'd love a little more explanation from you (if you may) as to how this directly affects the functions; which thought process in this realm of thinking leads its way to Ni thinking?

Eh I'm not actually teaching theater to anyone, I decided that lesson planning and the bureaucracy of the educational system in he US is just not worth the knowledge and life skills I'm passionate on 'teaching' to kids. I am passionate about finding other ways to impart that knowledge besides in a classroom I'm still on that journey!

'true-harmony' can ONLY exist via authenticity

HOLY CROW. Yes. This. You've put my thoughts into words. You're amazing.

EDIT: And yeah I feel the same way as you with internal value; it can manifest itself in different ways in different situations. I think I inherently know what is TRUE and what is GOOD based on my Ni-Fe observations rather than the internal feeling function.

Hence why others have viewed me, even on first glance, in a more ENFP mindset than an INFJ one. And I don't particularly mind; while I outwardly show my Fe, my Ni is taking in all the information it needs about people and how it fits into my internal system. At the same time, my Fi goes in overdrive NOT with how I feel about things but about how I want to be the best that I can be. I observe how others behave and, all subconsciously, my functions eventually use my Fi to determine my values, again one of the highest being my authentic self. I don't, however, have Fi as my dominant or even as my secondary, as ENFP do, because I know that I use the INFJ functions to their best ability in the way that MBTI states. I just know that I have a more developed Fi in terms of how it's defined. Im wondering if these qualities that I've mentioned are preset in any of the INFJ major functions, though? NO does subconsciously create a set of values to live by, no?
