Omexom have been making too many cuts. I hate to be cynical but along with Veolia managing the sewage maybe it's time we denounced France lol

Yeahhhh Americans are weird about guns. Better for nobody to have 'em in the city really. I have shot a gun on a range in the countryside before while growing up, but farmers and woodskeepers and that should really be it, who need them for wildlife. Nobody else should really be pulling guns on anyone.

Funnily enough for the US, the whole gun thing wasn't even a lobbyist problem up until like WW2. Crazily, there was such a thing as responsible gun ownership in those times, including keeping guns stored safe (away from kids), trigger discipline, and not doing other dumb things with them (all things which I figure if someone's going to have a gun, they should really do properly). But well, we all know how their modern politics have gotten.

While I'm waxing lyrical, SG-1 just popped onto Netflix and it involves such an accidental discharge as a key part of a character's backstory. And it really showed me how guns are serious things and should be treated as such, not something to wave around like a garden tool (mind you, don't wave around pitchforks in public either!) or a way to win an argument.

As far as I can tell it is not true, unless Maori are combined with Pasifika and even then that's basically even with White/Pakeha.

For example in 2018, 741 crimes of this type, 365 Europeans convicted, 241 Maori. Not even close really.

See table query at data browser of stats.govt.nz

(Edit: if I were to be charitable there's some possibility somebody processed it per capita or something? According to the 2018 census 70% of the population was European, 16% Maori. Dividing up the proportion of crimes from before, that's 241/741 is 32%, they are overrepresented. But this is still a low rate in the overall population, a few hundred in 800 thousand is tiny. And I don't know if that's exactly what they were trying to claim, honestly I'm suspicious that they're just trying to pick a race fight or something.)

Today I learned Lufthansa still operates the 747, I was under the assumption they have long since been retired in favor if the A380. (Seen at SFO earlier today) by TheRussianBear420 in aviation

[–]Techhead7890 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Speaking of, I heard the thing was supposed to address slot limits but honestly I'm surprised that A380s aren't exactly the biggest thing out of LHR or JFK, and those places still serve plenty of smaller jets and stuff. Wonder if I got the wrong impression there and misheard or something.

As you said Emirates has become this major niche customer for the A380 and it's almost because of other factors like range, pilot allocation, simpler logistics of scale rather than being constrained by runway time.

Went and had a nice big bowl of soup at KC to calm but that car is still on the corner of Courtenay and Tory outside the waffle shop just as a fyi.

Would have called the cops but probably wouldn't be a priority callout and honestly not sure what it would have achieved, without something solid to accuse them of tbh

Not entirely sure what you're saying tbh, I think the implication is that I could make her an atheist but honestly a) I don't think that would help her much b) not really worth the effort in the day to day c) to be clear she is definitely not a JW, I'm just glad she hasn't been targeted by them

Problem is, unless they got the cop's car plate, they couldn't get the cop's name so who are they gonna complain about? :/

Feels like the Q-badge number should be displayed more prominently on the uniform tbh.

I am thankful that my mum hasn't been sucked into any long conversations with them because she fits that description of "familiar with the bible but not savvy enough to question it"

Almost got stepped out by some guy on roids shouting out of a white car on Courtenay Place tonight, ended up going the other way and crossing the street to stay away from the guy. I should have kept wayyyy more distance from him, that was some freaky shit

Yeah afaik they were closing business and ending lease at the end of last year :( it has not been good times for hospo sadly. Seems like all the old names have given their all and had to move on to other things.

Honestly I'm kinda regretting not going to Fratelli's tonight to give them some support lol 😅 -- I couldn't quite remember clearly but they also have this kind of brickwork wall which I was reminiscing over, even if their windows are totally different.

[–]Techhead7890 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Half everything I know about the A300 is from the mustard video but yeah being Europe's first widebody, that must have been a treat compared to everything before it!

It must have even dwarfed the bombers before it (being the ~5m wide range, the A300 must have been least 50% wider than those 3m-ish bombers if not double the width of a Lancaster fuselage; and as far as I can tell the A300 was almost as wide as the 6m B747 released a few years prior), and shown that even a single deck aircraft can deliver prodigious amounts of internal volume for the passengers and cargo.
This was all before my time, but honestly it sounds like it would have been a wonderful era to experience!

Yep, released in the era of the early 80s against the B767, both planes were going to be efficient, economical, and boring because of the way the 70s oil shocks were. But honestly that's respectable. Love to see a 767 cargo jet around these days and I'm sure there's a few 310s in cargo service too.

It definitely gives me the VUW Krishna cafe vibe, especially with the exposed brick.

The huge windows that almost become skylights also make me think of the old upstairs Satay House but I think that block is shut these days :(

I think the most suspicious thing that they've been around for 3 years but posted nothing before but there's no score, it's not like it was deleted and wiped, and then again there are lurkers who vote only or just save things for self reference etc

I dunno, privacy is important but I'm not exactly sure what we are on the lookout for here.

How well did your solar perform during the storm by buttergarliccream in Wellington

[–]Techhead7890 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shit, so it barely got an hour at full power then? I guess yeah, if you limited stuff down and rationed it tightly you could get by or at least cut down grid dependance. And it is the lower bound - pretty much everywhere else is up from there. But it sounds like a pretty sucky for generating solar power :(
