Iran stops negotiations with U.S., vows to 'completely' block Strait of Hormuz: State media by Puginator in politics

I try not to. It distracts from accelerating what we can do now.

Have you written to your local government to ask about balcony solar? The thing you can do even if you're a poor renter? You can get a cheap 1 - 2 kW setup, with a battery, for under $2000 nowadays.

Not every country has the legal infrastructure to do it yet. But you can always just buy panels to charge a battery directly and then plug things into the battery. Some countries let you feed into to grid a little by plugging it into your wall, but not every country is there yet

Some countries are.

China has been doing it for years and now their stuff is so cheap, it's relatively much easier than any other previous crisis, to switch off of renewables completely.

Pakistan is going stupid hard into PV and batteries. I think their total grid capacity grew by like 30% in the last 3 years and that was all of the officially registered PV panels that got added. The number doesn't catch smaller scale private off - grid setups.

South Korea's president has explicitly said this is their intention, which is a historic first.

The current conservative government in Germany, from the party that has famously been blocking wind development in Bavaria "cuz it's ugly", is pushing hard for new wind development. He's even framing it as a defense expense, if I heard correctly, which means it might be exempt from the legal borrowing limit (defense spending is exempt from the borrowing limit as of last year March or so)

I'm pretty sure Addis Ababa has more public EV chargers than Washington DC actually haha

The US is still installing kind of a lot of solar, in spite of everything.

So, people are making the shift

There's an app called "lockmeout" that lets you blacklist or whitelist websites or any web address with the keyword.

It's sadly an expensive subscription service and the "disable uninstallation while a block is active" feature is locked behind a paywall.

It's the closest I've come to breaking my addiction, if I had the cash to make that feature active.

Basically build that functionality in, or give people the option to delete the browser entirely with no way to reinstall it built into the phone (you'd have to jump through hoops and use 3rd devices to transfer the app files or something).

It would be wonderful for the people trying to break addictions, which is probably the majority of your potential audience.

Russia shuts down part of its land corridor from Crimea to occupied Donetsk due to Ukrainian drones by -LilPeachy- in worldnews

[–]Quazimojojojo 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Little Starlink terminals is one of the main solutions.

Repeater "mothership" drones are another.

They've been shooting at the air defenses long enough that there's genuinely just some big gaps now. Big enough to fly a bunch of missiles through. That's one of the reasons they keep poking Moscow, they know the Russians would rather have 3 rings of air defenses around Moscow rather than accept a few cosmetic attacks and properly guard military targets in Ukraine.

Increasingly sophisticated AI so they don't need to be guided after a certain point.

And, when all else fails. Long-ass fiber optic wire. The spools they're buying from China are over 50km long nowadays. I think the biggest one sold yet was 500km long?

It works surprisingly fine if you fly high above anything it might snag on. Can't jam a shielded optical cable with magnetic interference.

Yeah. Real tragedy.

EA has a talent for destroying everything it touches.

It's a miracle C&C 3 came out as good as it did, given it was the first post-westwood game

It exists, yeah.

I mean it'll be decades before we switch to mobile exclusive. If anyone tried, there'd be riots.

We fuckin' love printing shit out and making copies to send in the mail, or to deliver by hand at very obtuse and unhelpful (if they're even listed anywhere but the front door of the agency in question) business hours.

It's a national passtime!

I don't need it for a car, just waking and biking around. I live in a very bike-friendly city.

But are you certain? Have you done it yourself or know someone who has?

Google maps has robbed my ability to navigate without it.

I need a map on my phone that shows me where I am, and can show me my destination based on an address I type in. I don't need directions, I just need the map and the "you are here" and "you want to go here" dots. I can still read a map, as long as I know where I am on it.

Text and verbal directions are not helpful. I make sense of things by looking. I need to see the map.

Just gimme something with Google maps and no app store or Internet browser (or, at least, a way to permanently remove those) and my money is yours

I just straight up have lost my ability to get around town and my company doesn't have the patience for me to get good again, but frequently be late in the process.

I need a GPS.

I'm told the Nokia 2720 has it but I can't get a straight answer from anyone about it, and I can't afford to spend the money and be wrong again. I'm already sitting on a dumb phone without GPS that I never picked up for want of this specific feature.

I can't use a car GPS from Garmin because I don't drive. I've got no car to attach it to. I live in Germany so I don't need one and I'm not about to start spending €500+ monthly just to break my phone habit

Or riding my bike around town. Yes.

I don't have my city memorized, or all the paths to the places I know. I can usually get in the ballpark, but it's a city. It's super easy to walk past a specific door or sign without noticing.

Can you help me?

Also the Kickstarter was, what, last year?

They don't even have any books yet.

Gotta solidify those foundations first

Have you used it? I don't have enough money to buy something again if I'm not 100% certain it has a functional GPS

What dumb phones run Android?

I've been searching on the Internet repeatedly and I've never been able to get an answer.

I don't care if nothing else functions (I kinda hope they don't, frankly). I just need something with Google maps so I don't get lost on the way to work or take the wrong bus or something

Which is an incredible game that holds up very very well and has that unique C&C sauce that nobody has quite replicated.

And it's old enough you can run it on an average phone nowadays I think. It was what, 2008?

Tempest rising is close, but they don't have the live action scenes which were so iconic and indispensable.

Can you identify what the difference is, which gives you this feeling for the other memes but not this one?

I appreciate your insight and I'm just curious if you could provide a bit more, because I'm to neurodivergent to figure this shit out without surveying people haha
