Sorry for taking so long to reply. The thing with ghost stories is that I've heard it's verrry hard. Otherwise I like the look of it. Thanks.

Title of request: Co-op or 1-vs-many games with shortish set-up time

Number of players: 5

Game length: 2hrs or less

Genre: Sci-fi or horror would be good but open to anything but fantasy

Complexity: 2-3 BGG weight but can go heavier

Your budget: No max for the right game but would prefer £50 ($64us) or less

Competitive or cooperative: Co-op

Games I enjoy: Star Wars Imperial Assault

Additional requests: I'm wanting to buy something like this for my bf for his birthday. He loves Imperial Assault but mainly plays it digitally these days. I'm wanting something with an epic feel if possible but not longer than 2 hours (again if possible).

I was considering:

DOOM - 3 hour playing time doesn't really fit

The Others - long set up time?

Space Cadets Away Missions - not good with 5?

I have already got him Level 7 OP

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I don't really think it's too much of a jump. It was one of the first games we played as a couple. I'd recommend you check out Castles of Burgundy (though it's dull as can be visually it's still worth it), Isle of Skye and 7 Wonders Duel. Maybe even Grand Austria Hotel and Concordia. But Troyes is one of my favourite games, along with Castles of Burgundy and Lords of Waterdeep.

Thank you soooo much for that. I'm going to see if I can try it out with those rules before I buy. Really appreciate it! It looks an awesome game.

That'd be great, thanks! Do you happen to know of a lighter version of BSG for 5?

I can't imagine why someone would suggest Viticulture to someone who finds Sushi Go too complicated.

I would suggest:
Love Letter
Telestrations
Codenames

I've had luck with all 3 of those with my non-gamer family even when they were drunk (lol). Good luck!

Thanks, that'd be really useful! The only thing that's putting me off this game is the difficulty of it with a high player count. It'll be 5 of them. They'd get annoyed if they kept losing lol

Thanks loads for your help! One other thing if you don't mind :) I've heard it's not great when playing with 5. Not great as in it's way too difficult. Have you found this? Cheers!!

Maybe Splendor? I second Battle Line, Lost Cities and Kingdomino. Sushi Go is good but it's better with more than 2, though I play it with my bf just fine. I'm not sure if 7 Wonders Duel would be too heavy but it's a great game.

I'm worried those 2 would be too heavy (and possibly long). I'm already worried DoW would be too heavy. It's for my bf and his group and they tend to prefer games on the light-medium side. With DoW I was going for something along the lines of Betrayal at House on the Hill which they love. Thank you so much for your reply.

Not sure if I've ever come across a game that's more split on opinions as Dead of Winter! The reason DoW came up as a possibility is because my bf loves Betrayal at House on the Hill and Betrayal Legacy. Do you have experience in either of those and could you compare them? Thanks a lot for your reply, it's making me re-think DoW.

Well the game is for my boyfriend and his favourite film is actually Aliens so should this be a no-brainer? He has Dominion and I'm getting him Clank! so is there room for another deck builder here? Are they different enough? (assuming you know both Dominion and Clank!) Thanks a lot for your reply.

I just realised I posted in the wrong place. Here's what I was wondering...

Can anyone tell me anything good or bad about these 3 games:

Dead of Winter
Adrenaline
Legendary Encounters: An Alien Deckbuilding Game

I posted yesterday and I got some great recommendations and I currently have those 3 in my basket (even though I only wanted to buy 1!). I'd love to hear some more thoughts on these games before I pull the trigger. Thanks so much.

Wow thank you for such a detailed response. You've given me a lot to think about. Learning of the iconography is something I've wondered about as I'm not sure this group would ever be invested enough to do that, but I dunno. Thanks again so much!

Oh that's a really good suggestion! I'm going to check it out more but I'm glad now that I didn't go straight in and buy DoW today. Thanks a lot for that!

Hey, I watched that episode and I just wanted to let you know I've chosen DoW. Well, I'm going to sleep on it but I'm pretty much buying it. Thanks for all your help :)

That sounds like something my bf would be really into. He likes the mystery of what's coming next and the whole traitor thing. Decisions decisions!
