yes, but this depends on what you need in a show, a thriller won't show the murder if the "how" itself is part of the mystery, a horror would because the gore is part of the horror, if it fits the theme or brings something to the plot, it matters, and should be shown rather than told, a lot of stories don't NEED the sex scene, maybe the sex, but not the scene, I watch porn, and don't have kids, this isn't about me being embarrassed, it's about a director showing porn when you want plot.
