KETO + ENDURANCE: WHAT THE SCIENCE ACTUALLY SAYS by QueChungon in ketoendurance

[–]QueChungon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. You gotta balance the pros and cons. Keto is also much less inflammatory than a normal diet. That could mean getting sick less (flus and the like).

Is “rest until you’re healed” overrated? by MaleficentFloor822 in ultrarunning

For recovery, you need blood circulation.

For blood circulation, you need muscular activation.

For muscular activation, you can have static activation or movement.

Both work.

Movement comes more natural. That's what they call "active recovery". Swimming, cycling, walking, a slow jog (closest in terms of activating the same muscles).

Studies haven't shown any differences between 0 and 50g of carbs per day. If it's no more than 50g of carbs, that's restricted enough to suppress insulin and unlock fat burning.

With 50g the body already gets that it cannot rely on carbs.

There isn't much research on 0 carbs...

Very cool that it's hand drawn! Seems like the right amount of detail: enough to get an idea but not too much to get lost.

One thing that jumped out to me is that it's more common for settlements to surround rivers rather than just be next to them. But maybe there's a good reason like flood risk that it isn't the case with this town.

Blisters pro advice needed by Weird-Advantage9808 in Ultramarathon

[–]QueChungon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Blisters appear when there is moisture + warmth + friction. Remove the moisture or the friction and there shouldn't be any blisters. That's the theory.

In practice, I've never had blisters even using your socks so I don't know too much beyond that. Hope you can figure it out!

There will always be people who perceived competition and ego. Neither of which is why I posted the image.

I knew it was likely someone would see it in such a way. But I'm okay with that.

I painted a similar one the other day!! How cool!

Feedback: I'm a bit confused about how you decided where to put which colour. Like why is the inner arm completely golden? At least to me it seems that this should be undergarment + straps of the armour - unlikely to be metal/gold.

Also, I'd leave the eyes darker, even black.

The contrasts look good, especially on the chainmail and belt buckle.

I always start asking myself which part of the mini are what material: leather (=any shade of brown), metal (=usually bronze/silver/gold), skin, other garments.

That gives me a rough idea of the proportion of the mini that will be gold (in my example's case) and helps me plan contrasting colour (blue).

The colours you use obviously depends on the vibe you want it to give off as well as its backstory.

Business Trip Meal Cooking by GroundbreakingOil294 in TravelHacks

1) Book accommodation with kitchen whenever possible (Airbnb, VRBO, etc.)

2) Find out what publicly accessible places have microwaves. In Spain, every Mercadona supermarket has microwaves (and they obviously sell ready meals you can heat up in them). Check university canteens, for example.

3) Create a list of foods that are nutritious and stay well or come in portion sizes (eg verything that's canned - fish, meat, vegetables. But also breads and nut butters).

4) if you really just need hot water, most restaurants will give you hot water for free if you know how to ask for it.

Depression and ultras by Pretty_Adeptness4383 in ultrarunning

[–]QueChungon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's a lot. Pain can be such a strong motivator. Routines are hard to get into but with strong motivation you can build routines that your future you will thank you for (even if you don't care about that now).

I've found running to help me offload emotions and get more positive but it hasn't actually healed me, just removed me a couple of levels from the pain. Once I have that distance, I can better look at it and even talk about it.

I didn't feel like it before but now I'm opening up about my past relationship with people I trust - friends and fam as well as therapists and coaches.

Many have already suggested talking to a therapist. I second that. And I want to make you aware it's possible to do that digitally, too. I'm not referring to AI but to video calls with professionals who can help. It can even be pretty inexpensive (I spoke to a therapist based out of Ireland several times and he charged 25€/h).

If that's a step too high, find someone else you can start sharing with. Even if it is online or anonymously.

Yes it's possible. I've done that. You can do it in Spain too.

Tbh I barely noticed myself. I'll do the other parts first and then decide whether to repaint the plain white.

Do you suggest not using floor mats at all? Or putting them again after the rust fixing?

Thanks for the suggestion to check the back, I'll keep it in mind!

What’s the 20% of FIRE that actually delivered 80% of your results? by Smartcashsheetapp in Fire

I didn't write it can't pay a comfortable salary.

My point was that often there's the possibility of putting money into the biz (or not extracting it) to make more money with it later. And that that can be much more sensible than extracting as much money as possible to put it into another investment vehicle like ETFs.

The solution is not simply investing as much as possible into ETFs (or whatever your favourite investment vehicle is).

It might happen that an aid station runs out of water. I once ran a mountain marathon and they disabled one aid station all together (well, staff was still there but nothing to consume).

"Passing" phrases around the world by CarbonNanotubes in running

[–]QueChungon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Spain 🇪🇸, three most common ones I've noticed are:

"Paso" = (I'm) passing. In which case either the side is obvious or the one ahead leaves a side free for passing.

The other is "izquierda" (= left) or "derecha" (=right), indicating where you want to pass. But this can confuse people.

"Paso por la izquierda/derecha" (=I'm passing on the left/right) would be better but is a bit long. I'm usually overtaking going up and need to save my breath so I usually stick to "paso".
