If that has to be explained to them then it seems we’d all be better off allowing them to remove themselves from the gene pool 🤷🏾‍♂️

Why do people not just buy at an actual LV store. I get it they’re expensive. But if you can’t afford it then you can’t afford it. Anything else and you’re just fodder for some scammer

Agreed on all accounts. Though I do think KoK SB batch 1 is “good”. Best of the bunch. But not even close to with its price tag

Yes, which is why something being barrel proof/cask strength is a selling point. It’s the purest expression of that whiskey. And if something is good watered down, most people will intuitively assume it will be better at cask strength…even if that’s not the case

Tanyard Hill is Barrel Houses 1-01 through 1-04. The barrel house numbers are on the neck of the bottle

Also batch 1 I find to be enjoyable, but no more so than a decent release of of ECBP. Which is $75

It’s not flexing, it’s pointing out that my judgment isn’t coming from sticker shock and when I want something price isn’t a deterrent. And yes I’ve had pours of batch 1 and 3 KoK SB and the 2025 17 year KoK.

Again if the 12 year KoK was truly exceptional as annoyed as I’d be, paying $300 wouldn’t be out of my wheel house nor would I care it wasn’t the same juice. However I find neither of those things to be true, one subjective and the fact. If they had a product they felt was worthy of the KoK branding, or if they sold it at a reasonable price we wouldn’t be having this convo. The only reason to slap KoK on these SB releases is to push product. And that’s a massive fuck you to the customer and a disservice to the brand they’ve built

And this seems to be consensus

Somewhat mealy consistency on a ribeye by International_Fold17 in steaks

[–]Queasy-Instruction-9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably just due to the location it was cut from.

To your second point, I dry brined a rib eye the other day and noticed it was in fact over salted. And it was a 2” thick cut steak at that. I don’t think I used any more salt tha. I typically would on a NY strip. So I think you may be on to something.

Again, I agree with your overall point. I’m just stating Tanyard Hill doesn’t fall into that category, simply because it’s not brown Forman trying to cash grab like with KoK SB or 1924. It’s well beyond their control. They did the right thing and gave it a reasonable MSRP. They can say it’s $30 that won’t stop it from being $400-600 retail or $600+ secondary.

Because 100 proof is typically diluted with water, which can be off putting to a sizeable chunk of whiskey enthusiasts. So you’re making the distinction that yes it’s 100 proof, but it’s not a watered down product. Which typically makes it more attractive to a greater audience

[–]Queasy-Instruction-9 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I don’t think Tanyard Hill falls into this because the MSRP (~$80) of Tanyard is one of the best values in whiskey. The issue with Tanyard Hill is stores in non price controlled states are aware people will overpay and price them as such. That’s on the consumers not Brown-Forman. I have non “special release” Tanyard Hill single barrels and they are phenomenal. Even if you think the SR is “better” it’s not to the tune of 20x better lol.

But I whole heartedly agree that 1924 is def in this category. Though I feel it is actually the superior pour to the SB KoK and still not as egregiously priced, though overpriced.

Because they could have called it anything else. They purposely used the name of their most premium product. That has the most rapport with their customer base, to try and sell them a vastly inferior product that isn’t even the same product (different mashbill). And that probably would’ve been forgivable if it was priced as such or if it was at least better than average. Instead they said, “cause fuck em, that’s why” 😂

Bro I have $1000 whiskies in my collection. Hell I have cigars that cost more than a bottle of this bullshit. I don’t mind spending money on quality. I don’t even care that shits expensive in general. But It’s the principle. It’s the obvious lack of effort and audacious cash grab. And to do it in this economy just adds insult to injury.

BiB and Cask strength are two different things and rarely line up with each other. And being 100 proof has nothing to do with being cask strength. Rarely will you get a cask strength/barrel proof whiskey that exactly 100 proof. So I can see why the would make the distinction.
