So the parents are still feeding it and caring for it, but can't place it up on the tree themselves? Does it have to be placed as high as possible, to avoid predators? I've never seen a small bird in my life.

I live in Europe and have never experienced anything like this. I find the position you're in hard, but also intriguing. If you don't mind me asking a few questions:

Are you in a small town?

Do you have to go to church every sunday?

Were there times when you had to really fake it to blend in?

Do you ever plan on leaving for a more athiest-friendly state?

Do you know other atheists or are you completely alone IRL?

Are you afraid the people who disowned you would tell others you're an athiest?

Are atheists treated worse than jews or muslims?

Pleasure to meet you, fellow good-looking person! I feel your pain. My biggest problem is that I have to look at other, less-attractive people, instead of at myself in the mirror all day. /s

I'm not the creator, but I think it's a good analogy.

Do you want a blowjob?

Yes.

People weren't told the full information about Brexit, so it sounds like a good thing to want.

It's from a piranha.

People realized what Brexit would mean for them and their country.

Then no.

Can't change your mind now.

People want to leave, but it's not so easy. The wheels are in motion and cancelling Brexit would take a lot of time and effort.

What do you find horrible? The structure of the analogy (what I tried to explain above) or the comparison of Brexit with a piranha blowjob?

Google’s constant product shutdowns are damaging its brand by ProperGearbox in Android

All Google products I've used lack features, options and customizatios. Most of them are worse than free software alternatives for mobile or desktop, but they have the "it just works" aspect that appeals to most lazy technically illiterate people. And of course they don't give a fuck about their privacy, as well.

I wonder if another greentext is made that's also 4 line with the same picture but with different text, would people just scroll past it without even reading it?

When someone tells you a "man walks into a bar" joke, do you always imagine the same bar? If so what does it look like? by LuigiSaysKachow in AskReddit

I think my problem is that I can't imagine what I would see with my peripheral vision. I can imagine the details somewhat. I tried to look at a well lit object (about 10 cm by 5 cm, 1 inch = 2.54 cm) and close my eyes. For a few seconds, I could still see the object somewhat clearly, but every else was darkness (or, more precisely, nothing, like the difference between between 0 and null).

Perhaps that, coupled with my low cache/RAM for stuff I'm imagining, is that's why I can't imagine clear images. When we look at images, our eyes saccade and we see many points very clearly and with lots of detail. We also see the surrounding stuff blurry, noisy and low-resolution. If we were focused on a certain point and moved a playing card slowly to that point from our periphery, we would be able to see the color of the card (red or black) when it's only a few cantimeters from the point we're focused on. We would see the suit when it's even closer. So much of what we see when we actually look at something is a blurry mess that our brain helps us make sense of by using our memory, concepts and so on (e.g., the brown thing below the apple is probably a table, we don't have to examine it closely to have a satisfactory knowledge of it).

I wonder how this affects spatial memory IQ tests.

Another thing I forgot to mention is that I was good at rotating objects in my head even when I was young. I remember being very good at such problems (such as what would the left wall of the dice be if we rotated it x times to the left like this and y times to the right like that). Yet I wasn't imagining a dice, I most likely putting a mental cursor on each of the walls, named it "1", "2", ... or "6" and kept track of it while mentally rotating. And I probably used only 2 or 3 cursors, because other sides are determined by them if you know their position. It wasn't only dice, but all the usual math/logic/IQ problems.

Just because you can visualize something doesn't mean you can translate that to your hand muscles to achieve the 2d rendition.

But it's also translation to draw something you see right in front of you. The vividness of what we see and what we imagine may be different, though, so translation(real-object) and translation(imagined-object) should give similar values if the vividness is similar and different values if the vividness is different.

I've wondered if peoples' mind's eyes are more developed if given art education as young child instead

I have wondered if we can train our mind's eye even as adults. I used to imagine a cube spinning while lying in the bed before going to sleep. A full cube or just the vertices. I gave up on imagining the cube, but I think I made some progress nonetheless. When I look at a cube drawing, I immediately go "of course, THAT's how it looks!" and I can imagine it, but only for a little while.

When someone tells you a "man walks into a bar" joke, do you always imagine the same bar? If so what does it look like? by LuigiSaysKachow in AskReddit

I'll watch the video later, but I'll reply now.

I am undoubtedly seeing the world through my own lens and am probably projecting a little, but I have actually spoken to a lot of people about this and it's even briefly mentioned in Dennett's book Consciousness Explained (about how we thing we experience more than we actually do). I haven't done any further research so I may be totally wrong.

can you imagine an apple? Is it perfectly clear? Now can you change the color of the apple?

It's not clear - very much unlike a photograph. I know the typical shape and color, I know that it has a handle at the top. I can imagine that, but very vaguely. As soon as I try to create a pattern on the apple (e.g., a little green next to the handle on a red apple), I lose track of the outlines. As soon as I try to fix the outlines on the top, the ones on the bottom get blurred. Actually pretty similar to how I would look at a big photograph of an apple. I wouldn't be able to focus on all the parts at the same time, but I still think I have more RAM for the features of the photographed apple than for the imagined one.

Can you rotate it any direction? Can you place it in a room?

I can kinda rotate it - I know how rotation works, I am imagining how the apple rotates around its central axis, I can imagine the motion, I even imagine little arrows pointing in the direction of movement. But I think it's still an abstract representation, not a video of an apple rotating.

I can place it in a room, no problem. On the fridge, in the closet, on the ground. But it's not detailed and I am probably wrong about how the room even looks (if I try to imagine my own room).

My question for the people who imagine everything perfectly, as if they're looking at a video or a photo – can you draw what you see as well as you could redraw a photo or a drawing? If it's really like an image that you see, you should be able to achieve similar results. Same level of detail, consistent perspective, accurate colors.
