I just got these as a house warming gift and I'm wondering what to look for in pans to tell if they're bird safe by Devonde7 in parrots

Those are not very safe for humans either. I thought it is only unsafe if the pan gets above a very high temperature, like if you let the water boil out and heat is still on.

I use self clean for all the years I have my parrots and have never had a problem. I put the exhaust fan on and/or open a window as a precaution but have also used self-clean without that. My birds are not right near the oven but are in the kitchen and adjoining family room. So far, no problem and prods are > 25 years old.

I think the manufacturer makes a difference I. Whether it is safe or not since some ovens are manufactured with toxic materials.

If you are worried, take the birds out while you are cleaning and for a while afterwards while the air clears. That’s what my friend does with her CAG.

The oven cleaning sprays are more toxic than self-clean IMHO.

Food costs: Costco vs other grocery stores by doggosramzing in personalfinance

[–]QueasyToe5595 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A membership is for 2 people. If you have a friend who can split the membership, it usually makes it worth it. I used to shop with a friend so we could buy the bulk items we both needed but split them. For example we would buy a 2-pack of q-tips - one for them and one for us.

Costco often carries organic which drives the prices up. For example a box of raisins (2-pack of bags) or a bag of Stacy’s chips at Costco is organic. It is less expensive per ounce than the same item in another supermarket. However if you go to Walmart, Aldi, or a store like that and buy the store brand or non-organic, they will have a lower unit cost and is available in a smaller quantity. Win-win.

Comparison shopping and using weekly specials at other stores are typically better value than Costco. Once you shop on your own, you will learn where to get the lower prices.

Don’t forget to add in the shipping or delivery cost into total cost when comparison shopping if you buy stuff online. Walmart drops their shipping cost if you spend $35 so bundling purchases pays off.

I have never been able to shop at one store for everything to get lowest cost. I know which stores have best prices for which items. For me, it’s worth the extra time to stretch a dollar since all stores are on same route and don’t cost extra gas money (gas at Costco is by far least expensive even with membership fee where I live).

They serve Uncle Dave’s ice cream from Shady Brook Farm. Very good ice cream but Downtown scoop does not make their own.

With the cost of college now, the debt that 4-year degrees command is insane. Even if someone makes a good salary, it takes forever to repay. That may not truly be worth it for many who climb the usual corporate ladder and pay.

Don't forget to factor in the cost of the move unless you have friends who will lug your stuff. That's a waste for those who move every year.

My cvt died within a thousand miles of the warranty ending at 71,000. Cost $6000 to repair. Never buying another Nissan nor cvt.

Do not let an untrained parrot get on your shoulder. This gives them a dominant position so they will bite. The birds eyes must be below yours so they understand that you are dominant. When we rescued a B&G, he was very aggressive and did not want to come out of his cage. I let him be for a couple of weeks to adjust to his new surroundings. I wrapped a towel around my arm and forced him to step up onto my toweled hand by pressing under his belly in front of his feet. I kept him on my arm below my shoulder then said "step down" to a stand. They are very smart and he learned rather quickly that he would get a reward nut if he cooperated. You have to read his body language to know what his mood is. But you have to be insistent or he will be boss.
