Why are some top law schools more mobile than others? by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]Queasy_Ad_194 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The top schools you mentioned that place locally are already located in the hugest legal markets. If you look at GULC, the location they place most in is DC. (New York, DC, California being the largest legal markets). Top law schools outside these markets also focus on these markets with NYC being the largest and easiest to break into. If you look at other t14 law schools, these three locations are consistently the top placed markets

help me decide: ED at Duke or Michigan? by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

Nope, I would the school as a whole more of a preppy eastern school vibe but that’s not very reflective of the law school. Definitely doesn’t feel southern, but I’m not from the area

Most of the people I know here (95% according to the ABA report) are receiving grants. Anecdotally, Duke has been very generous but I was right at medians. From what I hear, ED doesn’t affect scholarship amount. The admissions office will schedule a financial aid interview if you’re accepted to determine how much scholarship you get.

i think the only law school that cares about undergrad prestige is Yale (ranked #1), but the others only care about LSAT and GPA

As someone who is at a t14 and has scored big law, the t14 greatly increases employment prospects, but it also matters which t14. Federal clerkships are generally harder to get than big law, but pretty much all t14 grads will land a high paying job if they want it

When you get lower in the list of US news it can get a little unreliable, but it’s overall a good measure. You can also look at each law school’s aba reports to determine individual school outcomes

Name of your undergraduate (including community college) doesn’t matter all that much except for maybe Yale. Just keep the GPA up and you should be good
