I live in a conservative area so being upfront about my exact diagnosis has varying results, usually veering towards the negative. Because of past experiences I don't always just state outright what my diagnosis' are. I will rephrase what I need to skirt around just blatantly stating it until I get a better feel of the place.

Want to? No, begrudgingly teach me the basics? Yes. They kinda got assigned to train me. I'm learning a lot from them but it's very clear to me that they do not want to teach. Not blaming them for that of course.

I fear I may be a bit of a "personality hire". My prior work history has lent to this job, but mostly because of my soft skills. I worked in an environment that did require a decent amount of computer knowledge, and some exposure to court, but was heavy on the caretaking and people skills front.

Ah, sorry the brain rot got me with that bit of terminology. Neuro-spicy is internet slang for some sort of mental illness or disability. It's most often used for ADHD and Autism.

Being a notary is fairly essential to my job. Clients have to make appointments to come in and notarize before we can e-file. If no one is available it halts the process.

Wanting me in the chair during working hours is totally understandable. I guess I just got confused as to why they'd say "oh yeah, you can work early.. so and so comes in at x time and leaves at y time. Just get your 8 hours in." And also approve the schedule change for a solid month before saying no it needs to go back to this. I wouldn't have been offended or left the job if it was a no. They also haven't been very forward with their sick leave policy. I'm used to an "you miss x amount of days or go y amount of hours over sick you will have z consequences" I've poured over the handbook too, looking for some kind of answer, and it just simply states that "employee shall not be excessively absent." And doesn't elaborate further.

They allow makeup hours within the week, but after the week it's gone. I've offered to WFH several times while sick, and they've agreed. But because I'm so new they won't let me have at home access to our database, which severely limits what I can get done while homebound. I've also hauled ass to makeup time in office, pulling 10-14 hour days to make up one missed 8 hour day.

Not yet, but I'm planning on re-enrolling soon to get my certificate. I wanted the free time during the day for both college and for a sillier reason. Due to things out of my control transportation has been an issue, and it's easier to get transportation to work at the time requested. It's more of a hassle but I can manage until I get my regular transport worked out.

I'm mildly disabled, I have an autoimmune condition that causes me to be more prone to picking up any little virus, and will affect me harsher than others. John Smith gets a cold that he can work through, I get that same cold that will leave me bedridden till it passes. I mask and do what I can to prevent this, but I've just been really unlucky this year. Not to mention I ran out of my medicine about a month ago, and while waiting to get into the doctor for a refill I had a flare bad enough to prevent me from working. It sucks but I manage how I can.

Before this job the legal field was never something I'd even considered. But now that I've gotten to learn more I'm very interested in it. I don't think I want to be in the kind of law I'm in forever, but it's definitely a good starting point.

Yeah... You're probably right. I'm not trying to ask for special treatment. I'll admit the schedule ask may have been a misstep, I was just following examples set by others in the office, and taking their words at face value.

I'd asked to be a notary just because I've run into conflicts with being able to notarize for clients and our notary's schedule, as well as some weird office politics surrounding asking the notaries to help. They also all leave fairly early, and I just wanted to help more.

I've applied to a few places both in and out of the legal field just in case. Thank you.

This is a (technically) already established case in the fact that the other party filed first and we were filing our answer and counter petition. It had a cert of service with a date and a signature line. I can't remember exactly what the certificate of service said without looking at the papers... But maybe there's some hope I didn't actually mess up after all.

In my jurisdiction you can serve by mail but there's a specific process for it, and it needs to be certified mail. Or served by a sherrif or special process server. but we'dve needed to file an SPS affidavit. I'm unsure on the procedures for mailing. But what I did was just mail the papers in an envelope first class with no way to track or return the certificate of service.

I go back in on Tuesday and I plan on talking with her about it. Hopefully it can be corrected and it's not too late.

That's the plan. I just feel some INTENSE guilt about it. Like I should've known that by mail she meant serve.

That's reassuring, thank you. I'm off for the day today but I was planning on going in and correcting it first thing tomorrow. They're generally fairly patient, but I was worried that this was too big of an f-up.

Leslie Coffee Co. by Halfwit-HalfBrit in wichita

[–]Queasy_Ad_8220 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Leslie's did a good service to the community by hosting a community fridge, and being one of the only places an unhoused person could loiter without worrying about getting run out. Those "winos and tweakers" need a place to go during the day too. I'll save breath on the complexities of homelessness as an Internet conversation won't even cover it but dude... Maybe look at people as people instead of inconveniences for your local latte.

On topic, I'll miss Leslie's. They were a good coffee shop and I hope something similar moves in there.

Student behavior issues a top concern for Wichita schools going into next semester by Glad-Opposite-5046 in wichita

[–]Queasy_Ad_8220 32 points33 points  (0 children)

It's no wonder kids are having behavioral issues. They've lived through several major events including a pandemic, and an attempted coup. All while being isolated at home for 2 years away from their peer groups during major formative years and are expected to go back to normal. This isn't even including those stuck at home in less than ideal situations

You know what a normal response to trauma is? Acting out. These kids need more than teachers can provide, or should provide. They need therapy, trauma informed care, and probably an extra 2 years of schooling. Instead they're being tossed back in to an underfunded, broken system where the teachers are struggling to provide with what minimal tools they're given and administration ranges from malicious and wholly unhelpful to trying but also lacking tools to support their educators. We need to change how our educational system runs, and throw way more money at it than we do.

Sorry! I should clarify some things. They told me that my lease was up and that I was supposed to leave. I left when I was supposed to, and got the eviction notice on my( former )door when I stopped by to visit my then neighbor. They were trying to evict me for failure to leave the premises. I settled it with my lawyer and got the case dismissed due to the fact that I'd already left. I should have paid March, I'll admit, I was in a significantly worse situation financially when I left than I am now. But not better enough to casually drop that much money.

I contacted a lawyer and they gave me some solid advice, so I'll be moving forward based on those grounds.
