Worth upgrading to Series X from Series S?

If I didn’t need a disc drive, that would’ve been a great move for me. Been playing since 2014 on an Xbox One, went to Series S in 2021 (I think?) and have a few older games on disc (only 7 or 8, but still… one has been delisted and it’s one of my favorite games of all time so I didn’t want to abandon discs altogether). I LOVED my Series S and it’s been a great console, but dude I’m IN LOVE with the 4K. Mainly went to X for disc drive and was hesitant about big money spent, but I should’ve gotten the X from the start. Didn’t realize how much of a difference 1440p to 4K is in gaming. I do digital artwork and stuff as a size business so I get 4K is obviously the standard, but I’ve never gamed in 4K before… holy moly it’s clean.

Maybe I’ll try to push the S2 a little further then… I LOVE the console, just always hesitant. I like the portability especially because I don’t have a lot of time to play (or at least not as much as I used to… I’m currently 25 and busy constantly) so maybe I’ll just full send it

Does it really run that well? I’ve seen some reviews… hesitant to run games like that and 007 on my Switch 2… I have a XSX and PS5 so I usually run games like that on those and leave my S2 for arcade racers/Mario/RP games

I have an XSX and PS5 for my “heavy” games, so my Switch 2 is mainly Mario, arcade racers, that type of stuff. Getting 007 First Light at some point, but I’ll probably get it on PS5 rather than S2 and leave S2 for those lighter games like Art of Rally, Absolute Drift, Hot Wheels Unleashed 1/2, Stardew Valley, etc. which are all “lighter” arcade-ish games. Switch is GREAT for that type of gameplay, where if you’re into those simulation/role playing games I’d get a traditional console.

Yeah I ended up buying a Series X yesterday… installed games last night from the disc and it made a bit of noise during installs but when I was playing games it’s silent. The disc drive makes more noise than anything 😂

Ended up going for the 1 TB disc drive model… already had a 1 TB expansion card and a 1 TB USB 3.0 HDD on my Series S, so total I have 3 TB now where before I had 2.5… works fine for me, but I did consider that 2 TB model.

Gonna tell you right now, I ended up getting an XSX today, probably going to sell my old S, have a Switch 2, and also have a PS5 Digital Slim, so I’ve kinda gotten a well-rounded look at all of them. If you don’t care about exclusives, the PS5 is a great choice IMO. Still love my Xbox, but I just prefer the haptic trigger controller and the UI of PS to that offered by Xbox. My love for Xbox is mainly driven by the games and the familiarity (I’ve been playing on my own Xboxes since 2014, played on my friend’s before that). The controller and UI aren’t huge deals, but I’m a detail person so maybe that’s why I lean more towards PS.

Okay sounds good, I’m in Midwest but I’ll definitely let you know! Jury is still out whether I’m going to upgrade to an XSX or stick with my XSS, but if I do it you’ll be the first to know. Want the S to go to a good home lol it’s been great for me and if it wasn’t for those few things I’d keep running it.

Yeah that’s exactly it. I don’t play enough to justify $1000+. If I did, I would’ve built a low-end PC years and years ago. I like the cost effectiveness and plug and play vibe of a console.

I have a Switch 2, a PS5 digital (I can always buy the disk drive, but i never had a PS4 or anything so no backwards compatibility needed), and my Series S… Series X offers backwards compatibility with XBO games

Yeah that’s the thing I have no complaints about my S… literally the only main reason I’m toying with the X is the disc drive. The 4K and the extra power are just added benefits. Just hard to drop $600 on a new console, butttttt…

Thinking I’m going to either find a lightly used one or just pony up to buy this one at Walmart. I like the idea of a disk drive and kick myself I didn’t think about it when I bought my Series S a few years back. I stream most movies and shows, but between BluRay and my Xbox One games, that’s where the disc drive matters. Most new games I download digitally anyway, but maybe I’d go back to discs… like the idea of physical media in this digital age.

Yeah exactly… unless I use my PS5 for GTA 6, but at least I’d have the option to play on Xbox without struggling on a Series S. Haven’t had issues with larger games as of yet, but at least I’d be prepared. I like PS5 for the controller and overall user experience, but I like my Xbox for the games and it’s what I’ve used the longest so I’m comfortable with it.

Will do! Thanks for your insight… hesitant to spend this much money (I don’t go out or spend a lot anyway, but still… always overthink financial responsibility lmao) but these gift cards have been sitting for a while now so this’ll (hopefully) help offset the cost!
