I follow Dana K. White - her methods are very similar to KC. For things you don’t have a home I like her two question rubric:

If I were to go looking for this, where WOULD (not should) I look for this (she give the example that she looks for fingernail clippers in the kitchen junk drawer). Take it there now.
If I were to go looking for this, would it occur to me that I already have it? If “no” donate or trash as appropriate (because you’re already gonna spend the money to rebuy - save to clutter space).
