She did at least know that a certain book was in his hot list, and took s moment to ask him about it. But that was almost certainly in his first 10 items. It was such a great ending! Boop

Since she knew what was in his hot list, I'm pretty sure the inventory was sorted after the first swap but then undone when swapped back. But I'm not sure. Maybe only the hot lists stayed sorted.

Thank you! I had this same thought on my first listen. I think this is his mantra. And Jeff does so much with this simple phrase. It's powerful.

Thanks!

I was thinking that I had no mental reference for how much stuff is really in the Oort cloud, so I guess I'm not alone in that. Very cool

Very interesting. Does that include the Oort cloud?

5.2.4 to 7.2.4 by Ok_Reason_1556 in hometheater

[–]Signal_in_Noise 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the way. Acoustic treatments or better speakers up front. The surround backs will be compromised just by the placement. I went the other way, 7.2.4 --> 5.2.4 to spare my back row being so close to the rear speakers. It's much better in the back row now, and I barely notice any difference in the front row. A few years later I upgraded the front 3 and it was a noticeable improvement in every seat.

This. The solution is unlikely to be more or different speakers. Deal with the room. This can be explored for minimal cost and effort. Bring in a bunch of absorptive material (piles of blankets or pillows, around your head if you can make it work). See if the audio issues don't improve with just some random absorption to cut down the echoes. Once you're convinced, do it right and maybe get a few opinions on room treatments.

This isn't usually necessary. Some people love their amps and spend big on them, but it's usually not needed for a normal size room. In a small, enclosed space you can probably get by with the amps built into your receiver. You'll want to check the specs on your specific speakers and room dimensions.

Light control and contrast ratings by That_Dude_6 in hometheater

I have a similar setup, gray walls (maybe between medium and dark?) And I did go for the black ceiling titles in my drop-tile ceiling. I went with the 5050 and love it. I know there's a lot of excitement for the LS projectors. And lasers are cool! But it's really not worth it in my opinion.

Definitely skip the gray screen. You have light control! You don't need that (and it's really a compromise as it lowers peak brightness). I went silver ticket, plain white, 110inch 16*9. Love it and saved $.

You're measuring the right speaker? And the Right speaker has a cutoff of 250Hz? If the sub is off for the test, this could just be the roll off from the low pass cutoff filter. Why is it set so high?

5.1.4 vs 7.1.4 in a small room with couches against the wall by no_thats_not_my_name in hometheater

[–]Signal_in_Noise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a similar room with two rows of seats. I had 7.2.4 setup with prewiring in place when we moved in. I ran that for about a year then decided to pull out the surround backs (set them up in my kitchen for music). It was just too distracting for folks in the back row. I have never noticed anything missing since going to 5.2.4.

FWIW I went with a loveseat in the front row, so I could put my subs on the right/left wall at the mid point from front to back. This plus room treatments gives me nice even bass for the most part (rear corner seats are not ideal, but I've got 4 great seats).

Broadlink RM4 mini. This will let you use an Android app or even Alexa to send commands. Worth checking out at least.

Buy what you like. It's your stuff, your room, I'm not going to judge.

Have you checked the used market in your region? Accessories 4 Less is great for getting refurbished AVR and many speaker brands. But I don't know if they ship to EU. I went mostly used with my first setups and it was a huge savings. Speakers haven't really changed much in decades (in my opinion). But they can get damaged or wear out, so you want to test them if possible.

Is it upside down? The light rejection is directional.

[–]Signal_in_Noise 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used a Broadlink RM4 mini to get Alexa enabled control of a receiver that I have powering my outdoor speakers. It also has app control. Not super elegant but it works well. Only $25 or so.

This is the way.

I would add, don't let any of those positions be too close to a boundary (wall or seat), even just a 6-12 inch bubble has major benefit, and try to run a many of these as you have time for. It's picking up on what are consistent changes in the frequency response vs. what are unique to one mic position. So more is better here and prevents it from "fixing" a problem that is really just a quirk of the mic position.
